I just dislike journalists and politicians using the word "tech" to describe an industry. It is too vague. I think the people at Bloomberg as well as CNBC are afraid to discuss technical subjects, so they use the word "tech" a lot. You can tell all American employers I feel totally psychologically destroyed. The closest thing to engineering work I got to do was at Communications and Power Industries of Palo Alto Ca in 2001. I was laid off with about 1/3 of the company. I stayed in Silicon Valley until 2003, going to various job networking meetings. I did some teaching in China after 2003. I wanted to see what was being done in manufacturing and science there. I paid off some student loans while there, and returned in late 2006, to Las Vegas because my parents have lived there since 1984.I found nothing in America or in Las Vegas, not even file clerking jobs. I think I arrived as the housing market was collapsing. Tell every company and business and America I feel psychologically destroyed. Tell every politician that. I get sick and tired of hearing the word "tech" repeated so much in the American media, because it so vague. It is a word that has nothing to do with solving any science, math or engineering problems. Why am I to be psychologically destroyed. Do I need to get a psychiatrist to figure out why my relatives the Tiptons, Noones, Blevins and Vinks are pretty close to moral perfection, and have almost perfectly secure economic lives. I just feel psychologically destroyed every day of the week. Why am I supposed to be psychologically destroyed. I get messages on KZbin that others like me being psychologically destroyed. Why do they want that for me? I do not want that for others.

@dozierstadium9 күн бұрын
Yeah, from CA, but almost no where can you move from another state to CA except maybe if you live in NYC or are extremely wealthy. Also what folks don't say too much is culturally it can be quite different state to state. And there is a lot of resentment towards newcomers who just buy their way into another state. It puts pressure on the natives and locals. Taxes go up, and folks cannot upgrade due to increasing prices. But yeah, generally similar laws, obviously same federal law, but some minor traffic and civil law differences. Gun laws can vary quite a bit by region and a little bit by state. It is a privilege to have freedom to move for sure, but, the general societal and cultural atmosphere in America seems to be deteriorating, and folks love to fight politically here. Mexico is probably my favorite country for people and social atmosphere.
@marsmaker36678 күн бұрын
@uKaZdAb You are focusing too much on the negatives, and that' not very American, is it? I am simply saying how amazing it is that in USA, it is basically a country of different countries, you have dozens of states and cities outside California and NY that are very rich and very developed and civilized, way better than most countries, that you can simply move to if you are sick of the LA or NYC or San Francisco way of life, it's like pressing a refresh button without losing any data. For all other countries on Earth, there is only one or two good city and if you hate it there, there is nowhere else to go.
@firefalcoln8 күн бұрын
@uKaZdAb There are plenty of places a regular American can move to in California. Especially if their plan is to rent rather than buy. But if you want to buy, the far north of California is similarly priced to the median US home costs today. Even along the coast in the far north right near Oregon it’s not that expensive. And remote parts of the Sierra Nevada aren’t that pricey either. It’s expensive to buy in the bustling metros of California around the SF Bay Area, LA or SD where there are lots of good jobs and weather. Some of the coastal areas away from the big cities are pricey too because they’re dream landing spots for wealthy retiring people. Vacation spots like Tahoe, Sonoma, and Yosemite are pricy if you get a location super close or within the touristy area as well. None of that should be a surprise. The Central Valley isn’t that pricy as well. The inland area between San Diego and Arizona is pretty cheap too. But it’s less ideal IMO to live in those more cost effective areas than the ones previously mentioned.

Watch for possibility that somewhere in the Great Lakes region could become the next high-tech hot spot (in spite of the weather). Great that Phoenix is bringing in more of the high-tech industry. I live in the Carefree/CC area and only 15-minute drive to TSMC Fabs along Carefree Highway and those buildings are huge (one of the 3 largest cranes in the world was at the site for years during construction). The whole area in nearby Anthem is turning into Little Taiwan. Lots of mandarin immersion language in the primary schools for our kids and lots of new restaurants in the area for SE Asian cuisine even a new Taiwanese bakery (their pineapple bun is really good). Also have lots of people (primarily from CA) with advanced degrees moving into the area with their kids to work at TSMC. Huge contrast between the very poorly educated and practically illiterate folks in New River area (northern Anthem) vs the highly educated moving into Anthem. Figure it's good for both groups of people to have their kids in the same schools and learn to work together. Geopolitically this is a huge win just in case China decides to invade Taiwan or even blockade the island country which would adversely impact most industries in the U.S. as currently over 90% of all advances semiconductors come from Taiwan. Energy wise we have Palo Verde (largest nuclear power plant in the US) just about 50 miles S by SW of TSMC fab. Plus, an abundance of sunlight (300+ days/yr) making solar very attractive for the area. Personally, we installed a 12kwh solar system on primary home in 2016. Paid itself off by 2022 and full 30-year warranty on the system (including inverters) until 2046. Use to pay over $600/mo. (keep it at 72 degrees year-round) in 2015 for electricity in the summer months for a 4k sq foot home now it's just the grid tie in fee $45/mo. Love the independence of not dealing with raising energy rates (grandfathered into the 2016 rates for 25 years). So basically, unlimited energy in AZ. Study showed a 400 sq mile plot of AZ turned into one big solar farm would power the entire United States. That should be the next big investment is to make AZ the energy capital of the country. Only drawbacks to AZ is the summer heat, lack of rainfall the last couple years (climate change), lack of public transportation systems (metro line is only for downtown), water security (though residential water use only makes up 6.6% of all water used in the state). Agriculture is the biggest culprit at over 70% of all water used in the state is for agriculture.

If you like barren, arid land, up to 120 degrees for half the year, worse air pollution than LA, living middle of nowhere, horrendous traffic, etc. etc...Phoenix is your place...you will love it!

Absolute HELL on earth 6 months out of the year (how much $$$ did Phoenix pay CNBC for this fluff piece?). In an area that has been grossly overbuilt for the lack of water in the area, with no new water sources on the horizon (and with shocking pushback on the last/only hope left, a desalination plant). If you could short any U.S. city, it would be Phoenix.

Amazon has been advertising its drone delivery service, known as Prime Air, since around 2013. The concept gained significant attention when Amazon founder Jeff Bezos first mentioned it during a "60 Minutes" interview in December 2013. Since then, Amazon has been working on developing the technology and infrastructure n

🔌🔌The issue with the Phoenix Valley is the lack of electrical power and pollution caused by the new high-tech industry and the additional people it requires to run the facilities. Companies like TSMC, Intel, Azure, Iron Mountain, H5, Meta, Google Vantage, QTS, Align Energy, and Apple use massive amounts of power that require over 2.6 GW from the APS and SRP grid. The new Tract AI data center in Buckeye will require 1.8GW, which exceeds the City of Phoenix's power usage today. Simultaneously, Phoenix is on track to move from the fifth most polluted city in the USA to number three if the NOx levels from vehicles are not addressed. The highway overhead signs warn people about air pollution a few times a week. By the end of the day, the gray haze (smog - NOx) is so thick it makes the surrounding mountains hard to see. Now, one of the top respiratory health clinics in the world is located in Arizona.🔌🔌

AZ needs power and water infrastructure. Desalination plants south and west to feed AZ. San Diego has the largest desalination plant in the Western Hemisphere. Let's power them with modular nuclear and make the Southwest Desert Bloom.

Had no idea what TSMC was, now I know. I go to Phoenix regularly for the past decade. Rode in a Waymo for my first time last month. But what will happen if or when Arizona doesn’t have enough water like how Nevada has less water for their people?
@Maxpasadena11 күн бұрын
The majority of the water in AZ is used for agriculture - that will be reduced over time. 1 hour north of Phoenix (look for Payson on a map) it looks like Colorado and SRP has built and is expanding reservoirs to hold water from snow melt and rains.

Thank you for bringing up the water! Kinda thought this was a puff piece if you don't bring up negative consequences. TSMC should build solar panels on the South side of the C.A.P. Canal near their facility. They better not try to shut down Ben Avery's Shooting Range either.

On the military side, could use innovation in anti air defense specifically for drones, that's been laggard in development while drones posing a near uncontested threat in current combat environments. Particularly the ones guided by lengths of conduit.

They have been saying this every decade. Phoenix will never be a tech hot spot. Just ask what percentage of the population move in and out every year. Only thing hot in Phoenix is the weather. People good at what they are doing have choice, like not burning their hands on the steering wheel.

Austin And Phoenix! We need more states similar to Texas and Arizona. Texas GDP number 8 in the world!!!! Texas is its own country. We need to be a leader in AI, Made in America. We can become a creditor nation again vs the world’s largest Debtor nation now. We need a AI revolution where everyone around the world wants our products. Made in America. Trade surplus vs deficit! Capitalism and the American Dream! I am excited for USA’s future. Very inspiring to hear. More chips in USA vs TSMC in Taiwan. More battery factories in USA vs buying from Korea, China’s CATL, and Japan. EV’s will be faster and cheaper to build in the future. More storage batteries to use solar/wind at night! As battery costs come down we will hand $25,000 EV’s.

What about water? What happens when it dries out? Also, it's so hot during the summer, many people will never move there. Or if they do, they leave a couple years later because you can't go outside from 6 am - 10 pm for 6 months.
