Watch Richard Hammond's Workshop in the UK: bit.ly/Hammond-H1-YT
It has been over 6 years since Richard Hammond had a massive crash in the Rimac Concept One hypercar. He managed to escape with just a busted leg, but the car went up in flames soon after the crash so it could have been much more serious. Rimac have decided to give Richard a second chance, throwing him the keys to the brand new Rimac Nevera - the successor to the Concept One. Fingers and toes crossed for this test dive going smoothly...

Doesn't matter what it was built from. It did its job and protected the occupants. Cars are replaceable, people aren't. This is why we have what we have as we saw a crashed one in the dealership, enquired about what happened to it, then purchased one. For clarity, its not a Rimac but the principle is the same.

I like how simply Richard promotes Rimac, like a give back. And thanks to Rimac for giving him a chance. But in my opinion Rimac is lucky that Richard drove their car twice. I could say that that crash was a big publicity for Rimac, I mean Richard admitting that the door opened just fine after three flips is testimony of great engineering, car crashes are inevitable, safety level during those crashes is what matters most. Thanks for both Rimac and Richard for this video
@jerkopatrik
@jerkopatrik 4 ай бұрын
My exact thoughts, I always thought that crash had a positive impact on Rimac’s reputation. The fact that Hammond survived THAT crash in their car was a true testimony to the company’s engineering feats, where it would show not just on paper and in marketing material but also in a very real situation. And now here they are, mass producing an 1800 horsepower hypercar.
@giveitup4jony
@giveitup4jony 4 ай бұрын
Hearing Hammond say "the door opened" has the same weight in that sentence as when Clarkson said "the chicken was still warm". They hold their own respective cars in the highest regards because of the way each of their vehicles gave them the ability to have a better outlook in their situations than what was originally given and i think thats just absolutely amazing in it of itself

Same here. It floored me how a car could survive a 100+ ft (30+ meter drop) off a mountain, and the door still worked. That is a testament to the high quality engineering standards at Rimac. :) If this was a Tesla Model S Plaid, Ford Mustang or Dodge Challenger, Hammond would not be able to tell his story today, and probably wouldn't be living. I teared up also when hearing this. Guys cry also, and there is nothing wrong with that.

So great that Rimac allowed Hammond back behind the wheel again. What an amazing car! And kudos to Richard Hammond for driving it again too. I've just read his book about the first major crash he had in the jet dragster and it brought me to tears. He's one brave man.

First he was reunited with the Vampire Dragster and now he's back with Rimac. Both of these cars gave me huge anxious and worried about your safety as I've grown up watching you and to me you are a LEGEND, love your work Richard.

Something about this segment really hit the nail on the head with what I imagine we all really want to see more of, it somehow felt like I was watching Top Gear, more so than any Grand Tour episode, nothing too over the top.

I'm so happy for you, Richard, getting back behind the wheel of an ultra fast Rimac! That was heart-warmingly honest 😊 We're all grateful for the rigid monocoque making sure your venture down the side of the Alps is now a legend instead of a tragedy. Great also to see Rimac being a success.

man, I had goosebumps seeing the clip of the crash.. still getting goosebumps just thinking about the crash.. happy to hear how Hammond praises Rimac for everything they have put into their cars to ensure the safety of the occupants.. Hammond putting it as owing his life to the them as he was able to escape the crash without any serious injuries..

Rimac earned my respect with the sense of humor afterwards. In another model they included a fire extinguisher in a leather holder that said "use in case of hill climb". 😂

last time i saw rimac on an auto event, they had some black duct tape on the front end and it had a lot of tiny scratches on the side and that in itself made the car so much cooler to look at. Like, this car was driven unlike a lot of concepts and sport cars that looked insanely clean and detailed, the Rimac looked as if it was driven there and It was amazing XD

I remember seeing the crash first time. my first reaction watching that footage was wow, he's coming in too fast and I could see it in his face lol. it's the one on the left, push it push it, normally when I drive I'm yelling/telling people to push the one on the right! but that worked out overall, we still have the Richard and the Rimac! it's going well so that's a double win :) keep bringing it!

That’s wild that the door could open after such a violent roll over. I’ve often wondered with the small boutique hypercar manufacturers if safety can possibly match that of a large company with high production numbers. At least as far as Rimac is concerned those worries have been put to rest.
