Very fine analysis, sir. I'm from Pakistan, and whenever I feel the need to gain the Indian perspective on bilateral issues, yours is one of the few channels I know would be every bit worth the time. In an age of emotive nationalisms and senseless bashing of eachother, a calm and considered analysis is as rare as it is refreshing. There are a couple of points where I think you could use a bit more nuance. The middle tiers of Pakistan Army are not as radicalised as you implied, and for good reason too. There is hardly a Company in any Regiment which has not lost atleast one officer fighting the Taliban. Any officer who passed out from Kakul post 9/11 has been on the front line against terrorism, everyone has lost batch mates. It would be interesting for you to realize that the Majors who led their units in the erstwhile FATA have now become Major Generals. They have seen radicals upclose. Believe me they have no stomach for Islamic Radicalism. Similarly, there are other points where you've not completely succeeded in understanding the thought process in Rawalpindi/ Islamabad, but of course every lens has its own distortion and why should yours be any different? Kudos, sir, for an analysis well made.
@ahmedakhan13 жыл бұрын
I am from Pakistan and I agree with your comments. Shekhar Gupta has done a good analysis. He is right, of course, that it is not possible for either India or Pakistan to seize any part of each other's territory. Pakistan is having economic problems now but it still has a very powerful army and air force and will be no walkover. Furthermore, both countries have nuclear weapons and any conflict could escalate out of control with disastrous results for all. Economic conditions of nations can change very quickly, India's own economy was a poorly performing one just a few years ago. For a long time Banagladesh was written off as a basket case, today it is the best performing economy in South Asia. CPEC and further close economic relations with China will pay off for Pakistan in the future. Shekhar, as an Indian has his national biases. He mentioned China's so callled "debt trap strategy," which is nothing but mostly US propaganda. I would refer to an article in a highly respected US publication, The Atlantic, dated February 6, 2021, titled "The Chinese Debt Trap Is a Myth," which demolishes this charge.

@@SK-he2eq I suggest that you check out the article. "The Chinese Debt Trap Is a Myth," in The Atlantic, a highly respected American publication, dated February 6, 2021. This demolishes the charge of the so called "Chinese Debt Trap," and examines in great detail the case of Humbantota port in Sri Lanka and the misinformation, deliberate or otherwise, surrounding it. Another point I would make is that Pakistan's debt to China is only 15 percent of its total external debt. Of much more concern is Pakistan's debt to western commercial institutions, which accounts for 10 percent, but much more costly to service as all of it is at commercial rates.

And clearly the end of Pakistan’s international isolation- engineered very successfully by India and supported by the Nawaz regime. But then I saw all the comments of your readers, and I totally get it. The average Indian is now itching for a war, good job RSS-BJP. The Pakistanis may have blundered outright blatantly supported terrorism, but what of India? India hasn’t done any less either. So sadly, very sadly I don’t see any attempt to actually understand and “clearing the clutter” or of brave truthfulness. Don’t see a bright future for this region sadly. A true tragedy. There could have been such positivity and growth. But India will pull the whole region down with it - good luck with dealing as a trusted most allied member of the US quad against China. See how they treated Pakistan - messed with her politics, her democracy, her psyche and left it totally addicted and on life support. It’s recovering very gradually but will take another generation to come out. Learn from Pakistan’s follies, and don’t fall in the same sewer. But I am sure this will fall in deaf and indignant ears. And yet I wish India and Indians all the very best. Don’t and can’t see them as enemies. Just as brothers in culture/ language traditions who are just lost in a world of hate of their own making.

Why is Shekhar putting the military strength of Pakistan in the same league as China and India, hardly the stuff of researched journalism. The only way to play along and talk peace but always be prepared for war. Any sign of weakness and there will be a repeat of Kargil or Mumbai. Overwhelming strength for India can only guarantee a somewhat lasting peace

The day this episode went on air on KZbin and this oldman was trying to tell Poor Indian that Pakistan is dieing for peace but now he must be ashamed because his Father Modi is dieing for peace too 😁😁

Modi is least bothered about peace with Pakistan. More modi fights with Pakistan better he gets votes at home.

We shall talk peace until the next pulwama or pathankot happens. Havent we seen this enough times.
@جاسممحمد-ه5ر7ط3 жыл бұрын
yes the next pulwama wil heppen if modi needs votes, your air force was abused for his election campaign, 45 innocent soldiers were killed, abhinandan got kicked another 6 soldiers were killed in that mi 17 hrlicopter which was hit by ur own forces, and then "modi won the election"

Focus on current economic development & growth in future if you get that strength that you can impose your will and this world is never fed up of war . They will love it until it's not going to burn them

I accept as Pakistani that India is more advanced then us. We want good relations with India. We want to remove anti India, anti Hindu elements from Pakistan and build south east union block like European Union. Let's build friendly relations that will benefit our region politically, economically, educationally, technologically, scientifically and culturally. We consider India as our original motherland since we were all one big country before partition. Besides most of Pakistanis ( punjab, Sindh, kashmir) have lineages that are same as our indian Hindu cousins since 1000 years ago approx our ancestors were Hindus. Look basically we are almost same as you in terms of culture, dress, food, traditions, superstitions, skills/ talent and mentality. We don't believe in war with India as long as India stops destabilising our provinces via RAW. look you are stronger then us and have better perception management, education systems and overall greater reputation on world forum compared to us. Guide us with true diplomacy, friendship and we can live side by side ( Co exist) despite our religious differences.

Seeing the comments Iam glad that the present generation of India are not willing to believe whatever is being served in their plate . My generation used to lap up everything what Pronoy Roy served in his World This Week with his loud tabala music. Definitely Indians have come out of that deep slumber induced by so called Father of rge Nation and his illegimate progeny Congress and ppl like this hypocrites
