Ironically today was my first class so this is a particularly interesting video for me. It was hard, that drew me in more. I felt completely drained but I’m hooked. Thanks for all the great vids!!

As cliche as this might sound...If I can do it, anyone can do it. I'm 54yo and started 2-1/2 years ago, and still a white belt. I've commented on about my BJJ I.Q. (pretty low) do to some childhood bullying issues. But, I have not even thought of giving up. I get smashed all the time, because higher belts and new students don't want to get worked by and older practitioner. My heart is there, but I gotta work on my mental and physical skills and try and get to the next level, but if I don't develop those do to lack of athleticism or mental abilities, and stay a white-belt until I die...I'm okay with that.

I remember the "I can't" days. It took at least a year of solid training to get to a point where I knew enough things to feel like I wasn't drowning. Then I started doing judo as well and the "I can't" days came back again! XD But I knew from past experience that if you stick with it eventually you learn enough so that you don't feel entirely useless. Takes a bit though.

One thing that I learned is to objectively look at your body structure, and figure out those attributes and techniques that align with eachother. For example: I have very short, muscular legs so close guard, triangle chokes or rubber guard are not for me. However, many wrestling techniques come naturally to me because of my natural build. I have a weak guard game, but because of that my defense from bottom side control or bottom mount became way sharper. All the time that would otherwise be spent playing guard is now spent there.

I took bjj in 2005 for 3 months. Went to a school in Pasadena, CA cause the name of the instructor. Monthly fee is $180 a month for unlimited classes. But if you go into 3, 6, or 12 month contract, it would be cheaper. Took 3 month contract for $150 a month. Went monday to friday. When my contract is about to end, i asked if it can be cheaper for training for 2-3 classes a week. I was offered $120 monthly for 2 classes a week. The prize was high for me. So i stopped.

Ya mine is 160 a month. I go 2-3 days a week. But in the end it is a priority like he was talking about in video 3. Whether it is money or time.

Do you still do jiu jitsu while injured? I have a knee that pops out at certain angles and I'm afraid if I start to train again it will get worse, or am I just making excuses? I've been out for almost a year and I'm getting angry.

We had a student, got blackbelt. Trained for another year or 2. Showed up to class in his street clothes one day and just sat and watched. I thought well maybe hes hurt and just wanted to be here... after class he walks in and tells Sensei, "thank you for everything but im not going to be comming anymore I want to do other things." Sense got real mad and said " U wanna quit? Why dont u just drop out of school too and quit at life!" He was pretty pissed.

Hi Ryan, Im a white belt taking gracie combatives at an academy. I bought the Rickson self defense module (on your recommendation) which is really good with the invisible jujitsu stuff. Some of the techniques I havent had yet, and I dont know if they will be in my combatives course. If I subscribe to your patreon, will that complement gracie combatives? Is it most of the same techniques, but a more in depth instructional on the "feel" of the moves, like base and connection, like in Ricksons videos? Which patreon level would i have to be at to get the instructional videos?
@KamaJiuJitsu
@KamaJiuJitsu 6 жыл бұрын
hey there, Coyote Clone! the gracie combatives is a great place to start. here's our issue with the GC, they teach you assuming your opponent is an inexperienced fighter. GM rickson's SDU takes some of those concepts to a higher level (rickson doesn't teach assuming your opponent cannot fight). Master Dave's Patreon page shows a mix of advanced concepts combined with the basic self-defense concepts Rickson teaches. there may be some overlap, but not much. the level of patreon that gets you access to videos is "brown belt." to get "all-access," it's the "black belt" level. beginners will be fine with brown belt level.

"Quit your vocabulary I can´t and instead find solutions" :-D Do you have a candid camera in our living room? :-D This sentence was in my motivational speach 2 days ago for my daughter. I am so fed up listening the "I can´t"-s. Whatever I say, suggest, or even she talks about her goals and dreams the next sentence starts with "but I can´t".
