Everything that once cheap or discarded like oysters, salmon, and lobster now turned luxurious and expensive. And something that in the old times were expensive like chicken now became cheap and very accessible.

@paintedbird6791

@@whatdidisay564 That's what you think. Cooked Oysters???, you are talking about Oysters in Chinese restaurants. The Koreans eat their oysters mostly raw. "Cheaper hygiene cost" you are very funny. Koreans call and market oyster as oysters. They don't give appellation to oysters so they can charge ten times. People don't know it is not the oysters but, sea water inside of oysters that gives out special flavors.

Yeah just like now companies are hoping on the Asian skincare craze. Asian skincare used to be cheap but effective. Now western companies are using what Asians have been doing for years and up charging consumers as a luxe product.

Oyster farming really has very few critics and those who do usually aren’t aware of how it’s done. Not only are the practices and presence of the oysters good for the waters, the required habitat has oyster farmers actively protecting these areas from pollution and development.

@knpark2025

Indeed. Oyster farming doesn't pollute the ocean. More precisely, it can't, categorically. Oysters are filter feeders, and polluting the ocean they grow on is to taint the very product that feeds on the water. So much so that some cities with a huge oyster industry will spam public bathrooms all over the place to stop passersby from "doing their business" in the sea.

I have to get them preopened or canned. In my city we have oyster fests once a year. The local community come together in one spot to eat. Not sure about the other countries but here in Norway you can go and pick them up in the shallow water for free. For the purpose of sanitary, make sure that they’re living in clear water and the area is somewhere with a low rate of human activity. Despite the few times when some of them weren’t safe to eat due to environmental issues, All of the oysters from the places I’ve visited were edible.

I ate half a dozen Loch Fyne oysters last weekend. 2 straight-up, 1 with a wasabi+cucumber+mirin seasoning, 1 with red wine vinegar+ shallots, and 2 with Tabasco mixed with a tiny bit of agave nectar of all things. They were all fantastic. But I have to say that the tobasco one was my favourite. It had everything- the lovely saltiness and amazing flavour of the oyster, paired with heat and sourness from the tobasco, and a very subtle sweetness from the added agave nectar. Loch Fyne and other Atlantic oysters (and ones from the North Sea, and i suppose it's technically the Hebridean sea with the Loch Fyne oysters) taste different from one's I've had in the US, even on the east coast. They taste sweeter in the US, and a LOT sweeter on the West Coast. One is not better than the other, they're just different, and all so good in their own ways.

If You're foreigner in south korea, Go to costco during winter season. Dec ~ Feb. You can grab 500g 코스트코 봉지 굴(oyster flesh in salt water filled plastic bag) cost barely 7~7.5$ USD. No need to dispose half shell. No rip-off price. Top tier freshness. It's just perfect as raw. Also deep fry, soup,BBQ grilled etc. Cold water temperature during winter season & west region of korea mudflat offer great organic matter. Plus, If summer season had long period of heavy rain for extra organic matter... That's best year for oyster.
