Despite not wanting to speak Punjabi very much, the people in Lahore actually speak a much purer version, which is very clear. Punjabis in India speak a lot of different dialects. They are majnja, malwa and doaba. Amritsaris speak majhi which is same in Lahore.
@preetamsingh8575 Жыл бұрын
Clear (to your ears) doesn't mean pure. It means it is simplified, standardised, without a strong Punjabi accent, and more mixed with Hindi Urdu loan words. In the villages, apart from the slight bdialect differences, there is a strong accent and use of theth words, which makes it harder to understand to the average Hindi-Urdu speaker. The village Punjabi is purer.

I was shocked when I watched Pakistani dramas where they shows that only the servants were speaking Punjabi and the main characters speaking Urdu !!! I asked my self a question what is this ??? . It seems like Punjabi was demoted to a very low level , to creat a public hate to speak it !!! Then my Surprise to have encounter with a Pakistani family speaks Urdu at home and with their children !!! I get to know that Punjabi is not even included in educational system even . The couple told me that the parents discouraged their children to not speak Punjabi !!! My question why so much hate for the language whom their great grand parents were speaking in their daily lives!!! I never see the murder of a mother tongue by its own children with so much brutality !!! But I am so glad at my Sikh community we did everything to keep our mother alive !! Even if any Sikh is settled in other countries we have our Punjabi schools so we can teach our kids Punjabi . You can see Sikh children they have knowledge of English as well as Punjabi !!!

In 1947 Nawab Khizar Hayat Khan Tiwana wanted the United Punjab to become an independent country again as it was under Maharajah Ranjit Singh, but the British wouldn't entertain the idea and Tara Singh and Muslim Leaguers were busy spreading communal poison everywhere. Now we're trapped in the filth of 'India' and 'Pakistan', losing our language and identity, fighting each other for a piece of land, Kashmir, that belongs to another nation, and still not a free people after almost 1000 years of slavery.

I don't know anything about your family, but Khatris as a caste were shopkeepers and clerks (munshis) and did not own land. Jatts and Rajputs were the traditional landowners of Punjab, especially Jatts. But every Khatri in India now claims to have owned entire villages in West Punjab.
