I have it, wife loves it. We have the Wind AWD and in sunny California, we're getting just over 300 miles of range (at 100% when we need it) but the best part? FAST CHARGING, this thing charges fast and makes EV ownership very easy. My Volvo C40 charges slow and has a max range of just over 200 miles - yes, performance is fun and great, but I need to upgrade to something with an extra 50 miles of range next year, maybe the Ioniq 5N or wait for the Macan EV RWD which could have 350 miles of range!

Have also the Wind AWD with all in except sunroof and Meridian sound system because of our 🐕 After 54 years of mostly German ‚premium‘ this IS the first car ever with NO issues. TCO therefore fantastic. I drive mostly mountainous roads, German and Swiss Autobahn and short distances. Have also been tyre testing on race track to beat higher powered Alfa-Romeo Stelvio with 510 PS Ferrari engine but about the same weight. Ferrari 600 Nm mine 608 Nm of torque but only 333 PS. I do 0-100 km/h GPS in less than promised 5,2 seconds! 12500 km with 17,4 kWh per 100 km is par to Tesla but less than most others in its class. The 800 Volts system is highly efficient and fast charging goes up to 238 kW. The Taycan makes 270 kW. Lately they tested in the VAG ‚house news‘ AutoMotorSport where only German makes win tests the newest Audi Q4 e-Tron Sportback against Kia EV6 (about same waiting time of 12 months, got mine after 8 month which earlier was ‚normal‘ also for Germans not on stock cars. The Kia is exactly what we wanted and since May 2022 part of our fleet. The handling is on par with most BMW M-Sports made up by Albert Biermann who headed that division for 30 years. The design from Karim Habib is outstanding from the now boring SUV crowd for Nokia and Motorola users. So we are definitely owning an exclusive care to be compared with early Pininfarina Ferrari and famous Lancia. This is something for consisseurs that have had all kind of nice cars and it makes fun not only on straight roads and there is no noise whatsoever and space like in an S-class Mercedes but at one third of the price!😎🇨🇭

When our house lost power for almost two days I reversed the plugging in by using the inverter and running and extension cord to my refrigerator. Even at 50% the battery would last weeks of only powering the fridge.

The 5N will not have 350 miles of range either. I got the EV6 GT as I don't care too much about range. I live in N Cali so the weather is super nice. I don't have to deal with the cold. If I'm not driving like crazy then I could get around 250 miles city driving. I do want to swap out my rims and tires to 19" instead for more range eventually. Honestly if I could get 250 miles of highway driving then I'm good. This is the amount of miles I could take before I have to take a break. 😊 Love your channel btw. ❤ I didn't know you owned an EV until now. Btw I got the GT instead of the 5N cause it has more features that I wanted in a car like an opening sunroof and rear heated seats. I could care less about the rear shades as I'm planning to tint the back darker anyways. 😊

You have hit the mark several times! No one is ramping up car manufacturing because they are all losing money except BYD and Tesla! Right? Until these companies can control costs along with their supply chain things will not change. But they will change! ❤️❤️❤️

Owning it, driven more than 60 k KM. I must admit that I never had a better car before. Had not a single issue (fail). The problem is the price and the delayed production. In France, I was able to buy an LR RWD mid trim EV6 (early buyer, the car was delivered during december 2021) for only 38400€ VAT included. The price was only for pros. The non pro price was more about 47k €. That was a very good deal. Today, I'd have to pay 16000 € more, for the exact same car. That's a shame. Kia dealers barely have demo cars in the showroom, trying to sell something else... The ride is fantastic, the leg room is the same as in a large limousine (back seats). No apparent degradadtion, really good range, really good tires (Nexen, changed at 60 000km in the back, still running the originals front tires) amazing charging performance that kills Audi, Tesla and VW drivers at Ionity HPC stations and even a lot of improvement provided by kia during those 15 months own. Was able to drive 800km in one day, easily. Was able to tow a small folding caravan too, and drive 240km with a fully loaded car, and be able to arrive at 40% SOC at destination. I was very impressed. The infotainment should be far better, but if you're looking for a really really good car to drive, the EV6 is the one. Is Kia losing money like Ford or VW do on each sell? Don't know, but it is a shame that Hyundai/Kia Cie, one of the EV pioneers is doing it this way. What is the plan?
@jamesthompson7282
@jamesthompson7282 Жыл бұрын
"Is Kia losing money like Ford or VW do on each sell?" Every EV manufacturer not called Tesla is losing thousands on the sale of every EV they make. That'd include Hyundai/Kia. Those two firms may in fact be closest to producing at break-even but it isn't clear: they don't break out production costs by model & their financials are beyond opaque: Korean accounting requirements aren't the same as US ones & large Korean firms (Hyundai & Samsung especially) wield considerable political clout, may well be circumventing such rules as exist. Probably not as big a risk for foreign investors as China but definitely not comparable to EU or N America (neither of which are perfect, though). Ford has finally admitted it loses $60K on the sale of every Mustang EV. Its experience is probably indicative of the rest. BYD claims it only loses $5K/EV, but Chinese financial reporting is considerably more opaque & unreliable than anywhere else (including Korea), so we shouldn't put too much stock in their published figures. If losing money on every EV they build we shouldn't be surprised that EV manufacturers aren't scaling production fast. First step is to figure out how to design & construct an EV that CAN be built for a profit. THEN they need to figure out how to actually scale production, recognizing that profits will only come with volume. So, 1) EV manufacturers will be - for some time - producing short-run EVs to establish that they're doing SOMETHING, and to retain what market share they can. But since these will be short-run models built on the journey to figure out EV design & production, their buyers will find they've purchased experiments that won't be well-supported by dealers & manufacturers - assuming both dealers & manufacturers survive. 2) EV manufacturers can't compete financially with Tesla until they are producing in similar volumes. Tesla is relentlessly pushing down cost of production per Wright's Law. Other manufacturers will have to follow suit. 3) Competitors are NOT going to be able to catch up with Tesla. That last claim needs an explanation. In a normal market, if one competitor gets the leap on the rest & is able to produce at lower cost, they tend eventually to simply adsorb increased profits (which then get passed on to owner/shareholders & employees). For example, Mars is infinitely more profitable than Hershey, but it doesn't keep growing & growing, it has long ago settled down into enjoying its profits & maintaining market share. P&G is significantly more profitable than its rivals, but that simply means shareholders do well. Apple continues to grow but profits (well above market standard) are now passed back to shareholders in dividends & buy-backs. In all the industries referenced there are high-profit & low-profit competitors. Tesla has no intention of following standard practice. It isn't in business to generate profits, to produce dividends or provide stock buy-backs to investors. It aims to be profitable to achieve the Mission. The Mission was published in 2006: www.tesla.com/blog/secret-tesla-motors-master-plan-just-between-you-and-me#:~:text=So%2C%20in%20short%2C%20the%20master,an%20even%20more%20affordable%20car Tesla exists to change energy use, reducing fossil fuel use by the human race. One third of fossil fuel use powers transportation; one third powers utility electricity generation. Tesla's EVs will promote electricity to fuel transportation; its residential solar products & utility power storage products will reduce fossil fuel use in utility power generation. Tesla hasn't departed from the published Plan since 2006. It won't. That means it will keep relentlessly driving down the cost of transportation, first by continuously reducing the purchase price of EVs (which it has done) & second by reducing the overall size of the EV market (per capita) by introducing robotaxis and running a world-wide taxi service, so fewer people will purchase a car at all. None of this is good for the competition. Tesla won't drop the price to buy market share, then just milk it for profit. If they did that, other manufacturers could eventually catch up. Meanwhile they'd make less profit than Tesla but perhaps survive. Tesla won't stop dropping the price, which means competitors face a Sisyphean task: by the time they catch up with where Tesla was in 2020 (by 2025), Tesla will be light years ahead in production & selling cars for even less. Tesla isn't trying to crush the competition. Musk has bent over backwards to help them: published his Plan & strategy back in 2006; been quite open & transparent about it since. Encouraged competitors to use his Patents, saying Tesla wouldn't stop anyone from using its IP. Encouraged battery manufacturers to produce Tesla's own 4680 batteries for competitors (provided supply to Tesla doesn't suffer). He's even directly advised Boards of Directors of competitors (eg. VW) when given the chance. Tesla has no incentive to crush competitors. The firm is growing as fast as it can. Its goal is to change energy use planet-wide: it can't do that on its own. It'll accomplish this Mission in part by encouraging other firms to follow suit. Not Tesla's problem if they can't, or won't. Until now it is obvious that they wouldn't. Now they've (finally) realized if they don't follow Tesla they're toast. It remains to be seen how many will be able (at this late date) to follow Tesla successfully. If they fail (most will) then new firms will take their place. Market demand will be there. It's highly unlikely most existing car manufacturers will be. ___________________ Pleased to hear about your experience with Kia's EV. I put considerably more faith in Kia/Hyundai surviving than any of the Japanese manufacturers (& I'm a very satisfied Subaru owner). If any of them survive I'd bet it'll be Hyundai. But I wouldn't bet money on it. Problem is, ANY car buyer is betting money on the outcome of the current market struggle. And a car is the second-largest purchase most people ever make (house mortgage is #1). At least a mortgage purchases something that (you hope) will appreciate over time: you're unlikely to lose money on it. A car is a depreciating asset, you lose no matter what.

@@jamesthompson7282 Ford has just another problem over here e.g. Switzerland. They have cars in stock nobody wants. It makes a difference when Hyundai/Kia/Genesis are considered. The Ioniq 5 you get around 6 mo, the GV60 in about 4 to 8 mo and the Kia EV6 between 6 to 12 mo. Flexible customers can get these car up to the GT without too much delay and about same to mostly others. Just Tesla can shorter now from Gruenheide. But Mach-e Model 2022 you get in 10 days. With all German brands, Polestar/Volvo, Aiways, MG the situation is very similar. So hard to say if it’s Ukrainian war, China‘s battery supplies or real financial problems. Fact is that also in most markets ICE stock is important also now after China wants the Euro 7-Norm. All ICE still hope together with big oil to change wind for some time. All these strategies are more or less politically motivated but transition takes place and some will be winners and others losers! China however is over all in bad shape economically and Russia will not safe all of their production. But they fully replaced EU brands. So the cards will be newley mixed and we will see by 2030 who still is on board. Tesla for sure because their business is not really cars. So this is the only company using batteries from at least four companies now including structural packs from BYD. Their ‚masterplan‘ is from another planet! Today only at Hyundai group, NIO, Geely and BYD I see a similar level of motivation, so let us see what happens! 🤔

The main issue with the KIA EV6 GT is actually finding one as you stated. My son was very fortunate and the dealer, here in Adelaide, had the RWD version in black. Not cheap, but goodness me - this is a ripper of a car and a head turner on the road. Beautifully appointed, very comfortable and it drives extremely smooth with power to spare. A lot of thought has gone into this EV. I do agree - more need to be produced because every batch sells out. It is the perfect car to transition into, if this is your first EV - on the inside, it is very reminiscent of a conventional ICE car - except you feel like your in a space craft cock pit. An awesome effort 👍

I've had my AWD Wind since April 2022, absolutely live the car. Last month I sold my Porsche Boxster BECAUSE I NEVER DRIVE IT NOW! Crazy! This EV6 is the best car I've ever owned. Equal parts luxury car and sports (GT) car. I drove almost all of its competitors before driving it, and bought on that same day - even paid a premium, which I'd never done. Viking is correct on relative scarcity. I live in the DMV (DC metro area) with some of the richest communities in the country (saw a Rolls Royce Wraith next to me on my way to buy my dogs food yesterday, and I see literally 1 a quarter in this area. I don't know anyone else who has one, while my neighbor to the left has a tesla and to the right the Mercedes EQS. Strange maybe Kias strategy was to build it out as a compliance car. I heard they lose money on each one sold. Glad I bought it.

I picked up my EV6 GT-Line back in January, and I can't believe how much I love this car. I've got so many compliments from random people wanting to know what kind of KIA this is! I feel like the Hyundai cars got way more press and attention from the vehicle press, and so that may have helped depress sales. I'm quite certain that the real problem here, is the long delivery period. I've read a lot of posts on SoMe, where a lot of people actually have ordered a EV6, but cancelling the order due the extremely long delivery time. That's the only reason. Most of the people actually wants a EV6 the most, but often they turn their eyes to Tesla instead, who delivers in 14 days. So, it's not because the EV6 doesn't have a huge sale potential - Kia sadly just can't deliver.

Early adopters always want t new one. I bought a 2022 Kia EV6 Wind AWD with 18,000 miles last month. It has the tech package. I love it!. This original sticker price was $55,000 US. I paid $35,000. So forget the tax rebate, I saved $20,000 and it looks like new. The software update makes it identical to the 2024 model. l. Level two charger in my garage brings it from 20 to 80 percent in 4 hours, but I only have to charge it once a week. Only minus is that we are in 0 degrees F. temperatures now in Minnesota, so getting 2.3 miles / kwh. Can't wait for summer and take this fun car on the road!

Like most brands, the early models are supposed to be technology demonstrators, to prove that they are up to the challenge, and to stop their customers going away to other brands, but until they can get their supply chains set up, these will be simply for show and they will make a loss on each and every one. The assumption is that the loses will be overshadowed by the brand awareness.

Absolutely agree with you but the story of compliance car is not true for any market. Kia is just in production hell like Elon once said and they will ramp up production when markets are calming down somewhat, now it’s a hype to get one first and that already started with iPhone and Tesla. Here in Switzerland you can get even GTs in around 6 to 12 months. I ordered my EV6 AWD Wind all in, just without sunroof and Meridian Soundsystem in september 2021 and got it may 2022. Now after 12‘000 km with every profile in, the car used 17,4 kWh on 100 km and I have been on track days for tyre testing. Absolutely no problems neither in cold weather and snow. It shows the drivability of former M-Sports BMW what is due to Albert Biermann who headed the division for 30 years. And also first time in a German autotest the Kia completely burnt the all new Audi Q4 E-Tron Sportback by far. You must know that Auto Motor Sport is kind of ‚in-house‘ newspaper to Volkswagen group and always found ways to have a German ‚winner‘! You should also know that I owned mostly German ‚Premium‘ for 54 years and the Kia was the first that in one year was only 30 Minutes at a service center to change wheels. Hope now only on some improved software for charge planning similar to Tesla and that is all. The rest is just sensational TCO and absolutely no noises from drivetrain. Very spacious interior in its class and better than an EQE350, costing three times as much with all in. 800 Volts system and fast charging at up to 240 kWh (Tesla MY now 250 and Porsche Taycan 270 kWh). Measured power higher than promised with 333 PS and 608 Nm and 5,0 Seconds to 100 km and it corners like a smaller sportscar. It’s absolutely fun and only the GT (585 PS) or Ioniq 6 could top it. It’s for me also different from Tesla in things that are very important to me, but I am a shareholder of TESLA anyhow. So fanboys have to accept that I just liked the absolutely gorgeous design from Karim Habib more and the car reminds me to ones of my favorite classic cars when boring SUV boxes where not known yet and cars had ‚fluid‘ forms. It’s the heritage of some of the best from Pininfarina, Ferrari, Lancia, Alfa-Romeo Montreal, Jaguar E-Type and also some remarkable BMW. I live in a regional town in NSW somehow I see two ev 6’s quite regularly which when given how relatively few EVs there are around here 2 Tesla model 3s, 2 MG ZS EVs (I’m one of the MG owners) 1 BYD and 2 EV 6s (one I know is owned by a bloke in town) is not an insubstantial number and when talking with one of the owners apparently the wait list is 6-7 months. So it doesn’t appear to be doing too badly.

Very interesting... I have a EV6 GT on order, it was expected to be delivered mid 24, and it's already here, the dealer doesn't know why it's so quick ! Funny thing is that I currently have an I-Pace, and now that the EV6 GT is there, I have to sell it... and of course as you said, no one wants an I-Pace now. So I'll probably end up cancelling the GT and keeping my I-Pace, strange times to try to buy a car :o

As someone purchased an EV6 last month in the US, I can see some additional things here that is hurting it. The first being the perception of kia/hyundai vehicles being easy to steal. Given the kia boys viral challenge. The other is that it seems the government is targeting these certain tesla competitors with the tax credit requirements. It's really a shame. But I do feel like I'm in an exclusive club though.

Driving one of these truly does feel at least a tinge special. I can anecdotally attest to this video: to this day, having had my EV6 for it's third year, never seen a like model in my city and of the ones I have seen, one might've been a one-time occurrence, as I saw that car at the local hospital and never once again. Likewise, the other EVs seem to be a plentiful around here. I can count on seeing at least half a dozen Ford Mach-E's. Similar number of I.D.4's. And the number of Tesla M3 and MY's are even further staggering. What's peculiar is that the EV6 is better than the Mach-E in many ways. They're quicker (albeit the horsepower numbers wouldn't depict that), they're cheaper, they have 1-pedal driving and they get more range and they charge exponentially faster on CCS+ . Call me biased, but I also think they're far better looking, too. Mach-E looks like what your high school football team captain looks like 20 years later. People really slept on this car and many went out and paid the same money or more, for worse options. I think the reason the sales figures and production numbers dropped IS due in part to the fact that yes, they don't technically qualify for the $7500 tax credit given that they aren't manufactured here in the USA. After being handed that handicap by the U.S. federal government, it makes sense for Kia to have slowed in sales/production or both.

Have to say that we love it and all the tech features which is saying something for being in our 60’s! It’s the most fun we’ve had to drive, we only wish we sat up a little higher like a regular SUV. For only this reason, we may look at trading it in for the EV9 when they are being built here in the US so it hopefully will qualify for the tax incentives/rebate. We do love that you don’t see many on the road like you do Tesla’s so it’s a unique experience for sure. There's only one thing that has kept the EV6 selling like crazy is cost. Bring the GT line (not the GT itself) cost down to the US $40,000 area to compete with the lower cost Model Y, and it'll sell like hotcakes. Okay, there's actually a second: both the EV6 and the high price (for the low range) E-Pace have a massive handicap vs Tesla -- dealers. Take those out of the picture and it's a different story.

Hyundai sold about 23K Ionic 5s in the US last year, that's not completely embarrassing but it's certainly underwhelming. Maybe they are prioritizing Hyundai's over Kia. It would be interesting to know what the real reason for them producing so few is. Is their cost of production way too high for them to make a profit. Are Korean battery manufacturers incapable of supplying their needs. It certainly hasn't been smooth sailing for LG, after their fiasco with both Hyundai and Chevy perhaps they are unwilling to make further investments in battery production.

Hyundai & Kia need to stop buying batteries from Korean companies and start getting them from CATL or BYD. The EV 6 GT line here in Australia is AU$88k drive away (Inc all taxes etc). Compare that to the Model Y SR which is AU$74k drive away. The Tesla is a no brainer, even if it is ugly, and the interior looks like is was designed by the children of IKEA workers. First off there is only one factory for the whole world that makes the ev6 so world wide supply is understandably low. Had my 2022 ev6 AWD with tech package and love it in every way, charging, acceleration, ride quality, and so good looking. I had to pay $5000 over sticker. It did include a level2 charger, all-weather mats, window tint, and life long free maintenance. There are several Kia dealers in the Phoenix area that have EV6s in stock but are still trying to rape their customers over sticker price, and with the tax break gone unless you lease this is probably one reason sales have slowed down not because the car isn’t in demand. Kia needs to do what Ford is doing with their greedy dealers and shut that crap down. I’m not sure what compliance means but I see several on the roads in my area and once their factory is up and running in the US that will loosen up the supply.

The price will go down when it starts producing in the U.S. The IRA bill and the de-Chineseization of battery materials are complicatedly intertwined, making it difficult for Hyundai and Kia to cut prices easily.. According to a Korean KZbinr, the Chinese car seems to be copying Hyundai-Kia's E-gmp platform. They tried to copy Tesla at first, but they failed and unlike Tesla, they began copying E-gmp, a modular format. In fact, Hyundai-Kia's E-gmp parts and Chinese car platforms that are copying E-gmp have the same bolt location and part shape. Kia EV6: "As rare as hen's teeth." What makes this one of the best EVs ever manufactured? "Never intended to be mass produced." So, deliberately created to be a dead model? From a manufacturer likely doomed: so doomed to be an orphan product, with no dealers to support it. From a manufacturer that refused to support the building of fueling stations? Do you want to purchase a car that won't become a mass market product? Do you want to purchase a car from a company that won't be around to support it? That won't have dealers to support it (if they could even get parts, which they won't)? That can't easily be recharged on the road once you run out of charge from home? So what makes a "great" product - EV or anything else? Surely this definition would have to include whether it can be maintained, supported, used to drive any reasonable distance without a refueling crisis? My old Microsoft/Nokia smartphone had the best camera on the market & an operating system UI that I loved. A battery that wouldn't quit. It rocked. Was it a terrific product? Well, no one wanted to support the phone's OS with applications. Without apps the phone was dead commercially. Microsoft killed the product & took a $5B write-down on it's balance sheet. A "best ever" product that isn't widely adopted, isn't even designed to be produced & sold in volume, isn't going to be supported & can't be easily fueled: that isn't a "best ever" product at all.

I can see Kia's strategy. Learn how to design EVs, but don't make many of them until EVs would really make a profit for them. Look at Ford. They did the opposite. They made all these EVs where they lose a lot on each. I think Toyota is thinking the same way as Kia. They will make EVs when the market is really there to warrant a huge factory and scale where they make a profit. Till then, let Testa and BYD be king over there since they are the only ones doing it in scale.

That is really bad logic. Why? Learning is a continuous process. They won't have a great product at their first attempt. It takes time to refine and make improvement. This takes years. When you can get the ideal charge speeds, which is fairly consistent if the charge network is not having issues at that location or charger is great for long trips. I logged about 28,000 miles in year 1 so as you can guess that charge speed was high on my priority list. It is comfortable and easy to do long drives. It has ample space for people and items. Tech is good, but nowhere near what Tesla has, especially when it comes to updates. It does have a better service/dealer network just because they are there, but it is clear to me they really don’t have knowledge of the vehicle, so how much their numbers help is questionable. It has way better looks than the Tesla in my opinion. The Model Y is a bit larger, but not by much. The EV6 is way more sleek. If you are looking, do what works best for your lifestyle and enjoy whatever you are able to get your hands on.

What Sam really meant to say was that 80% of cars in Norway sold in 2022 were BEV's (not 80% of the cars on the road). He's human, and makes mistakes...

At one time, and on certain models I would agree, however Kia has really stepped it up.
