All he had to do was put the darn thing on neutral and roll it off from the railroad tracks enough to where it's safe. Then, go get some fuel from the gas station with a gallon container. Pour it in the truck, drive to the gas station and then fill it up. Problem solved.

Look into being an HVAC technician. It's kind of like car repair, but you get more freedom. Independent car mechanics are getting harder and harder to find for a reason. Repairing cars is getting more computerized and expensive to do, forcing people to auto manufacturers that have crap pay and bad hours.

yeah its getting worse, i have changed things what only had 2 bolts and right on top and easy to get to, only to later discover the thing must be adjusted by computer. and not the cheap computer either, ooh no, sorry, tow it to the dealer, pay them 100 dollars for 5 minutes of work. meanwhile the car owner is pissed because they thought it was only going to take a few minutes and 25 bucks labor to change, so now i must always double check to see if a part needs extra work with a computer. you cant just look at a part and know right away, you got to look it up. takes time

Another thing with the squeaky belt is "from what i have seen on one of our cars" is on replacing an accessory seemed to cause belt noise. An found out the pulley didnt line up with the other pulleys... " squeak" so with careful placement of a washer to move the alternator to one side.... no more noise. So pulley alignment is a factor also.

Long Story but it relates to the first topic and I am very bored. My wife was making a bad habit of letting her New Toyota Prius run after the vehicle's estimated range hit zero and the digital display read empty. I didn't know this was a thing until the 3rd time finding her display reading "0 Estimated Miles." The first 2 times, I simply put $10 of gas into the tank. The 3rd time I brought it up to her because at this point I was starting to question if the car was reading the fuel tank level improperly and that she knew that it was incorrect; I figured that the sooner I take it in for a warranty fix, the better. Sadly this was not the case because I learned that she has been doing this ever since her road trip to Canada. At the time of hearing this, her road trip occurred about 4 months prior. So I asked the next obvious question...why? To paraphrase, she informed me that she learned that the car could go at least 100 extra miles AFTER the display starts to read "0 estimated Miles" left. She discovered this while on a long patch of road featuring no gas stations in which she drove about 100 extra miles than what her car estimated. I inform her that is good to know for emergencies, but she shouldn't take advantage of that every time because the car will always have some level of error and car manufacturers program the computer to underestimate remaining mileage on purpose for various reasons. I also informed her that she is making the fuel pump work harder to receive enough gas for the engine (this is less of a problem on a gas sipping Prius, but the concern is still there when she uses power mode) as well as the damage she could cause to the pump when she finally runs out of gas. She pretty much blew me off, told me the car can handle it, and that I shouldn't tell her what to do with HER car. Her tone was fairly disrespectful and it rubbed the wrong way that she thinks that just because she owns it doesn't mean she can treat it anyway she wants to because any problems that occur fall on me too (I am the primary money maker by a large degree so anything that happens to the car will mostly come out of my pocket, not hers). We get in a bit of an argument about the issue because my point of view in the matter is that it take 5 minutes and 20 bucks to fill the car up, so there is no large inconvenience to fill the tank up. She mainly argued for the sake of having full control in the car's fate. She doesn't comply to my request so I found myself having to check her car's gas levels for about 2 months (increasingly becoming more PO'ed each time I got in her car to solely fill the tank because I might use her car once a month for a trip that is more than 20 miles for the fuel savings.). The day finally came that I received some bad news about the car's health. My wife comes up to me and informs me that the car has a check engine light on. I got in the car to drive to the local Autozone for a free computer check.I managed to arrive to AutoZone with a mileage estimation of -5 miles (if my car could display a negative). After checking the error, the AutoZone associate informed me a mix of possible bad news or mix of possible good news. The straight up bad news was that the pump was not detecting proper vacuum/pressure. The associate gave me three possibilities off his computer: 1. The pump was not functioning correctly (possible bad news most likely caused by my wife: I win the argument but pay for the fix). 2.The Gas tank has a small hole somewhere (possible bad news not caused by my wife but I could warranty it out: I don't win). 3. The Gas tank was allowed to run too low, so the computer was being misled (possible good news also caused by my wife: I still win and I don't pay a cent) So I did the smart, adult thing. I asked the associate if I could use his computer to copy the information to Microsoft Word and print it; he complies so I copy and paste the text over, but I delete the one line stating that the gas tank could have a leak while leaving the two other possibilities. The man informed me that if the computer was misled by the low tank, it will correct itself within 30 or 50 miles. With a plan in place and a tampered document, I went home to inform my Wife about the possible headache she might have caused herself and me. I informed her that her gassing habits might be causing the car's computer to display the check engine light in error. OR her gassing habits might have damaged the pump and she'll have to pay hundreds of dollars to fix a problem that was easily avoidable. Luckily the check engine light turned off within a couple of days after a tank refill. To avoid her simply running the car with a well filled tank and then returning to her previous habit, I informed her that she can't continue this habit anymore because if the check engine light is always providing a false error from the constantly low tank, we'll never know when a real issue is being detected. To conclude this long story, I won the argument and she keeps her tank above a quarter at all times at my very stern request.

Before that car was the Geo Metro, it was the Chevy Sprint. I had one for quite a few years, 3 cylinders 1.0 litre and 5 speed manual. It was not only zippy, but got as good mileage as a Prius!!! Mine was an 87, it was really a Suzuki Celtus.

Someone I know ran his vehicle out of gas one to many times and it ended up being a costly mistake because he had to get the fuel pump replaced afterwards which costed him around $300. Apparently if you run out gas it can cause the fuel pump to break.

Scotty, geo Metro also came with 4 cylinder engines, same as Suzuki 1.3L 4 cylinder engine. Not fast by any means, but faster than some modern cars like prius! Geo Metro is good car, my 25 year old Geo is still going strong, original engine and transmission! Best car to work on bar none - better than Toyota or Honda! But of course geo was bad for mechanics because DIY owner can do almost everything by themselves. And you are wrong about parts - they are still pretty easy to find and cheap too

Whether your tank is full or almost empty, the fuel pickup for the engine is always at and sucking from the bottom, so keeping your tank full won't prevent stuff heavier than gas like water and crud from getting sucked into the engine.

The key thing is this: know your tanks capacity and when your low fuel warning light comes on and/or how many gallons you put on the tank when it is near E and never drive beyond that if you know your average M.P.G. My car, 2010 Fusion Hybrid: 17 gallon tank, warning light comes on at 14 gallons used; the middle of the E is 15--15.5 gallons: I never go beneath that.

Anecdotal reports from Lexus forums concerning the I6 vs V8 1990ish to 2002ish is actually that the V8s are more reliable and get better gas mileage, while most of their service is easier to do or much cheaper, for instance the alternator and spark plugs.

My '94 F150 which I bought new has dual tanks. I have routinely run the tanks down to E where the CEL comes on and the engine starts to stumble from lack of fuel before switching tanks. Well, the truck is almost 25 years old now and it still has it's original fuel pumps and filter.

Many modern cars, like the one shown in the video contain a integrated plastic sub fuel tank which remains full, even when your tank fuel level gets low to keep your pump cool. Yes running completly out of fuel is bad because your fuel pump may begin to pump air and will overheat but running your tank until low is good. Gasoline does not last long before it degrades and filling your tank too early just dilutes old gas in your tank.

Hi Scotty. I bough used wheels with tyres, the morning after I fitted them a tyre was flat. I went to get it looked at and the sidewall was internally damaged that you could see the strings. I was told this was from driving with a flat tyre, wasn't me so got scammed on the wheels. So they fitted a part worn tyre, I drove home (about.0.6 of a mile) and a few hours later I noticed it was flat. I noticed the tyre had been repaired, they didn't tell me this. I pumped it up in the morning and went back to the tyre garage and they took it off and found there was a split/cut on the other side of the tyre. They said the only way I can get my money back from that one is if they fit a new tyre, so we did that. The guy was also undoing my wheel with a torque wrench because he couldn't get it off with his impact gun! That's how tight he put it on himself with the same impact the day before and he thought I did it that tight.

I have owned it since jan 14th 2013 and it only broke down once on me over some kind of a sensor or something like that, Can't really remember. But i highly recommend them if you find one in good condition with a good engine and trans.
