I'm still using my S10e and will need a replacement soon, so I'm glad to have this option. I understand why large phablet phones are popular. For many people the phone is their default device for accessing the net. For some it's their only device for net access. I'm provided by my employer with a laptop/LTE. I have my own laptop. I have a couple of high end desktops at home. For me the phone is a peripheral device. I prefer a phone that fits into a pants side pocket and can be operated with one hand.

As someone who works at tech sales, a lot of people wish they had proper options for small phones. The Zenfone 10 is pretty much a perfect phone in regards to what I would want from a phone. And judging by the amount of questions I get regarding smaller phones, if they made like a Zenfone 10 Lite with some reduced specs at 599 or 499, that phone would sell like crazy. But extreme kudos to Asus for keeping up with the Zenfone series and keeping it small when everyone else is going bigger.

I think we should appreciate the fact that someone still cares about compact phones and still manage to cram up all the good things in it. I love compact phones the likes of which were felt in Pixel 3 a, and it was a lighter phone too, making it minimal to carry and gives it minimal aesthetic altogether. @@fenn_fren definitely no. 5.1 inches is crazy tiny unless you have microscopic hands. I have a 6" oppo and that is just ok size, a little bigger at 6.2-6.4 inches seems to be the perfect size because small displays cause eye strain and are just not a great viewing experience. But that doesn't mean that bigger is better, I have a 7.3 inch honor 8x max too and that is wayy too big. You're not gonna sell me on a "small" phone that is substantially larger than my current phone. I will upgrade to a phone that is actually smaller than what I have (a pixel 4, 5.79in screen). I specifically bought a 2nd gen iPhone SE since I don't use my phone too much (it just needed to work and be reliable) and I wanted something small enough that I could fit in my pocket (and women's pockets generally don't hold much more than a small phone if they're real pockets at all). The iPhone Mini 13 would probably be my preferred size when I need to upgrade.

I have mad respect for Asus for believing in the right thing. How consistently they’re trying to innovate compact phones. I use an iphone 13 mini and words don’t do justice to my user experience. It just feels right. My girlfriend has an iphone 13 pro and its battery backup is almost similar to mine. Also, her battery health is falling faster than mine although I abuse my phone when it comes to charging habits. It is so funny to me when someone says bigger phones have bigger screen for details. Sure, a movie formatted for an IMAX screen looks exactly same and detailed in a 7 inch phone but if you scale it down 1 more inch it’s a disaster 😂 As per this logic 8 inch phone will have better display, camera and battery. 10 inch one will be even better. Go bigger! Sure a bigger screen has benefits but at what cost? A phone has become already an extension to human body these days, and let’s make them as big as possible to immerse ourselves into the black mirrors.

I don't usually comment here but I think you really dropped the ball with this one. With the influence you have, you could have objectively reviewed the phone for what it is (a compact device that doesn't have most of the drawbacks of a compact device which is a marvelous engineering feat by Asus). But it feels like you already had a generic script for "Why small phone are bad" and you were waiting for any small phone to come on the review desk to talk about that and this just happens to be this phone which does not have any small phone problem (thermal performance and battery life) unsurprisingly this shows a disconnect between the points you are making and the objective reality of this product.

These were literally the only options. Then the Zenfone got announced, but I wasn't going to spend upwards of $600 (equivalent, I'm in Sweden) on a phone so I ended up with a lightly used Xperia 5 IV at around $300 from a serial upgrader since I wanted decent wireless charging and a tele lens if possible. Don't really get the love for small phones. Having an issue of not being able to handle something with one hand sounds nitpicky but if you want a small phone, the only available option is the asus zenfones and if you don't want to splash out too much, the s20 or redmi note 11. If you are on a really tight budget, the s10e refurbished. If you can afford something in the middle, the iphone 12 and 13 mini also on the refurbished market. Those are literally the only options out there rn

As a Zenfone 9 owner, this is the smoothest Android experience I ever had and it's finally a smartphone that meets its primary use-case: Being comfortable to use while mobile. It's only the 4300 mAH battery that I don't really feel at all - although turning off 5G seemed to massively increase my battery life. Since I'm keeping my phones alive as long as possible (my OnePlus 6 is great again after flashing Pixel Experience onto it), I hope my Zenfone 9 at least stays my reliable companion at least until 2026.

As a happy owner of the Asus Zenfone 8 i will pay more for a small size phone. Anything after 6 inches of screen (or 150cm in height) will be to big for my pocket. As you also said that the high price is used to do everything they can to make the smartphone as high end as possible. This is something that i notice when i do day to day tasks on my phone. Everything is snappy and the things the phone lacks (for instance the fast charging) is something i can live with for having a phone that actually fits my pocket. To address the battery issue they even made software to make sure that slow charging is possible in the night, with options to only charge to 90 or 80% battery for longer battery life. Their settings software is way beyond some of the competitors. ASUS, continue making these phones because i love them and as long as they stay in this size of phone with the LOADS of customization their software has to offer, i will not switch to anything else.

When all companies are pushing to bigger screens and folding features, I think they are forgetting that weight and size are also an aspect. Take iphone 13 pro max, it's big and it's edges cut into your hand, carrying it in a trouser pocket you can feel its weight pulling on your pants, while a bigger screen can be good I think a smaller phone is easier to carry around and do everyday tasks, and zenfone is packing both the astounding performance with a smaller and sleeker look. Honestly its just amazing how much they can pack in that.

Foldable phones are a waste. You are basically paying to break a screen that will not break if dropped. Opening and closing foldables are slowly breaking that screen with normal usage. Not one company has thought to use these screens in a non-folding form. The first to have done this would have had the edge in saying, "We actually care about our customers". Not one has taken the opportunity because they can squeeze more money out of you due to the other components needed to make it fold or slide out. Sheer greed. Folding is not cool, not shattering when dropped is. Been watching this tech since 2010 and they finally release it when they figure out how to get over on the public without them realizing it. This is how it looks to me.

I prefer the smaller sized phones, and used to always buy Sony Xperia minis. The problem was availability in Australia was next to non-existent and software updates stopped too soon after release. You say (and manufacturers say) that small phones don't sell, but that's only because we didn't have an option because they stopped making them. I don't need screen real estate for videos, I have a tablet for that. I just need something that fits comfortably in my pocket and has decent support. The problem is people get used to it and forget what made them get it in the first place. I've had the 13 mini for over a year now, and I got used to it. Sometimes I feel the lack of a bigger screen (especially when playing on it) and I forget how nice it is to be able to fit my phone in my pockets (women's jeans are no joke). But then I hold a friend's phone for a few minutes, and it feels way too big, and heavy, and more then half of it stays outside the pocket. I'm not the type of person who stays on my phone a lot, i average 4-5 SOT or less when I go out, so the main point was portability for me. You literally forget its in your pocket, i had my heart drop a few times cause i couldn't feel it until I put my hand on my pocket and saw it was still there.

Ever since upgrading from my Pixel 3a to my Pixel 6 I've strained my hand so many times trying to reach things with one hand, which is just the way I naturally and instinctively use my phone, especially if it's quickly sending a reply or acting in a notification. If this phone was £100 cheaper, had a better camera system and was a Nexus or play edition style device which revived Android upgrades as soon as they're available I would've bought it in a heartbeat, it would be my perfect smartphone.
