This episode could also explain why Timmy tends to only makes selfish wishes for himself. Whenever he tries to be selfless it backfires and makes things much worse.

Meanwhile everyone was mad at him bc it was essentially Opposite Day where all his good deeds somehow ended up being making things go wrong for those around him (like his parents who got mad bc he made the lawn look beautiful, and they got into a “worst lawn competition” without ever telling him) And the world actively said to the kid wishing he wasn’t alive “everyone’s lives would be much better if you didn’t exist” That’s one of Jorgan’s lines from the show, but the message was “if you feel unappreciated and that the world would be better off without you, you’re probably right”

I always hated the lesson of this episode. The problem wasn't that Timmy didn't got praise, is that he got ATTACKED by his peers for his good actions. If the episode started differently, with the characters being indiferent to Timmy and him getting angry over it, then it would make sense

I remember that episode. Jorgen explained that Timmy should not do Good Deeds to get praised, he should do good deeds because it's the right thing to do. Also Jorgen did say that when Timmy didn't wish himself back to existence with his wand, thinking about others instead of himself, gave it back and accepting his fate is a good deed of thinking of others than himself which earn Timmy a wish to wish he never said his wish which got a scare from Jorgen who said he was joking.

That's still kind of a shitty moral of the story as well as an aweful way to give such a lesson. A good deed is a good deed, wether it was made out of selfish desire or not. No action is truly selfless, and simply wanting praise, especially at his age, isn't horrible and selfish, it's arguably quite an understandable thing to want, especially from someone like Timmy who is abused and neglected at just about every turn. Is he a little shit? Yeah, he's a kid. Does he fuck up? Yeah, he's a kid given access to godlike powers, nobody that you with that little understanding of the world should have access to that kind of power. Hell, arguably nobody ever should have access to that kind of power at all. Does that mean he deserves all the shit he has to put up with? I'd say the reason he is a little shit is *because* he's constantly shat on, so I'd argue no. And if the worst thing he does for that day is doing good deeds in hopes of recieving praise, I say give the kid praise. Do it right and it will make him want to do more good deeds. And from there you can also teach him that good deeds are something one should just do in general, with or without praise, because they are good deeds. Reinforcing a behaviour and developing it from there is always more effective than punishing a behaviour when it's not perfect. I remember this show having both hits and misses, but it missed fucking hard with this episode.

This episode really helped explain why Timmy doesn't just do things for others. At the end of the day, he knows that he is unwanted, and his efforts mean nothing to anyone but himself. It was oddly eye opening for me as a kid. I started to understand that sometimes, you're not gonna matter to other people, and you gotta look out for yourself. Still, sending the message that they're better off without Timmy was a bad call, and I remember that didn't sit well with me at all. I'm glad the first half was what stuck with me more than the second half after Timmy makes the wish.

Jorgan von strangle is my favorite cartoon character ever. He is the shining example of doing what's right in written form only. He has more power than any other character and if he ever decided to be evil there would be nothing to be done about it. The power hour where Calamitous took over his body is amazing because it reminds you that for all of Crocker's schemes to get a fairy, the only thing anyone needs to be powerful is Jorgan himself. At the end of the power hour a bomb explodes in retroville and he shrinks it in the palm of his hand because he can. Thank god he is lawful.

I remember when this episode came out. Shit was rough to watch. I had depression for the bulk of my childhood years, and just seeing Dimsdale without Timmy in it really fueled my thoughts of self termination. Thankfully, I finished the episode one time, and found comfort in Timmy's complacency. He saw what was the best thing ever, where everyone had happier lives without him in it. Everything was perfect, and he just wasn't there. But Timmy still chose to go back to existing. Not because he wanted to see everyone suffer, but because his happiness matters too. Timmy put himself first, and while he sacrificed everyone else's happiness, it still was ok. Timmy finding comfort in the ok surprisingly helped me keep going, and I like to think it did the same for other kids too

Not just the episode, but the whole show. When you look over everything, how neglectful/abusive his parents and babysitter are. Mr crocker gives students all F's for no reason. He even wished to be 10 yo for eternity because when he ages his fairies will disappear. Without his fairies, he has nothing to lose anymore. The fairies being there have the sole purpose of helping him get through this horrible treatment and existential crisis. The shower is a lot darker than people think. It represents what it's like to be neglected, abused, and set for failure since early childhood. Even feeling suicidal. It all flies over your head, especially as a child watching cartoons. His suffering is portrayed as a silly fun and games thing.

But it poses an interesting question. Does anybody know what the overall message of the episode was, there’s gotta be some sort of good side to it for Timmy right?

I remember watching this episode and crying as a child. I was told by my bullie down the street every day since I was 6 that the world would be better off with out me and that I didn't deserve to live.i felt Timmy here and I understood the real message of the episode.it doesn't matter if you are great or ordinary, what is important is that you are alive and that gives you some basic rights if you can't meet the expectation off everyone else that's fine at least Timmy was trying in the beginning and Timmy never gives up on trying. Never give up on trying that's the secret to life.

I'm sorry you went through that with your bully. They were clearly projecting their feelings onto you because they sound awful. But I love your message here and I agree. We can feel beat down sometimes and life isn't fair enough to some of us, but if we keep fighting, we can live to see ourselves make something better out of it. Stay strong, and have a great day! 🧡

Tbh as a kid I also watched a cartoon where Gumball gets replaced by Bobbert (a robot) and basically his family thinks hes a better son than him. Gumball then slept in their backyard cuz they locked him out and he cried. Idk but when I was 8 I cried at that

I saw this as a kid. It was really strange. I remember agreeing with Timmy when he gave the wand back after he started changing everything back. It definitely makes you wonder if Timmy should even be alive if everyone else is happier without him. Of course it's unrealistic but remembering this episode now I can see that they unintentionally set up a very bad example

Gonna be honest after looking through the comments this episode is garbage and should have never aired. My biggest question is “if Chester life was “better” then how did he obtain fairies?” A god child only gets fairies when their life is absolute garbage and they can’t take it anymore. Yes Chester has always been poor but he was happy with his life and loved his father, they had a good relationship. Aj graduating and Timmy’s non existentence is actually a detriment to Chester. If no one else this is the one person who actually needed Timmy. Fairies don’t last long either, he’ll lose them by time he enters high school and go right back to being lonely. I could probably make a case for tootie as well since she lived the she-devil Vicky. Tootie didn’t have much going for her life either but her obsession with Timmy was probably the only thing keeping her grounded.

from my pov, the whole point is that YOUR happiness should not be built off the lives of other people. Your experience is JUST AS VALID as theirs. That was my takeaway and it was a good lesson to people who have a habit of self-sacrificing. There was also the point: The show wouldn’t exist without our protagonist. Everyone in the show wouldn’t have a place to exist without Timmy Turner. With previous 4th wall breaks in the lore, in a roundabout way, this episode was saying: YOU ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN THIS UNIVERSE, and without the various versions of YOU (everyone is a ‘you’ so-to-speak), in the universe, nobody would be around to interpret anything or exist.

Saw this as a kid and understood just how heavy the subject was and it honestly made me think about my own position in life. But then again my ego was big enough to where I didn’t think I was a waste of space in my family’s life. School was a different matter because I constantly felt like I was out of place. Like I never really fit in. Turns out it was literally because I was mentally ahead of everyone else and therefore more knowledgeable and more intellectually inclined than them with episodes like this being the reason for that. While others found it depressing I found it stimulating. Still didn’t make me emotionally mature though….

That was the episode when all the executives all got together and discussed about their home life and all went about how their kids said I wish I was never born or the parents weren't there. And they all agreed to give the kids what they want in Timmy Turner.
