The Warriors have been one of the hottest teams in the NBA since switching to "small ball", but Jokic and the Nuggets aren't an ordinary matchup.

We live in the moment way too much and forget too fast. MF been in the league 10 years man and got everybody glazing hard. My question is what TF was he doing before that? It's players that come into the league dogging!!! Anthony Edwards, Lebron, Luka, Ja, Carmelo, D Wade. It's others that made it to the Finals in way less time (Lebron 4 years, Steph 6 years). It's other players that were literally unfathomably/unrealistically amazing at the peak of their prime (Steph 2016 MVP). We gotta stop acting like he's a unicorn, he's an exceptionally good player on a good team with a really good coach/system, that's it. He's not a generational talent, little overweight, unathletic kids not waking up trying be like him. I sit back and watch/listen to fans year by year switch up on the next hottest "best" player with limited, inconsistency, bro has been at this level the last 2 years of his 10 year career. Luka came in at around 19 years old a walking anomaly and it's not taking 10 years. Like I said he is good but I cant discredit dudes that's either been balling out the gate or consistently at the top for years cause Jokic is hot today and he's supposed to be better than they ever were??? Stop it I've seen MFs like LeBron and Steph overcome and show and prove too much for too long to say Jokic is better than that. For goodness sake he has one ring he won against the Miami Heat... the Heat!!! Say he should be MVP only cause best player is a little far, I can name multiple players better than him at various things cause he's NOT even a league leader of ANYTHING, not PPG, he's 3rd in RPG, not APG, not SPG, not BPG, not a 3PM leader and not TS%. He's the best player on a good team with a good coach that media is fawning over like he's actually the best in the league, mind you his team isn't even in 1st place in their conference, OKC has a better record and SGA has been hooping at a higher level all season and doing more with less because you know, his team didn't just win a Finals and they'll still find a way to give it Jokic. Anthony Edwards is the best player on his team and has the Timberwolves in 1st place in the same conference as Jokic, how is he not considered better? Jokic supposed to be the "best", his team just won a Finals with the same coach, but Jokic is playing better than Ant with his team...apparently not. Literally cant make this sh*t up man, they didn't go this hard when Westbrook was averaging a triple double for FOUR different seasons, this dude gets one and it's a celebration smh we gotta start looking at the game as a whole and stop making quick takes because we listen to what the media pushes. Use your eyes, incorporate the stats and utilize a lot of logical thinking, cause if you didn't know anything about ball you'd think Jokic was MJ the way MFs talk about him.

If u actually watch games everybody handchecks in the nba contrary to the myth that there is no handchecking. Thats why offensive players are swiping hands during drives because they r handcheck during drives. In this video alone u can see defenders putting hands on the players hip when facing back2dbasket. Its not dirty all defensive players in the nba are doing it.

One thing from this game that really annoyed me when looking at the Westbrook video was the Murray blocks on Curry. 2 beautiful blocks, cleaner than most of the ones in the Westbrook compilation and he just got discouraged from attempting them, because there was a whistle on both. Curry does not get many free throw attempts, but I don't know if he deserved these 5.

In GS defence, there was a time when Dray could somewhat contain Yoke. Unfortunately, like he always does. Yoke figured out Dray. He's done it to every player who has ever defended him. Once he figures them out, there is no stopping him. He is a basketball masterminded.

Draymond could never defend prime Jokic, the Warriors were super lucky Jamal Murray and MPJ were injured in2022 if not they would have swept y’all just like they did to the Lakers, but Lebron is always on the unlucky side, in all his deep playoffs run he never had to play against a badly injured team, just imagine if KD and Klay were injured in the 2018 Finals instead of 2019, that Lebron would beat the Warriors even with that weak ass squad he had, or imagine if Kyrie and Love weren’t injured in 2015, or if Wade and Bosh weren’t washed/injury prone in 2014 … Lebron had 12 solid years playing at a level even higher than Jokic right now, from 08 to 2020, but he only won 4 chip, and that’s because his team was the underdog in 7 of his 10 Finals, he was only favorite to win in 2020, 2013 and 2011 🤷🏾‍♂️And if AD wasn’t injured 50% of the time between 2021 and 2022, they could have won another chip but like i said Lebron never lucky, even at 39 he has to be the best player if his team want to win because AD is so inconsistent… I hope they get a Trae Young or Donovan Mitchell next year because im tired of seeing his teams waste his talent, from his 1st stint with the CAVS to now with the Lakers, his front office wasted so many years … I hope they can put some great players around Wemby because im tired of not seeing a GOAT level player playing and dominating while being super entertaining and likeable, Jokic, Giannis, Embiid, Doncic … None of them have that aura, they are ALL TIME greats like Duncan, Hakeem, Shaq or Magic, but not GOAT level like MJ and Bron.

Denver native here. I love the Nuggets BUT I would say that they appear a wee bit “low energy” against some higher seeded opponents, because t I think that is deliberate. I think the team is playing the long game and are trying to keep Jamal healthy and keep Joker’s minutes down. The bench definitely needs this improve their production to give the starting 5 a break. Also Joker is under appreciated in his time, his basketball IQ is off the charts and he makes everything look easy therefore not interesting to people sensitive to sweaty players who like to dunk and hang on rims and thump their chests after each basket. To each their own.

As a Warriors fan, against SMART teams we have to roll with a bigger lineup, like against the Nuggets, T-wolves, Celtics, Bucks, Cavs we should run a starting lineup of Curry, Wiggins, Kuminga, Draymond, and Looney, off the bench it’ll be, Cp3, Podz, Klay, Saric, and TJD! Kerr needs to realize that yes you can run small ball only against CERTAIN teams that you can match up well against, but teams like Denver, you gotta counter their size by going BIGGER!
@Grievous_
@Grievous_ 3 ай бұрын
If only Kerr would to try a starting lineup of Curry, Wiggins, Kuminga, Draymond and Looney against Denver, you would have Wiggins as the POA defender on Jamal Murray, Curry would be on KCP, Kuminga on Porter Jr but most importantly, have Looney on Jokic because this would allow Draymond to roam around defensively and be a helper and we all know that’s what makes Draymond one of the greatest defenders!
@jesstiss222
@jesstiss222 3 ай бұрын
I could be wrong but i wonder if Kerr (and other teams too) hasn’t used bigger lineup options against Denver in particular because maybe some of the younger, bigger guys still need the bball IQ development and discipline in order to not get picked apart more by Joker. The Nuggets feast on mental and positional errors even more than size mismatches. Could that be it?

@@Grievous_ Jokic completely destroyed Looney when he was going iso against him yesterday. Somehow I don't think Looney is the answer for Jokic. Green was doing a good job against Jokic, but I don't think it's completely possible to stop the man. You go taller? He will go around. You go stronger? He will go above. You go double? He will drop off a perfect pass. It was shown in the video.

It was just a bad shooting night by Curry. He was missing shots, open ones that he usually makes. Things would have been different if Curry had an average shooting night. What was glaring was the turnovers, those are the missed opportunities to score. Small-ball will only work in stretches that's why there is a need for GSW to be more flexible with their rotations if they play big teams. Increased minutes for Wiggins, Kuminga, Trayce and some minutes for Moody. Green at the 5 is taking too much of his energy on defense and is still expected to be the fulcrum in their offense with the high P&R with Curry. That's asking too much from Green. GP2 is great but is mismatch if he guards 4s in the lane.

I think the Knicks are 1 team build to defend Denver pretty well as they dominated them by 40 a month ago at msg and as a Knick fan, wouldn't mind see NY and Denver in the finals because the matchups would be intriguing.

You'd be able to keep AG off the glass if he didn't get away with a foul on Kuminga. Refs just swallow the whistle selectively. That's the problem with the NBA, especially the Warriors.

0:55 Another bad take. Green was a dozen feet from Jokic. He wasn't "quick enough to recover", Jokic just didn't take the opportunity he had for a wide open 3. 6:58 I know the narrative being pushed at this point was that Denver's size was giving the Warriors trouble, but the reason Gordon has "no trouble getting to the rim" is not because of his size but because the refs allowed him to take three-and-a-half steps. Do you really not notice these things?

Reggie is a heart attack. I'll be screaming bloody hell at him and then he hits a three... But what I don't get is why they can't run some plays for Porter when he's out there with the reserves. I mean, set a freaking screen for the guy and get him the ball.

Not sure about GA but I think his athletic gifting is a double-edged sword bc it exposes him to more injuries and perhaps less long term success or growth opportunities (like last year’s postseason) so, paradoxically Joker has a higher floor because he doesn’t rely on typical athleticism (for example 5 stocks - 4 steals + 1 block last night where his feet barely left the floor) and he has an answer for everything you throw at him. Plus he keeps adding to his bag and “solving” teams the more he plays them (like vs Draymond last night). I dont watch much of the Bucks but it would be cool to hear from those who do. Great question!

What an amazing high level breakdown, I'm a GSW fan and I thought that after the matchup against the denver that it was over and they couldnt do nothing against them but as dominant as Denver is, it is still a chess match. Why do you think the warrior didnt decide to sign a Demarcus Cousin on a minimum vet contract? the guy could have been a tough matchup for Jokic and in offense can spread the floor and also attack the paint. He would have provided size, offense and a bit or rim protection, seems like exactly what the warrior needed. why do you think they didnt do it?

He's not in front of Jokic, so he cant really do anything from there (because he's too small and too unathletic to get the ball). He reaches and there's contact to Jokic's arms - that's an automatic foul if it's Lebron or Embiid. Embiid would throw the ball and tilt himself onto the floor or start swinging his hands around to show there was contact. But generally the defence calls (offence probably even more so) are very inconsistent. It all depends on the refs, the players committing the foul, the players that the foul gets committed on, the eagerness of the refs in the given day etc. There were 2 fouls this game in the 3rd quarter where Murray blocked Curry's shots from behind with no contact and got whistles - then he stopped trying to defend aggressively, because he was basically just giving GSW points so he reverted to the default putting your body between the player and the basket in whatever way you can.
@HoopVenue

He gets beat on the spin, then throws his shoulder back in front which would be a very obvious foul had he not gotten bodied as a result of 50+ pounds advantage.
