@@hankmoody5514 Yes, one hour before drinking is the protocol. It took me 14 months to reach extinction, but everyone is different. Some people respond much faster. The book by Roy Eskapa, ",The Cure for Alcoholism ", explains the Sinclair Method and should answer any questions you may have.

After day two of naltrexone I threw up my $20 breakfast. So not only do I still have an alcohol problem, now I have stomach problems. See this is the problem with modern “scientifically supported” treatments. Sure psilocybin treatment is anecdotal but I don’t end up with more problems afterwards.

Good for you for giving it a try, but it doesn't work for everyone. That said, it is not an instant fix. It takes time to change patterns, and we also recommend combining it with counseling, for the best results. Wishing you success in drinking less, whichever method works best for you.

In my experience, with TSM, people who are drinking to add pleasure and relief from stress will find success with no truck zone. But people who are using alcohol because of wanting to escape from the ruminating thoughts and panic and nervous system dysfunction caused by TRAUMA need baclofen. So technically, the alcohol still “works” for people who are using the alcohol to regulate their nervous systems, and to escape the rumination and panic of trauma. It’s very frustrating for me to listen to interviews with doctors who are supposed to be specialist in addiction and they don’t bring up the idea of why people are drinking. They just talk about chemistry and how to fix biology. The why a person is drinking is so important.

Apologies for the late reply, and hope your family member is doing better. Naltrexone alone won't necessarily solve the problem, it works best combined with counseling. Definitely discuss with your doctor, and we wish your family all success.

If your family member has a history of trauma, have them try BACLOFEN A reason that people MAY “drink through” the pleasure receptor blocking effects of naltrexone is very often because they can still use alcohol to escape trauma. Does your loved one have a history of trauma? Did their drinking start getting heavy after that trauma?

I will write it one more time. A huge reason that people can drink “through“ the naltrexone because they are not drinking because it’s adding pleasure to their life. They are drinking to escape the after effects of trauma. Ask yourself if your loved one has had significant trauma in their life. Also ask if they started drinking after That trauma happened. Or if they have a history of childhood trauma. If the case is that they do, have them try. BACLOFEN

Also, these comments are kind of saying that it’s the fault of the person for developing an alcohol or substance abuse disorder, because they reacting to trauma. If you’re loved one has trauma, especially complex trauma, it’s an entire syndrome that affects their entire nervous system.

Of course, everyone is different, and you should definitely talk with your doctor. (And like every method for dealing with alcohol issues, naltrexone doesn't work for everyone.) We're so sorry to hear you got sick! Are you working with a physician for your naltrexone? Nausea is a side effect for some people early on. However, many people can build up a tolerance to it over time and overcome the nausea. Often doctors will have people start at a small dose and allow them to work up to a higher dose. Hope that helps!
