What we learned is that it took the 5v8 for the Celtics to lose vs the Denver Bumgets. At the start of the ball game, Tony Brothers has been letting Jokic push Porzingis around without calling offensive fouls. Tatum drives the ball and no fouls are called. Meanwhile, the Celtics gets 3 technicals for clapping their hands. That's all we need to know about this game. The Celtics will defeat these bums in the Finals when they have the homecourt advantage and Tony Brother's isn't refereeeing anymore.

I think I first learned about the variance of 3pt shots in Bill Simmons Book of basketball. He said that the weaker team in a matchup should shoot more threes, because they might get hot and steal a win. If they go cold and lose, they were probably gonna lose anyway. But the stronger team should not shoot as many threes, since they are favored to win, and the high variance of 3s mean they might go cold and shoot themselves out of a game they should have won. He said something similar for pace. Weaker teams should push the pace because in a small sample size like the playoffs, more possessions with variance might let luck tilt things in their favor. While the stronger team wants to slow it down, and make each possession count, since they are already favored. The regular season is long, 82 games. Variance evens out as much as it can. But the playoffs are short and intense, and variance plays a big role. Analytics always complains about small sample size, but that is what the playoffs are and will always be. So teams need to focus on how to play and win in the small sample size of the playoffs, not how to dominate in the very different regular season.
@udishomer5852
@udishomer5852 10 ай бұрын
But if the Celtics shoot 40 3s a game their variance goes down compared to the Nuggets 20 3s. Maybe that's why they had a much higher percentage 3pt percentage this game.

5:19 Jokic looks to left, then turns to Holiday then he looks to the middle watching Tatum and Porzingas get something going. So while the cut is happening he turns back to the ball and anticipates the pass very early. Celtics made it way to easy to read for him. Denver knows the Celtic"s offense better than the Celtics.

He teammates are WAY too talented and productive for him to be a legit candidate. We also learned that the MVP should be Jokic's award to lose, but the voters are a fickle bunch. I'm a big fan of Murray and the real reason he is not an all star is because he tends to not play well against teams that are not very strong. He is a playoff perfomer and an all star when it matters the most. Anyway, I like him like this than playing well on regular games then disappearing on playoffs (Tatum, Booker, CP). It’s also insane to forget Jrue Holiday can really get deep into an elite offensive bag when he needs to. That behind the back almost jump step back into the corner 3 was just filth. However, Boston always seems to fall in love with one particular style. I want to say a couple years ago it was the isolation; and these last few years, it has been the 3. It was a huge reason they fell down 3-1 in the CF & a huge reason why they lost this game. The game will slow down drastically come playoff time; it’s hard to create a new identity. KP has never been a back to basket kind of player; so do they start posting up Tatum/Brown more? These are the decisions Mazzulla will have to think about because he’s got to be seeing a negative trend here. You gotta trust Denver to make a deeper run if the two don’t meet because 1 relies on hot shooting & overall talent (and grant it, which has worked to this point); but Denver can shoot, but still dominate the paint.

What I’m seeing here is that Denver plays pretty much the perfect version of their game. The way they’ve been playing recently is their ceiling(a championship winning ceiling.) In a series I'm going with the team that is taking higher percentage shots Boston will have to move closer to the basket because Denver still has the Joker and he will find the open man, on shots that don't look like passes but are.

As a Celtics fan we learned 2 things imo: First thing is that Jokic is simply unguardable. We put KP, Horford, Tillman. Jrue etc and he torched them all And the other thing is the Celtics can DEFINITELY hang with Denver. Team shot 29% from 3, 64% from the line, 12 turnovers and Tatum was a complete non factor offensively and we only lost by 6. Still like our chances in a 7 game series with them. PS: That Tatum corner 3 still hurts man.... We couldve have genuiently won despite having a season low shooting from 3 and from the line. That's ultimatly the encourging thing

@@milkymace9502 you’d think that and we certainly did last year but recently we’ve been attacking the rim alot more which is encouraging going into the offs. Heavy Post scoring as well with KP/JT/JB also another route for baskets closer to the rim. We’re no longer as one dimensional

Defense can’t beat Denver. You need a better offense than Denver. When the Celtics make threes they can win but when they play Denver they’re typically on a bad shooting night. They need to stop worrying about Jokic he’s gonna score regardless of how you defend him. You need to beat them on every offensive possession. The three ball needs to be a majority of shots and they have to make a convincing 50% of them. Denver doesn’t have bad shooting nights because each player has a different way to score. Gordon can dunk and Murray can shoot if Jokic needs them. When it comes down to it Celtics need a good shooting night and they can score more points. Denver needs to play like normal and hope the Celtics don’t have a good shooting night.

I know many people think the Celtics will reach the finals, but I think it will be the Cavaliers instead. Healthy and in rhythm, they have the most dominant starting 5 in the east, but they are usually inconsistent. And the two towers scheme can contain the front court of the Nuggets just enough for the series to be entertaining, the Cavalier have a slight chance to win it all

The Nuggets are fine tuned team. Excellent coaching, Jokic and a legit 8 man deep roster. The Nuggets big 3 (Jokic, Murray & Gordan) are incredibly consistent. If a 4th player gets hot (usually Porter) the Nuggets are unstoppable. Go Nugs!!!

Great vid man. This is exactly why the greats of the old NBA game would do well against modern players. The olds can learn to shoot 3s, Jerry West for example would average over 30 with a 3 pt line. But Wilt and Kareem and West would do work down low, and when you NEED a bucket, the closer the better. Simple physics.

That game was kinda frustrating. Tatum had a bad game. Cleveland the same Giving up a big lead in the fourth and his not even coming close to hitting the last shot troubled many who, like me, are very critical of him. Tatum looked lost and confused against the Nuggets. 14 losses and 2 against them is not a deal breaker but they've gotten in their heads and if they do meet in the finals they have to be feeling pretty good about themselves. Lets go guys lets get this Chip!!!
