I adore novas, I did once have a shell when I was a teenager, but sadly had to be scrapped as I had nowhere to put it and in 2002 novas weren't hard to get. I've kicked myself for 20 years. When the time comes.

i used to have an RS turbo with a 2.1 zetec and cosworth management back in the day that was around 300 bhp it was funny but quite scary at times, i found the power pretty much unusable for the most part unless you were going in a straight line already rolling lol wish i still had her though

Love this! I still like seeing people's faces when they go in the Nova for the first time. It's definitely the wild, erratic beast of the fleet! Such good fun and I feel like there should always be one in the garage!

I had a Nova 1.2 "Sting" back in around 2002 and even that was pretty fun due to the low weight. It had the bodykit and bolstered seats from factory and looked good even though it was "warm" rather than a hot hatch. When we came to advertise it Dad said he had so many calls we could have sold it 20 times. 😄

Madness isnt it? I remember them being nearly out of MOT and perhaps needing a little bit of work and being forsale for £50 to £100. Back then any car like this was £100 tops with no test.
@flatootАй бұрын
@@DanielBall absolutely. I went through a lot of field cars between 14-17 years old. When you could buy whole running cars for 0-£50 ideally, it wasn't cost effective to fix them when they died. It's nothing like that now

Nice video Dan. Sends us all on our own trip back down nova memory lane. The first nova I had was a mk1 td. I loved the engine but not the car. My love of novas started with a mk2 non turbo diesel. But the engine sucked. It was my dad's friend's old car and he always referred to it as "the blue flash" because it was so painfully slow 😂 I got pretty lucky and found a mk2 metallic black 1.5td sx £500 for my first car. It didn't last very long. The final straw was the engine trying to fall out as I was running my girlfriend to work one day. The bolts in the drivers engine mounting snapped off, in the engine. This video reminded me I saw your ebay ad for the diesel nova and had been very tempted since my first car was a td sx. Yours mightve been the only other td sx I ever seen from memory
@DanielBallАй бұрын
Thanks pal. Yeah the td were always rare and the SX was even rarer. There was a few about but not many at all. My engine mount broke twice, I used a 3 bolt astra mount in the end. Much stronger
@flatootАй бұрын
@DanielBall that's awesome. I never realised their potential when I was young but they were surprisingly good standard.
@DanielBallАй бұрын
@flatoot yeah they are very good standard. One of the first semi hot hatch diesels too.
@flatootАй бұрын
@@DanielBall yeah that's probably very true indeed. I had a 1.4sr at the time but the insurance too much for my first car. And the diesels were Sr performance for cheaper everything else, which felt like cheating the system at the time 😂 Is your white diesel nova still around?

I've loved the Nova since my mum got her 87 E plate Steel Grey Antibes in 1990 when I was 7. Had a rotten GSi of my own in 2004, hidden on a street away from my house as I wasn't allowed one, and parked my 1.4 Orion outside my folks place. Sold it few months later to a mate that killed it 😐 passed up a clean version of my silver gsi in late 04 as I had a 205gti needing work at the time with the escort also. if i had bought it (£1500) i'm sure i would still have had it 🥲 had a blue Antibes since 2017, internet folks have talked me out of modding it, so its completely stock 🙄 keep the vids coming man, your red one took that crash quite well and the white sx was rapid 😂

Found myself with a daft grin on my face while watching this! I love my Vauxhalls. Never had an engine swapped one but I love the thought of a C20LET or Z20LET in a Nova or Corsa. Where are you based? I think I detect a Derby/Nottingham accent.

Glad you enjoyed. I would seriously recommend one. Sadly they are getting very expensive these days. You can still find a good deal if you don't mind putting a bit of work in though. Originally from Lincoln, now Nottinghamshire 😊.

@@DanielBall yes I've noticed prices getting a bit silly for anything of that era really. I think it's the market showing that we're not bothered about cars full of screens and electric motors. What we want is something simple and mechanical to get our thrills from. I used to have a MK4 SRi turbo Astra which someone hit and wrote off, I'd have another one of those in a heartbeat. I'd love a project car but haven't the time at the moment... one day!
