Excellent lecture on the origins of our historic accent. However a lot of that old Potters tongue is not used anymore. In my opinion there is a modern distinct difference of three areas within the Potteries. Alsager, Talke and Kidsgove pronounce the word "book" as "buck". The City area Hanely,Stoke,Fenton and Longton say "boowk" more like a nicer sounding Scouse sound. The Staffordshire Moorlands would say "bowk" a totally over emphasis on more like a joking type of talk. For instance "get thee skowl bowks hight and get thee sums dun". (Get your school books out and do your homework) That's how my grandad used to talk. However the younger generation simply do not have any old accent in them, it's sadly been eradicated. I must put what I know of the Potters accent on KZbin one day ✨
