I’m a professional chiptuner with a dyno and I also own a 718 GT4. On those car you NEED to send air on the side scoops. It’s where the intake is. Because the air sent by the front fans can’t reach the side scoops.

@@carswithluke HP ratings are for the engine not at the real wheel inclusive of drivetrain loss which is on average 15% per several studies like motortrend. This means that at 395 your car is actually significantly more powerful than Porsche advertised as with the car that rated 380. This is pretty basic stuff. Other than that good content.

@hikingjoe4752
@hikingjoe4752 4 жыл бұрын

@jjaisli
@jjaisli 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. 200+ comments and this is the only one I’ve seen that mentions the bleeding obvious. Manufacturers measure horsepower at the crank. Dyno testing the car will measure horsepower at the wheel. Most cars suffer 15 to 20% parasitic drivetrain losses. Are we in the twilight zone here?
@bighitjumper
@bighitjumper 4 жыл бұрын
no, "p-rad" which is "whp" is about 247kw in the video, which is about 335hp p-rad. In the end it shows 395 hp "p-mot" which is like "break-hp". Of course the dynos measure wheel horse power, but by knowing the spinning masses and the friction of the dyno and the time it takes to slow down the dyno with pressed clutch you can calculate (or rather the dyno does it for you) the friction of the power train of the car. and by that the power which is lost in friction. By calculating that backwards you also know the engine power.

Been looking for this comment. Are we missing something?
@jjaisli
@jjaisli 4 жыл бұрын
bighitjumper That makes more sense but the thing is, they really DON’T know. They’re making educated guesses at the numbers. If you’re getting readings on a Dyno, it’s fine to compare Whp with the same model car under similar conditions on the same equipment. But trying to determine whether a car matches factory power ratings and talking about mileage and fuel octane is just speculation. Manufacturers measure output by their own standards. Usually engine ratings are based on an overall average controlled minimum under specific conditions. And usually engines will vary a bit, especially during the length of production run.

Changing the rear silencer isn’t going negatively affect the long term trims to fuelling and ignition in the Powertrain ECU. A reduction in back pressure would help liberate more power due to a reduction in pumping loses, although that can inevitably mean a reduction in torque lower down, but usually only if the engine relies heavily on back pressure (not normally the case on high performance and large capacity engines). Furthermore, the video isn’t particularly clear, but I think he’s suggesting that the car in general is down on the figures, but his car is up on the other standard car they’ve tested.

@opieg7333
@opieg7333 4 жыл бұрын
The air is for cooling and the radiators are up front. Blowing air at the intake doesn't add power per se, unless significantly colder than the room temperature. If the radiators do not get airflow while an engine is running at higher rpms, they do not work and the engine heats up, which is bad for power and longevity. It may seem counter intuitive, but blowing air at an engine intake doesn't force air into the engine since nothing is capturing the air to increase pressure.

Add 10% ethanol and your problem with poor fuel will go away. Adds octane back you are lacking and reduces combustion temps ensuring every degree of ignition timing being pulled by standard ecu returns. Also car can continue to make power depending on your dyno room on pull 3 and 4 as ecu adapts vs temperature... very dyno room specific.

Well yes, it will read less than what Porsche says the PS is. PS is measured at the engine crank. Its the engine power output only. The dyno will measure the power at the wheels which measures the engine output minus the mechanical losses. Plus tyres can play an affect the results on a dyno and all dynos measure differently, they are calibrated within a tolerance.

I would say don’t bother too much with the initial dyno number, because it’s irrelevant in the sense that 400hp on one dyno is different from 400hp on another dyno. Heck, humidity and temperature will alter the dyno numbers. I would say that dyno is only a tool of comparison. Like before and after a bolt on. Heck, my car makes close to 700hp stock on renntech’s dyno and that means nothing to me. Butt dyno are more relevant :)
