@@BaronPilot Great video as always and I can't thank you enough for not playing super annoying music during your flights when you are narrating and talking to ATC. Music for effect before and after flights and occasionally when in flight when not talking is ok but playing background music while narrating or talking to ATC will make me stop the video and unsubscribe.

You ain't lying about storms here in FL. I'm based in Kissimmee with my small Beech Sierra and I can't tell you the times I've just landed somewhere to eat to let the weather go on by. We have also taken my plane up to small ville Illinois vs the airlines because after the waiting and the connections then the rental drive down I am already down on the ground in the small town of his home. Good flight buddy.

Having owned 2 airplanes, the cost of private flying isn't much cheaper than 1 st class airfare once you include all of the expenses of ownership. I miss flying my own, but the current costs of ownership would be beyond the reach of many. I watch your vids to remind myself of the fun of flying, trying to ignore the costs.

I got my PPL in 2002 but haven't flown since 2007. It's amazing to see all the resources that one has these days. Foreflight or other flying apps, your phone, your awesome Avidyne set up. Makes everything easier and safer as long as it's learned properly. Hey, it had to be more fun flying there yourself than flying commercially anyway. Thanks for the video!

I worked on the construction of Taiwan High Speed Rail, Eva Air were a part owner of the company through Evergreen Corp. I though strange that an airline would invest in a railway, but then the railways run city centre to city centre where most people travel to. When the railway started running a newspaper compared the total travel time and rail came out faster on overall travel, The actual flight was quicker but getting there and check in time knocked it out of the park. Travellers also enjoyed the scenery, being able to walk around when ever, plus the experience of travelling at 300klph.

In my previous airplane (Piper Saratoga) I had a Stormscope and XM and ADSB Nexrad. In my current airplane I have the Nexrad and no Stormscope but onboard radar. Frankly, I’d rather have the Stormscope. Easier to interpret and thunderstorms are what I want to avoid. Maybe after a while I’ll grow more fond of radar.

PLUS..... Flying Yourself.... Keeps You Sharp.... and, healthier because you are forced to see a Dr every few years.. no screaming kids, unless you want to bring them with you... the real drawback is::: fuel costs. Seattle TO Houston (only one way w/mine takes 350 gallons of fuel at $4.80 = $1,500) vs a $149 one way on Alaska Air..? Hard argument to win

Baron Pilot - if you are traveling a few hours in your aircraft to save $7,000.00 for buying an AUDI.... perhaps money is indeed an issue... my fuel costs for a round trip on my bird from Seattle to Houston and back, is over $3,000 at today’s fuel costs. Parking fees for several days? while, Commercial is only $269.00 (round trip).. if I was bringing 6 others, then it’s an option... or, if I was landing at Lufkin, TX vs Houston considering a 2 hour Drive Time... you just have to weigh everything out. PS - I’ve already had COVID 😷

It takes more than just a Commercial License to do that. You would need a CFR 135 Air Carrier Certificate (Charter Operator) Which is a huge cost to obtain and maintain. Additional Maintenance, Pilot Training, Insurance for an occasional expedited package wouldn't be worth it.

I try not to second guess anyone's decision making. That is easy to do when we are not in the seat. But I will say, that the outcome could have easily been different based on what I've seen.

What's up with the EGT readings ?
@BaronPilot
@BaronPilot 4 жыл бұрын
I think you’re are referring to the analog gauge. I have a JPI that give me the EGT on every cylinder. They are great. That gauge goes away with my new avionics upgrades.

Looking at your radar, looks like sea breeze weather. Moves east to west inland then disapates.

Depends on the time of year. Usually it builds over the ocean or over land but not both, leaving a path. But not always.

It's more practical in some cases, but less safe. Many GA pilots don't belong in the air. I'll trust my safety with the commericals. If the commercials went down at the same rate that the GA aircraft do, nobody would fly. There is a reason why GA planes go down more often--it's not safe. If you're going to say that with GA you get there quicker and save time, so what. You guys do the same thing we commerical folks do when we arrive. We find a restaurant, hotel, etc. I'm happy you're paying the bills for your GA flights. I'd rather invest my money in the commercials--my safety profile goes way up. Flying is fun--I flew for awhile, but if your only passion in life is getting in the plane and flying, that seems limiting to me.

Is your Baron certified for flight into known icing? Have you ever found yourself in icing?

While I have de-ice boots and alcohol Props and windshield, it is not certified for known icing. I have found myself in Ice but never in the Baron.

@@BaronPilot Thanks for the reply. My only experience with icing was in a Piper Warrior which doesn't even have "get out of jail free" tools. That was a scary day. I'm really glad we were already near our destination when my instructor pointed it out, but I could even with the light icing we encountered feel the controls mush out on me during landing and we actually stalled in the flare. We found out later the stall horn had iced over so no stall warning. I don't want to think about what more build up would have meant.
@BaronPilot
@BaronPilot 4 жыл бұрын
Just remember if you think you have ice, land faster as your stall speed will be higher and never use more then approach flaps. Flaps can induce a tale stall which has an opposite recovery method.

Once a week I have to drive 250 miles one way for work. Someone once asked me why I didn't buy an airplane to save time. They were working off of the assumption that having an airplane was like having a car. I told him it is extremely expensive. He said, "Nah, I've seen airplanes for sale for $30-40,000." I just laughed and then explained the costs of owning, operating, and maintaining an airplane. He was surprised to say the least.

With all the garbage going on with the airlines now coupled with many of them making mask wearing mandatory I have never been so glad to be a pilot and aircraft owner. My wife who views flying as a means to an end made the comment when watching the news the other night that it looks like we will be using our plane for most future travel. Now we of course have more limitations in the conditions we can fly in but I won't miss traveling by the airline one bit. Getting there for me is always half the fun.

Private flying is more convenient, BUT you have to have the financial means to afford the associated costs. It’s not an option for everyone, that’s for sure.
