Hi, I used to work in Architecture a few years ago. What helped us very often for projects is to understand the workflow of our clients, as well as the pitfalls of their current space. I would suggest you making a video/taking clear notes, going through how exactly everything works in your shop in terms of clients, repair staff spaces etc. Maybe take measurements of your larger storage furniture ( annotate if you want them larger by x amount) , - as well as machinery you need, and where it needs to be placed. The understanding of your workflow is crucial for a designer/ architect to plan out a tailored solution for you. From a design perspective, personally, I would not want to lock the repairstations away, but rather have them somewhere visible. Your business is a craft and people should see that as well ( at least partially). A certain transparency in literal terms symbolizes a professionalism on how you deal with peoples belongings and their personal data. Good luck for the restoration!
@tomhunter75365 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more, as a retired architect, the more information about the space use and flow of your work the better will be your final design. There is a real chance that you could improve on your general work flow and efficiency by doing, say an hour research at this stage could improve your business productivity for both staff and customers, which can translate into increased profits.

There are shitty engineers and doctors out there too... What really counts if someone likes what he/she is doing and becomes good at it. If certain ideas are so good, that they can be applied in other professions, like lets say to ross's repair shop, - then that is great for everyone involved.

Apple has absolutely nothing to do with taste and everything to do with people being brand dead sheeple followers who can't think for themselves. If you spend as much on a pc as you do on apple, the pc will be FAR superior EVERY TIME. because with apple, you are paying for the name. @rasmachris945 жыл бұрын
Best explained I think that other companies are so caught up with specs and trying to compete with eachother that they fail to consider the comfortability of the users experience. The thing is that people have primary and recency effects when it comes to memory. They remember the first thing and the last thing and a little inbetween. So when other companies dont provide a comfortable introduction to their laptop for the absurd price that laptops go for, people just feel like it's mediocre or standard. Then when something breaks only remember that it broke and the negative experience with customer service, trying to get it repaired or replaced and that's all stress that's remembered. When they buy a mac, they experience the snappy load times, the responsiveness and the great screen and great trackpad and it's unlike what they've experienced from other manufacturers because that time hasn't been taken into account since it's literally just another production line to them. Then when there is an issue down the line and they're looking to buy a new mac because it's broken [because it's a mac, of course it's broken], they look to buy another one. They have no reason to go towards cold mediocrity when they can go towards comfort and what they're familiar with and the most inviting and comforting laptop manufacturer, happens to be apple because they give a moments thought to user experience. Having said that they still price gouge and fuck over the consumer and repair shops and basically anyone who isn''t them as a company, but that brief moment of genuinely trying to create a great introductory experience is what sets them apart from other manufacturers.

Long text coming but... Easy question. The trackpad is so awesome. It makes working with it a charm. The multi-touch gestures albeit being a little new and weird, starts to grow on you and fit perfectly in yor workflow in no time. The build quality is awesome. Taking a Macbook with you just looks and feels nice. The hinges move so fluently. No need to hold the bottom part of the laptop to open up the top part and hear that annoying plastic grind on each other. The magnetic connector is just intuitive. No getting stuck on cable and pulling your whole notebook down. The screen brightness, color accuracy and viewing angle is just stunning. It makes searching for the correct wallpaper more fun. The OS is just thought out. No messy ui or blue screens just because something happened. It comes with Bootcamp. You want Windows? Go for it. There are all the apos i need for software development. All those bullshit about software not being available on mac is just that, for the most part bullshit. And even then there are mostly alternatives. Only very specific software is sometimes missing. The Ui is also very clean, the terminal works nice, quick view features and more. Those were the reasons i liked my Macbook Pro 2009. Coming from Windows Vista was like getting out of somebodies messy basement. I had a Sony Vaio, a Fujitsu or an Asus as a Laptop. 1000€ and up. All messy and crappy plastic garbage. Scrolling on that little trackpad was catastrophical, the screen (except for the Vaio) was cheap and Vista was Armageddon. Really, Vista was the whole reason i switched and i didn't even want to test Windows 7,i had ptsd. I put an SSD and more Ram into my Macbook and it still runs like a champ. That's also the reason why i don't buy any Macs anymore. If i wouldn't be able to change those i would've scraped my Macbook around 13/14. As long as there is no upgradebility, i will not buy any PC. Remember, back then how laptops used to be. People have the memory of a fish and tend to forget things. It's the same with phones and/or their packaging, cable design and more. Apple had big influence there. It doesn't matter them not being first, it matters them making it accessible. Now apple had changed. If for better or worse everybody has to decide for themselves. I don't like where they are going so i switched away. I'm not an ideolog or a fanboy as many in your comment section are, or the pc masterrace, i game at 4k, manchildren in Linus' videos. I will buy what suits me the most. Had the first iPhone 3g, switched to LG G3 back then, now i'm using a Huawei. I also have the iPad Pro and a PC i build myself. Using Linux Mint and Windows 10 rn. Who knows what i will use next year and tbh i don't even care. The point of people thinking "Mac's are fast" is so true. My sister knows nothing about computers but is a die hard Mac fangirl. I remember I was arguing with her about computers one day and despite me having a diploma in Computer Science she yelled "I have a mac, I know more about computers than you do." The argument? I tried telling her she doesn't need to use Google on her Mac and she can use literally any search engine and she didn't believe me.

I already have taste, it's why I don't use Apple products. While some of what they do is "right" - the negatives of what they are still topples that over by a wide margin. There are also still some phones that aren't phablet sized (which is the current trend) and are affordable - you just have to go out there and find it. I can easily google up a list of phones under 6 inches and some of the major phone makes have them: Sony, Samsung, LG, etc.

I'm a woman with tiny hands. I always appreciated how smaller iPhones fit well in my hand. I had iPhone from when it first released - however, in 2018 I switched for the first time over to Android because I couldn't justify buying an iPhone. And I wanted my headphone jack, let's be real, I'm never going to be able to use bluetooth for many reasons - fuck that, I love my normal headphones. I have three here and there at home, I'm bound to find one of them when I need them (I don't pay any attention to where I leave them). I bought OnePlus 6 which was their last one with a headphone jack. It's not useable with one hand for me, other than holding while talking on phone, I can completely forget about trying to type with one hand. I'm still very satisfied with the phone. But even a teeny tiny bit bigger than this I just couldn't be able to use it, this is definitely the absolute limit.

It's not about just seeing the obvious (that user experience defines the product success), it's about heavily investing into it. My friend recently bought a 2011 Mac Pro in 2019, I was very surprised and decided to spec-check it. And it has a 900 Mbps SSD! In 2011 500 Mbps is what comes to mind as an SSD, but Mac has SSD that's straight up 2 times faster. It's also true with their mobile APUs, with their mobile storage etc. You know what this allowed them to achieve? An iPhone has at least a 1 year headstart compared to any Android smartphone in terms of raw performance power, and an iPhone can have 2 Gb of RAM and work ust as fast as a 6 Gb Android just because its "SSD" storage is so fast and iOS is optimized to swap effeciently. Apple doesn't just put an SSD inside, they make sure the technology is top-notch for the time. That's what defines the good part of their business.

I was always a windows user from windows 3.0 all the way up to windows 10. I got my 1st Mac book about 3 years ago and I have to say, I like it better than any windows machine I have ever used. They've got a good set up maybe the product itself isn't up to par I don't know but I've had my machine and have had barely any issues with it. Just 1 minor 1 which I corrected but it was my own fault. Anyway that's my experience. Ps. I don't do gaming so maybe that has something to do with it.

@John Stroud gaming is pure developer support, I would love if devs made more cross-platform games. It especially pains me when devs use cross-platform engines and release only for windows. I personally never had any problems with windows on laptop (except every major update it rewrites boot entries, I have to keep linux usb at hand to reinstall bootloader). But I am quite light laptop user in Windows - browser, small games (rarely), text documents. Suppose windows updates could kill some laptops, but the cases I know about were caused by antiviruses, performance tanked after update, one time loading only in safe mode. Simple reinstall of antivirus helped quite a bit. Not a Win defender, I use Arch Linux as my system of choice. (Switched to windows at the moment on my home pc, but my power supply acted up and I thought I killed my linux setup)

It's funny. The reason I chose the iPhone8 was because I wanted a phone with a smalls screen that was still fast and decent. No because of my hand, but I just want it to fit in my pocket. All of the android stuff you have to go with a cheap slow phone to get a small screen. I have since drank the apple juice, and I've got all my iTunes, my iCloud, and I really like it. It just works and I don't have to really think about it. The only thing is I wish it had a headphone jack, but I got a bluetooth adapter for my car. When I am in a company car though I still have to choose between music and charging. I work on and fix PC's for a living, but I like my 2013 Retina and I use it for all my video editing. I got a new touch-bar Mac about 2 years ago and it was a nightmare. Had to upgrade my home router to 5 ghz so I could use accessories and wireless at the same time. I had to get a pile of dongles to carry around for everything, and the dongles were slower. It was faster for me to put a SD card in my old mac and air drop it to my new mac than it was to use a SD card dongle on the the new one. I went through 2 keyboards in 3 months. I decided to get rid of the new Mac and keep using the old one. I can live with the longer rendering times.

One more example of good design: the volume and brightness controls in Mac and iPhones is exponential based to ensure we perceive a smooth change across all the range. Windows, Linux and Android (Android was supposedly patched in 2018 for brightness, not yet fully working) use a linear scale to change both volume and brightness. This causes a small change in the scale at the lower values to have big effect, while big changes in the upper range have little change in the actual brightness. Think about it, imagine the brightness can be adjusted from 1 to 100. If the minimum brightness is 10, and one step changes it to 20, well, now it's twice as bright yet you only increased it by one notch. When the brightness changes from 90 to 100, the increase of brightness is about 10% and you have also moved one notch. I saw this with my old MBP 2007, where Linux brightness was not as smooth as Mac OS X. So i actually measured the hardware value at each notch, and it plotted an exponential curve. These details provide a really smooth user experience, yet nobody else pays attention to these details.
@gorkyd79125 жыл бұрын
2nd that with brightness issues. The Lenova Yoga 2 has a screen problem epidemic. At low brightness the backlight flickers. When the display adjusts brightness to ambient it flickers. And sometimes it flashes off-on randomly as the battery saving screen refresh feature glitches out.

You're right about the hand size thing being a problem for some guys. I'm 5'5" with hands probably 1/3 to 1/2 has big as yours. In highschool I could pass as 5 years younger than I am. I could today to except for my salt and pepper beard lol. But EVERYTHING for men is made for guys who are 6ft with normal man sized hands. Don't' even get me started on finding clothes that fit. But point is my S7 Active is about as big of a phone as I can use one handed. One reasons why I got it was because I didn't' need ot use a case with it for drop protection and putting a case on a normal S7 made it wider and thicker than the Active and harder to hold with one hand. I suspect this is why Phones like the Note series have changed aspect ratios to be more tall an skinny. As the screens get bigger and bigger even those with average size hands are having trouble with them. Making it a little narrower helps. Personally I really want to handle a Samsung Galaxy Fold. Seems perfect for me. Keep it closed and it's got a tall and very narrow form factor for one handed use. When you want to use 2 hands open it and get a large tablet like screen. Seems like it would be best of both worlds to me. It's too bad it's so pricey though.
