This was great! I actually used Pokemon as an example to explain this way back in the day. The argument I made (I was competitive back in Gen 4) was, my leading Pokemon is a Jolteon. The opponent's is Gyarados. I outspeed Gyarados, but I suspect my opponent has an Electivire. While my Thunderbolt will OHKO Gyarados, I risk giving their Electivire a speed boost. I can instead do Substitute and set up for my Agility/Baton Pass combo, but I know Gyarados has Earthquake and Dragon Dance, so if I Substitute and it DDs, I'm now in trouble. What should I do? It was a pretty good way of illustrating these kinds of concepts.

How hard would it be for people to learn this out of just having played the game without studying theory? U think it’s common that pros didn’t study the theory and just developed the skill naturally?

@@huntthebug9744 100%. I don't think most pro players study game theory to enhance their skill. Instead, they probably practice with their specific teams and understand the situations they are going to be in better than most other players so they can make optimal decisions most of the time.
