@@whatdidisay564 That's what you think. Cooked Oysters???, you are talking about Oysters in Chinese restaurants. The Koreans eat their oysters mostly raw. "Cheaper hygiene cost" you are very funny. People don't know it is not the oysters but, sea water inside of oysters that gives out special flavors.

Oyster farming really has very few critics and those who do usually aren’t aware of how it’s done. Not only are the practices and presence of the oysters good for the waters, the required habitat has oyster farmers actively protecting these areas from pollution and development.

@knpark202511 ай бұрын
Indeed. Oyster farming doesn't pollute the ocean. More precisely, it can't, categorically. Oysters are filter feeders, and polluting the ocean they grow on is to taint the very product that feeds on the water. So much so that some cities with a huge oyster industry will spam public bathrooms all over the place to stop passersby from "doing their business" in the sea.

In korea, they cost about 18$ per kg (without shells). I never thought oyster was a pricey food.

2 dollars one small pail of oysters here in the Philippines. I cannot wrap my head around why other countries are making the process of oyster farming unnecessarily complex. Anyways, enjoy your absurdly expensive oysters.

Well, if Philippine oysters were as good as other famous oysters it would be well known globally.

You're rejoicing over the small pail of oysters, but philippine oysters are tiny and dirty with sand inside of them (the tiny gritty one and usually they are full of them :') ). I know, cos I've tried them but I don't know if the taste changed or not. I'm also living in the philippines.

I ate half a dozen Loch Fyne oysters last weekend. 2 straight-up, 1 with a wasabi+cucumber+mirin seasoning, 1 with red wine vinegar+ shallots, and 2 with Tabasco mixed with a tiny bit of agave nectar of all things. They were all fantastic. But I have to say that the tobasco one was my favourite. It had everything- the lovely saltiness and amazing flavour of the oyster, paired with heat and sourness from the tobasco, and a very subtle sweetness from the added agave nectar. Loch Fyne and other Atlantic oysters (and ones from the North Sea, and i suppose it's technically the Hebridean sea with the Loch Fyne oysters) taste different from one's I've had in the US, even on the east coast. They taste sweeter in the US, and a LOT sweeter on the West Coast. One is not better than the other, they're just different, and all so good in their own ways.

I used to feel that way years ago. My mom ordered oysters once when we were on a trip. I didn’t like them. But as I got older, I had the urge to try them again and again. Now I love them. I have them at the local all you can eat sushi restaurant near my house. I’m just fortunate I can now enjoy them.

If You're foreigner in south korea, Go to costco during winter season. Dec ~ Feb. You can grab 500g 코스트코 봉지 굴(oyster flesh in salt water filled plastic bag) cost barely 7~7.5$ USD. No need to dispose half shell. No rip-off price. Top tier freshness. It's just perfect as raw. Also deep fry, soup,BBQ grilled etc. Cold water temperature during winter season & west region of korea mudflat offer great organic matter. Plus, If summer season had long period of heavy rain for extra organic matter... That's best year for oyster.

You're probably being served blue point oysters or maybe ones from the San Francisco Bay area as both are mediocre in taste. Kumamotos from Puget Sound, Seattle taste really good as do Massachusetts varieties...Island Creek are my favorite from there!

I’ve had these before, a suggestion I personally have is always order P.E.I when you’re in the mood for them. They are grown on a string is certain places, so they have no sand in them as a result. Also ask for smaller ones as their taste is saltier and often about %25 less.
