I am NOT worried about George. The reason he feels like "things" mean less, is BECAUSE he is a dad now. He knows what's more important. Way to go, George!
@zachdorman6404 ай бұрын
Well, George (if you read this) - me, my wife, and my son did that whole McKay's (used book store) 5 store visit to get $800 credit. Yes, it was insane. Knoxville was the location where all the heat exhaustion stuff took place. We travelled from our home state of NC and ended in Nashville. We ended up with $840 credit each - and we visited you guys the next day down in Franklin. You and Dave were hosting that next day. You got the pleasure of meeting us. $1,680 of McKay's store credit and meeting Dave and George: Priceless.
@shelleydorman1764 ай бұрын
I'm his wife and I was here to say the same thing. It was SO worth it. McKay's mitigated disaster by allowing people to skip some stores. And seeing you and Dave on your show and learning more about the Battle of Franklin, and making it a trip for our family helped make it worth it. Sorry to take away your dopamine!
@shelleydorman1764 ай бұрын
Also, using it for books George. Love you George. Also, Rachel's confusion about people wanting $800 for used books!! A lot of heavy readers were there too George! Nerds of all kinds.

It's important to talk about the difference between dopamine and serotonin. Dopamine makes you want more. Serotonin makes you feel like you have enough and you don't need more. All that stuff that money can't buy - a good relationship, pets' love, friends, family, meditation, etc. those are the things that make you feel content. We tend to seek dopamine to make us happy, but it never will, because you will never have enough. We should be seeking serotonin.

Okay, hold on. I have a homesteading channel here on YT. One of George’s last comments was that if you want to get away from social media, homesteading is as close as you’re gonna get. Nope! I have internet way out in the country with Starlink and I can promise you social media is still a huge presence for me and most other people. I deleted FB years ago, never really got into IG, won’t do Tik Tok ever, but KZbin… I can waste my life away listening to videos all day long!

17:55 Actually, I can't go to a restaurant and find anything that's better than what I can cook. Pre-pandemic, I could find some, but not now. Always a disappointment when a restaurant doesn't live up to expectations, especially if you've been there before. We prefer to cook at home, and save a bit of money as a bonus.

I heard about the McKays (used bookstore) thing and still wish I could have gone! McKays is my happy place. Also one of the great Dopamine detox things is to chase Serotonin instead. That’s the other happiness hormone thats the high you get after doing something hard or accomplishing a goal. For myself, I used to play Video Games too much sometimes. But now I make them instead, and getting a feature implemented or seeing a handmade 3d character run around is the best feeling ever.

Life is meaningless and all that we pursue is vanity…but WITH GOD, everything we do is given meaning and purpose. With God it is abundance even in our lacking. It is joy when there is no reason to smile. With God we are truly free to be in this world because we are free from the vain pursuits of materialism and worldly values. Everything we do, whether it’s washing the dishes, an average job like accounting, or feeding the homeless, is an act of worship as we do it to the glory of God!
