@deejosh9656 ай бұрын
The Current Finance Minister is just Manmohan Singh 2.0.. she doesn't have a say on economic matters.. she is given a task and she does budgeting like a homelady would do for her house.. clearly, in such circumstances, where the finance minister clearly lacks power, such a puppet minister should not be criticised. Instead, look at the positives she has delivered like high forex reserves and overall revenue for state (India).. in her position.. it's impossible for most people to achieve such goals.. So, instead of criticizing fm, criticise pm..

I think the reason for her unpopularity is not based on objectivity but based on human emotion. She is seen as an angry, snapping person with a hint of contempt in her facial expression. I didn't know she was this unpopular until I started seeing commentary in youtube and twitter. I am a hardcore objective person who looks at the end result in totality, and so to me, she has done a pretty good job at the Indian economy considering the pandemic, where every country has gone through deep crisis and we have done well on almost every economic front and parameters. But, as we are individual human beings and ultimately individual human sentiment is everything is all about, I think she should focus on her personal connection to the taxpayers more...That goes a long way.

Lowering corporate taxes and not taking any action on personal taxes shows that it is a Suit Buit ki sarkar and not a government for the people. calling lowering of personal taxes a missed opportunity? really? for how many years it has been missed and repeatedly. I don't think it is justified to call it is "missed opportunity" the govt.'s priorities are clear, Favour the corporates and the salaried can go to hell as they aren't a vote bank. 4. calling it tax harassment and not tax terrorism now? 5. Relying on dividends from RBI by making it sell dollars in market just to earn higher profits also shows unsustainable way of reducing fiscal deficit. 6. Lastly and the most important, an arrogant person who doesn't answer or is not even willing to respond to queries in press conferences/ interviews should not be a finance minister.

I have huge respect for ThePrint. But videos like these are hurting its reputation. Nothing wrong in putting up a defense against unpopular person but on a closer look the arguments themselves are weak and against her (see my other comments for details). ThePrint should be more careful while defending someone who chickened-out when asked to contest elections and has been on record made Marie Antionette-like statements (for soaring prices of Onion) and blaming millennials for Auto-industry slow-down. There was so much backlash when you guys published a video of Yogendra Yadav. I woundn't be surprised if this one does too.

@agytjax6 ай бұрын
You start off by saying why nirmala tai is a good choice, but in her defense, you inadvertently cite all that went against her : 1)Atrocities/harassment of IT officials : You defend her by stating that she is doing the "what", but should focus on the "how". You again state lowering of IT tax and improving compliance. What is stopping the lady from implementing the same. If an editor in ThePrint can make such meaningful suggestions, why not the learned men in the Finance secretary ? 2)Misuse of ED to harass : Again, you defend her saying she was made to conduct these raids. Well, if she had the spine, some basic understanding of how FIIs view Indian economy and some empathy, she would have stood her ground or at least ensured only the genuine cases would have been pursued and ED actions for mere political mileage would been avoided 3)Credit for cleaning up the Banking sector : You are giving undue credit for her and your assertions are factually incorrect. That credit should go to RBI ex-governor Raghuram Rajan, in whose tenure such initiatives were rolled-out, that too under Jaitley's tenure as FM. She herself on record has been acerbic on Rajan, while she should have grateful for the man. In true bjp jumla culture, she never misses an opportunity to claim credit for others work. 4) TCS, LRS debacle : You mentioned these, yet you want the middle class citizens to buy your idea that she is good FM ? There are other flip-flops too. How many times has she presented a budget and rolled back some of the tax policies due to resistance from the Corporates and markets ? It was under tenure that Debt-Mutual fund taxation was changed, affecting millions of retired senior citizens (on one hand govt. promotes, MF sahi hai and on the other comes up with regressive taxes) It is a common knowledge that the new regime has extorted more taxes from the millions of gullible middle class earners, who were hoodwinked into thinking they would end up paying less. Even worse, once the new tax regime is opted they cannot go back! There is also talks including long term gains under nominal tax Despite minority views like yours, this lady would be judged as one of the worst FMs of India, not only coz her policies were unimaginative and lacked foresight, but she is a rude, impolite, arrogant, short-tempered and grumpy person who unfortunately is also incompetent !

Honestly, as long as does her job properly, i don't have any problem with her. Not to mention, economy isn't like chemistry where u know for certain what will happen. The best thing u can do is focus on core economic principles. The results take few years to see the effect. Let's see, how modi 3.0 fares on economic front

Income Tax rates in India are now broadly comparable to those in OECD countries. At best some relief may be justified for lower middle income salaried groups . But its easier said than done . Alteady many good changes have taken both in Direct and GST Tax regimen, modtly on lines of what experts had been suggesting for years . That's the reason why Govt has seen Revenue buoyancy which in turn enables it to fund infrastructure, States and welfare schemes . Fiscal deficit is still high . Economy is doing well in most parameters though challenges of poverty , inequalities and disguised / under employment and unemployment remain . There is an unreasonable and irrational expectation of tax relief by certain sections of middle class on social media .While doing so , there must be a suggestion on how to increase Revenue , with low per capita GDP and low base of Tax paying entities and people .

You should ask her why she has openly spoken about "stocks" being "up/surge" before the election results. No matter how much you hype her, she is terrible as a FM, infact she does not care about the middle class, out of the entire 10 years period she did absolutely nothing for the average indian citizen, India should start reducing the export taxes, stock broker taxes, but many times she did not even comment on this, what nonsense?
