Ruffs main here, he just sucks in ladder format. His kit is really versatile, but his playstyle is really passive and that isn't attractive to the average casual player. The best way to see it is that he's been of the most consistently good and most picked brawlers in competitive tournaments ever since his release, yet his pickrates and winrates in casual play are atrocious. Even I, as a Ruffs main, don't have him as a big option when playing Ranked, because he relies so much on teammates to pop off and said teammates are most likely casuals who never bothered to engage with him and thus don't know how to take advantage of his kit that it's not worth the risk. I will say tho, that the times I picked him with confidence in ladder or ranked matches because I felt like he benefited from the map/draft, were absolute wins, playing Ruffs so successfully and managing to pop off is so rewarding. In a way, I don't mind that people don't play Ruffs, to me he feels like a character you must engage with and I'd rather leave that for players who take the game seriously than casual kids who are just hopping onto the strongest brawlers. Ever since Meg was reworked because of her low playrates I started fearing that the same might happen to Ruffs though, he's not a legendary, but he's been consistently at the bottom of playerates. Maybe his mutation will make him more popular among the casual playerbase

Yeah. I really like Ruffs too, but i don't really play him all that much. A mythic gear for more reload or movement speed with the super would be really nice. I wish they did something with his unload speed too, returning it back to 50ms, nerfing his base damage but adding a bar (like Mortis' coiled snake) that charges each 200ms that makes his damage go back to normal

I like Ruffs a lot (he is in my top 5 favorites i think) and doing good plays with him just feels so satisfying. Today i almost killed a Frank by comboing my main attack and super, but he killed me in the end with like 900 hp left. (Frank has a criminally fast unload speed now). Ruffs is a passive brawler who can be offensive and a support at the same time, and its very rewarding if you pull of good plays with him.

Also, the fact he didnt have an animation on release like most chromatics. People were fond of brawlers like surge, janet or fang because they had cool af animations on release that made the brawlers more enjoyable per say, and wanted ti try them out

Another good point to bring up is when a brawle is OP on release people play them more and they get used to how the brawler works and will stay with them after a nerf rather than switch and try and learn something new. Also people will sink a lot of resources into upgrading an OP brawler and might not want to switch to their lower level brawlers

For me, changing his unload speed was what killed him. The quick unload was what made him feel worthy of a chromatic, at least for me, at the time (i don't think he feels mythic either tbh). Imo they should bring back the quick burst (50ms), nerf his damage and make him have a little bar like Mortis (charges even if not at full ammo) that charges every 200ms that makes his damage go back to normal. I'd also love a mythic gear for him to make his power-up give a speed boost or more reload. He used to be my very favourite in the game but he really fell off. Plus, mutations are just temporary so that won't matter on the long run

great analysis! I think the only thing that can save his playrates permanently and not temporary like a mutation is a good hypercharge. It might not be the most glamorous solution, and doesn't fix his base kit, but it will help the general population find out about ruffs again and start trying him out more, leading to higher play rates, which will lead to more skins and make the devs care more about ruffs than they do currently.

Permanent damage buff sounds nice on paper but rarely helps in-game also we have hypercharged brawlers like fang, jacky, maisie that can team wipe easily. No need for the extra power.

Hypercharged ruffs should drop a buffed star when using his super and should summon the rocket gadget thing when it lands, breaking walls. It should give him 24% speed 25% damage and 5% shield

It answer is simpler than portrayed in this video. Ruffs is just boring to play. Many brawlers have high pick rate because of ultilities and making plays. Ruffs ultility is boring,you don't have high damage to be satisfied of using it on enemies and the only thing it does is upgrading you or other teammates

i would not actually, because I think he is more of a specialist against throwers, as he is probably the best pick to play when your opponent goes a thrower. Besides, your opponent could go someone like fang, darryl, or another tank and hard counter you as a Mico.
