Tamako Market is the anime equivalent of coming home after a long trip. Soothing, relaxing and calming. Watching it was like a hug from my best friend, or a letter from someone I haven't talked to in years telling me something awesome happened to them.

One bittersweet aspect of Tamako Market is the fact that neighborhood shotengai (shopping streets/alleys) are slowly dying out in Japan due to urbanization and competition from big box stores (See Sakura Quest, another great iyashikei series). On a positive note, HiDive just got Non Non Biyori Vacation movie to cheer you right back up.

I want to do my best to be a person like Tamako - with her positive and caring attitude and power to touch the lives of those around her in really positive way. I want to be a person who can invite others to be themselves like that. It's probably impossible for someone like me to come anywhere close to that, but it's something worth striving towards. There were two moments that broke my heart while watching this show...the first when Tamako recalls the last time the shopping arcade closed early, and the second when she quietly screams her anger about everyone wanting her to leave. It was so sad seeing someone who is always upbeat and positive breaking down like that, and even when she does she is still so considerate of others that she screams quietly so as to not wake others. That scene hit me hard as it felt like the real world of ours breaking through in to their perfect world. It's a brilliant shows and I'm glad you explained the origins of it as the tone was one thing I found a bit weird going in to it. It could easily have been a normal slice of life story without the Dera storyline and I didn't really understand why they included something like that which played a big part in the show but wasn't really necessary at all.

Now after that day i am suffering a way worse depression and anger , i am so ashamed of myself because i went back to that dark place, i am not smiling all day like i used to because that incident broke me from inside and i should change that . They inspired me to believe in happiness and i am disappoing them with my attitude. I must be better for them.

my mom had depression when i was around 12, she wouldn't sleep, wouldn't eat, she barely talked to me and after years of going to therapy/doctor she got better. now i'm 21 and she is way much better and with life in her eyes but sometimes, there are days when her sadness comeback and it's totally ok! with time i learned that depression is not going to go away the same way as it came, you are going to have good days and bad days and that doesn't mean you are not progressing. you are doing great and you are going to get better eventually so don't feel discouraged. i wish you all the best!

It's when we are struggling that we can benefit the most from a helping hand. Don't be too hard on yourself. I don't know if it'll help here, but what helps me come back is to focus outward & try to help others. It can give a great sense of accomplishment & you can take pride in being a part of your community. Another alternative is to revisit shows that bring you joy or nostalgia, like your favorite movie as a child. Your feelings are important too, sometimes they need a little nurturing.
@weebwithadream8260
@weebwithadream8260 4 жыл бұрын
Don't say that. You haven't disappointed anyone. These anime, and the people that created them, wanted to create things that would inspire, and bring joy to others, all the while driving home an important message they believed was important to convey. You were inspired by them. But you shouldn't let inspiration make you think like you owe it to them to get better. That's not what they would want. To quote Jack from another video: "Stop living to what's expected of you, live to yourself." You aren't a bad person for being in a dark place. Don't put yourself down, because I know you are capable of so much more than you know.

As someone who grew up very similarly to Tamako, in a small town where everyone knows my family, I relate mostly to her. Whenever things don’t feel as good as I would want them to be, I remember all the times I grew to cherish my town‘s community so much and the hope that I will feel like this again some day makes me feel much better. Tamako Market made me treasure and appreciate what I have, even if I move away, even if things change, the memory and feeling of experiencing it will stay forever. Wow this video really made me realize why I seem to like so many KyoAni shows where it feels like nothing’s actually going on in terms of traditional plot. It’s because the studio is so good at depicting daily life and human interactions that make sense and bring their characters to life. I saw it in Tamako with shiori’s struggles to find her place in a tight knit group, in a silent voice with the psychology behind why Ueno bullied Shoko, in K on with Azusa struggling with the identifying her feelings when she realized her senpai were all going to graduate, and so many other moments in their shows. These shows don’t need any grand plots of deep philosophy to be great because they do these simple aspects of the human experience so well, and that’s why we all love them despite many calling them bland or boring

The talking bird was a little jarring at first and they could have dropped the magical talking bird altogether and just kept the market interaction and the everyday life of the townsfolk. I finished the last episode like 4 minutes ago and it was so uplifting, like everything was lighthearted and I feel like things like the quotes could be applied in real life since they're so true. There were two quotes that reminded me of another video of yours, the first one was "Mido-chan. I feel like I'm standing on the edge of space too." and the second was "I don't want to change. Tamako Market is lovely. Tamako Love Story is even more wonderful. My wife and I have been within a few blocks of Denmachiyanagi Shopping District -- but that was several years before we saw Tamako Market (only this year). This little corner of Kyoto gets plenty of anime attention -- also Eccentric Family, Tatami Gallery and Night Is Long, Walk on Girl. When we finally have a chance to return to Kyoto, I think we will need to return to the area around Denmachiyanagi. ;-)

I watched this anime last year. Didn't really understand why I loved it and kept watching it. It felt like so much and depth has been put into the production compared to other series similar to it. I barely knew about kyoaani until the tragedy happened. I read up on it and sure enough I could gather bits and pieces on why I love their works. The people who worked on them are not just doing their job for the sake of it but also enjoying it and learning from it. So far I think kyoani is the only studio that puts care to their staff and not just the art their creating.

Tamako market is one of my comfort shows, I rewatched it a couple times when I was feeling bad lol. I love that there is no antagonist, everything is nice and calm which is doing wonders for my anxiety😂

Yamada-senpai is easily my favorite director and it's not even close for me. She's without question a generational talent. She's the director I dream of being in every sense of word. Thank you for making Tamako Market a priority on my watch list now, because I still need to watch it.

@@mrniesguy3111 It's so hard to pick favorites with KyoAni. So many gems. Clannad, Violet Evergarden, Hyouka, K-ON, Hibike: Euphonium, A Silent Voice, Liz And The Blue Bird, etc. 😭

Watching Tamako Market and Sakura Quest, you see two forms of optimism in a similar setting. One a bustling market street, the other a declining downtown market street long past it's prime. PA works and Kyoani both similarly showcase the human spirit to create a found family and welcoming community. That optimism can come from anywhere. You just have to look and fight for it. Sidenote, the character designer for Sakura Quest is the brother of Yukiko Horiguchi!

What a wonderful rendition of "Ue o Muite Arukou" at the end! Really tied the video together and helped me feel, dare I say it, quite optimistic ^^ When things start looking down, let's look up while we walk.
