Why Old School Runescape is the BEST MMO in 2023

There are many MMORPGs to play in 2023, but even though OSRS is technically 15 years old, it's the best one to get into. Let me explain why in this video.

This game was my fave back when I was in grade 6, I still have that account in RS3 (maxxed) and I will never log in again to RuneScape 3. Old School however, I am already only 350 hours in the new account and I obtained tangleroot and almost the quest cape :p so happy its back!

Worth noting that the official client is getting some runelite features as well as the mobile client. I think it could be good for new players to not have the information overload that runelite might provide up front. Maybe switch to runelite once they're a little more experienced.

I think one of the best things OSRS does for its players is have every skill be accessible, while also creating content for those that want to go further and get rewarded for it. This also allows people to never feel like OSRS is a chore or a massive hurdle to play. If you want to progress fishing for example, you can afk fish, where you only have to click roughly every 5 minutes or so, and maybe drop or bank some fish. Then you have Tempoross, a fishing boss that has mechanics, and you actually have to learn how to do it efficiently in order to get more rewards/xp. Then you have tick manipulated swordfishing, which is the fastest xp, but takes a lot of practice to get down consistently, and is very click intensive. Also if you just want to make money, there are also ways to trains skills that do that as well. Essentially if you want to do something in the game, there usually is always a method that you can take that suits your preferences/mood for the day. If you want to max, you can do it all through afk activities, even when it comes to slayer, you can purposefully block and cancel task that are too involved, and only choose ones that require basic prayers and eating. You choose your difficulty, you choose your fun, and it all progresses your account. Compared to other MMORPGs where the game basically forces you to do x dungeon to get to y dungeon to get to z raid to then get gear requirements for the final raid. If you wanted to do a raid in OSRS, you can go grind out gear drops and try be the best equipped, and you'll be rewarded, but you can also just grind gold afk and then buy gear and do lower invocations in Tombs of Amascut. The game is its own sandbox, and the more minigames/bosses/raids/content they add, the more ways you'll be able to play in that sandbox, without nullifying what came before or after it.

Ive always been just a skiller on this game. Just the afk grinding and being able to just watch a show while like casually grinding up my skills is what i loved about it. I have a 110 account i gave to a friend but i just recently got back into this. And i started new account grinding. I just grind when i can im now a grown ass man. And its just great to like every now and then while doing office work hop on. Or while at home watching some anime just casually grind. Ill even stream it on twitch and just vibe. Watch a show n play aha

Hello as a new player is OSRS worth my time or should I play Ultima Outlands or Guild Wars 2 or EverQuest Project 1999? What game is the best in the long run and will still be played in 100 years? What do you suggest?

hes right i played this game for a few years and still iam not maxed my stats are higher, then nudfuk but still i havent done all the content. osrs is not 15 years old it came out in feb 2013, so its almost 10 years old. And yes 2:32 you don't need billions of gp or max gear to enjoy the game, in fact i used void gear and barrows gear and i had 2k skill total and only 100 mill bank at that time.

Yup! I'd say you can get some relatively high tier gear pretty early on (such as void), so you can start early with PvM. The cap to get in is low, the ceiling is very high.

@@nudfik yup the ceiling is veyr high some guys have like 5 bill in the top max gear and some people have 10-200mill in gear. The top gear dps advantage is usually 10-25 percent difference in dps compared to like barrows gear /dragon weapons.

I played osrs for about 2-3 months and it’s just really not the game for me. I was f2p until I beat the majority of the f2p quests but member quests are just so much more valuable. I would grind for hours getting my combat skills up but there’s so many member quests that make early game grinding obsolete. I really just liked doing combat skills but after a while the best thing to do is beat down on crabs for hours and that’s the best way to gain combat. I would hear about raids but you don’t have a chance to do raids until you are very very far along in the end game which makes complete sense but i with there was more grouping activities. I leveled a good amount of other crafting skills but all of them become slogs after a few hours and it makes sense it’s not like you want to just earn high skill levels without earning them but often the strategies for gaining xp was just boring for me. My best achievement was completing recipe for disaster but after I did I really didn’t want to do much more. The clan I was in really kept me playing as they were all cool people but I think I had the most fun just hosting drop parties and giving away money through games I would create. I thought the combat was completely garbage. Having just a prayer that negates x damage I think is so bad and I found some quests would almost require safe spots which I thought was lame. The game wasn’t for me but I’m happy other people like it it’s just not my type of game.

Sir, i usually play the new Call of Duty, Counter-Strike 2 and Guild Wars 2 but I am getting tired of these stressful games and I delved into EverQuest Project 1999, Tibia, OSRS and right now I am looking for an MMO to play for my entire life. An MMO with infinite playtime/grind and a calming soundtrack. It should be easy to play and make you feel peaceful/relaxed. Am looking for a chill mmo. MapleStory or Tibia or OSRS or Mabinogi or Silkroad Online or Ragnarok Online or WHAT THE F should I be playing then?

It's chill and easy to play unlike other mmos like guild wars 2 where you have to teleport and mount and run to places. It's a goddamn walking simulator. I did only play story in gw2 tho already level 80 main story done, will do dlcs next but it isn't fun. I should do fractals or wvw but I'm too lazy to learn how to get a team for it or how to do it... OSRS is just easy and shuts off my brain. I am looking for a nostalgic MMO game I can play for infinite hours... What do you suggest? I think only these MMOs come to mind for this: - Old School RuneScape - Tibia - EverQuest Project 1999 - Ultima Outlands Ultima Outlands seems very compelling but it seems scripty and complicated to learn. I really don't know what MMO to play right now. Could you help?

@@sorenvc honestly osrs always holds up. And there’s guides now where you can just quest and that will level you up you don’t have to grind specific stats like in the old days they made it way easier. The one thing I like about it that I don’t get from other mmos is you really feel accomplished when you achieve something because it’s so hard to get they basic things in that game. I don’t play it anymore cus I am playing ff14 and now Starcraft so I’m good but I still itch to play osrs I just hate that I have to start all over again.

I disagree with the suggesting people download runelite to start. It has a lot of complicated features and the setup can be very confusing even for more knowledgable players. Playing the game as-is will also make the switch more impactful. Personally, I'd say start with the vanilla client and swap to Runelite after having explored a bit

@@zed6701 The New Official Old School RuneScape Client has anti aliasing, improved render distance, and better scaling for UI/graphics, and is comparable to GPU plugin on RuneLite. If you mean 117 HD, I'd argue that it makes mechanics in bosses a lot harder to visually understand, especially with dodging shadows being overlayed with boss shadows etc. I also think that it tampers with the games visual style, which goes for a low poly stylized look, and adding crazy effects/smooth lighting/normal maps can make certain areas of the game look worse. Jagex needs to make their own HD pack to better utilize internal game code to improve the visuals, in a way that doesn't feel unnatural or untrue to the games vision/style. Just a better lighting engine that isn't overly saturated would be a good start.

Not recommended. The game in and of itself is not immersive or particularly fun and offers very little excitement, the most common highlight for an individual playing the game is literally to not be attentive to the action their trying to do. The company that runs the game has a long history of bad decision making that has had a detrimental effect on the game or player base and continues to be so. I could go on and on, but I do want to end with this: I've invested a lot of time into this game and I warn you, this game has a bitter end, cause the day you genuinely quit and look back at the hours spent playing this game and what you've gotten from it, I can not genuinely with care for anybody say this game is worth it.

I wouldn't say best MMO. It's a far cry to make such a claim especially given how terrible it actually is to play the game. I would more put it as one of the best casual idle MMO's. It's a good niche game if you're looking for one where you don't need to invest 100% of your immediate attention into it. It's also a very good introductory MMO, if anything, but as you become more knowledgeable of MMO's in general you'll start to see just how lacking the game is at later stages. On top of that, the game's numbers are hugely inflated due to botting and gold farming. If anything, the actual player count will always only be about 45% of what is being shown. Even with that, at least 30% of that portion is also just manual gold farming operations that use multiple accounts, and just people playing multiple accounts.

Then WHAT is the best mmo to date now? I've tried EverQuest Project 1999 and loved it, but wanted a more chill relax game. I tried Tibia and OSRS and Ultima Outlands. UO was way too complex and scripty for me to handle or get into. I also play Guild Wars 2 and just got 100% map completion on my first character, I know I will need to do fractals. That being said, which mmo do you recommend for me?

Is OSRS or Tibia better for me? And what else do you recommend? I said I like Project 1999 a lot but it is NOT getting updated. I prefer playing a monthly subscription game that doesn't feel empty because if we're being honest, Project 1999 is a great game now, but it feels empty and lonely af and it will never get more updates. That's why I'm looking to switch to Tibia or OSRS or what else is there? Wouldn't have any problem with a monthly subscription but the game should be not too demanding.

@@sorenvc If you want a game where you can basically play while AFK'ing 90% of the time then RS is that game. Though, when you eventually move past all of that you'll start to see how empty the game feels when you actually play it. If you want something that's entirely better to play, but slightly less AFK friendly then play Albion Online. Albion is legitimately one of the best F2P games that you can play at the moment. It has a sub system, but you don't need it to play the game whatsoever. If you do sub to the game then you get some small boosts and benefits across the game. Not to mention, the game is also highly populated with around 200K active daily players.

OSRS is a similar feeling as playing Tibia, but OSRS has way more players and Tibia videos on KZbin and even all streams on twitch are all Spanish or some kind of language I don't know. I'm not even kidding, search for Tibia streams on twitch or videos on KZbin and they're all Spanish or something. OSRS is just better. But as you said OSRS may feel empty... I think I will look past the daily 1000 playerbase of EverQuest Project 1999 and stick to it. It is imo the best mmo right now along with Guild Wars 2. OSRS and Tibia and Ultima Outlands are good too though. As for UO it's too scripty and complex and not worth investing 100 hours just to learn Ultima Outlands. I would rather just play EverQuest Project 1999, it's so good. I will also play Guild Wars 2.
