Hey Fonzie, Nolan here, the guy that no idea how to dip his Z. First off I want to say that I have nothing but respect for you and DipYourCar, and you raise many good points in this video. I did not expect to get such a big response from the Dipping community with this episode of Hi Low but in retrospect I guess we should have anticipated that. You are 100% right, I did not put in enough research on how to do the job properly. We filmed all of Hi Low in two weeks, which did not allow enough time for research or practice. I truly wanted our Plastidip job to be great. We did it on a Friday and I was looking forward to it all week. We spent around 7 hours cleaning and masking the car, and I was very proud of that. The production schedule didn’t allow for letting the car dry and painting on another day. I’m a competitive person, I really wanted my car to look better than James’ wrapped car. I was super disappointed in myself that I wasn’t able to make that happen, and I knew it’s because I didn’t know what the heck I was doing, and that’s more a reflection on me than it is on Plastidip. In the end Hi Low is about showing the viewer both how to do things and how NOT to do things, and I think this episode really illustrates that. I didn’t know the process, used the wrong equipment, and it came out terrible, and its important that our viewers know to not to do what I did! But I’ve seen a lot of great looking plastidip jobs, which is specifically why we included one in the video, and I still want to try it again. Despite my own failure, I do think it is a great product. I would love for you to teach me how to Plastidip correctly, maybe we could collaborate and respray my Z?

I agree, that was a very classy way to handle this. Not sure how many hours of DYC I've watched, but I know deep down that it still isn't enough. There is no substitute for practice, and a good paint job is partially art and partially skill. The guys at DYC make it look so easy, and if you buy the equipment they use, you can probably pull off a decent result the first time. But to compare with any professional treatment should really be left to compare wrap vs. spray by two professional shops.

There’s a stigma that spreads quickly with any product that has a learning curve or any slight deviation to the “tradition way”. But a great experience can change the opinion of anyone. Once you get your car to turn out beautifully, hold up through countless touchless car washes and get tons of compliments it’s really hard to discredit a product that is clearly an amazing (in my opinion superior) alternative to wrap. First of all, thanks for doing this Fonzie. I watched the Donut Media video independent of this, and the first thing I thought was, "Why are you thinning out the PDS?!" I knew from that point on that the result was going to be terrible, and not because of the DYC product. I dipped my own car 3 years ago, for the first time. And while the results were not top-notch (through no fault of DYC), they were passable enough that people are still commenting on the color and I am not ashamed of the result. Would I do it again? ABSOLUTELY! Without question. And I know that it'll be better the second time around. Keep up the good work.

Hey Fonzi, I've never used your product but I've been researching it and seen, heard great things about the product... Seeing this video did not deter me from using it. As we speak I'm saving my money for it. I have a 1998 Mitsubishi Mirage 2dr coupe in great condition, it's been in my family for over twenty years and I'm gonna trust your product with it. Can't wait to buy that frozen blue kit for my Mirage and Shadow black hyperdip for my wheels. There're always gonna be haters in the field so don't feed into it, your product will speak for itself! The best to you and your company... Hopefully you will be hearing from me soon with my order! Can't wait!!!🚙🏁

The reason I love and belive plastic dip is important in the community is that it allows people to step out of their comfort zones and allows them to try new looks without permanent repercussions. It helped me to step out of the comfort zone, and actually lead me to work on cars for a living. It gives you that "what's the worst that could happen" mentality. Much love for you guys.

Hey fonzie, I have first used your product in 2017 and I think it is the greatest and most cost effective solution for anyone who wants to change color of his/her own vehicle, in a non permanent way. I follow your channel and Donut media’s channel, truly enjoy both of them. Your commentary was classy and truthful. Nolan is a great guy as well and I’m glad, he chimes in and set the record straight. Would love to see you both work together on a plastiDip project.

Great video. I know it can be challenging to combat negative information. I really love this Donut series! I hope you two do a collab! I don't think it was meant to disrespect the dipping community. I think Donuts series accurately reflect how others would go about modding their car and the thought process behind it to keep the costs down. Many would take Donuts approach on the low car and not think twice! (which is sad) but true! I think thats part of the point of Donuts Hi Low series. I think Nolan did a great job of representing your brand and the potential when done correctly as he does with most of the mods on the low car. Your probably over it by now but no need to feel bitter or angry. Its just a great example of what not to do! :) all the best.

Late to add a comment here. But regardless i hope you see this. I love watching your videos and the content from dount media. I saw both episodes from dount about plastic dip and it made me consider doing it to my car. Here is the catch. I built my car literally from a body up. There is not a bolt i did not touch on my car. Its a 05 GTO. It is my dream car. I had to spray paint the bumpers and mirrors to get them to color match and it looks terrible. But i cam say i did it. With that said i am also very picky about where i spend my money for my car. So much so i make 100% custom parts for my car because i didnt fine a supplier i felt deserved my money for my car. This video alone has convinced me to invest in your company. So... thank you for not bashing them, thank you for open and honest talk, and thank for being a genuine car guy and seeing past the bs. I look forward with doing business with you. As im sure you have plenty of bad ass cars on the road that are dipped. You can definitely tack on one guy in a GTO that will be only using your product in the future.

I'm subbed to both Channels; I don't think Donut Media was attacking/misrepresenting your company, products, or process. They were simply creating entertaining content, at the expense of their own inexperience. If you want entertainment you go to Donut Media; If you want to be educated in Plastidip you watch DYC. I understand you are passionate about your company and its image, but overall it was just a bunch of guys screwing up the process of plastidipping a car. I am glad that they did show a properly dipped car. A collaboration would be an epic video to watch.
