I love watching soccer in person, but find it a lot slower on TV - so it makes sense what you said about camera angles and such.

Yeah itthe low block or parking the bus gives the defending line more time to build up and pass around just watch Barça vs atetico

@@alexflame9383 yes, a low block attempts to take away the dangerous areas of the pitch, giving the team in possession space in the build up and wide areas

Just to comment on you saying players are more athletic than ever, I think you would be surprised at how unathletic footballers in the modern day are, just look at some of the gym work from some of the "best" regarded teams like barcelona or man city , the strength and conditioning work is laughable and it is no wonder we see so many players getting injured. Many will say this is due to game congestion but with proper S&C players shouldn't be getting injured this much, I mean for example why aren't long distance runners who run 100+km a week getting injured all the time when they cover more weekly distance than footballers? To comment on the overall video I think it is interesting as you are one of the only people I have seen to call the modern game slow (which I agree with) when the large majority the mainstream football audience would say the opposite and claim that football in the past was slow. The modern game is slow due to the lack of risk taking, creativity and individuality (most teams want to play similar modern playstyles as the feel they have to fit in with what is perceived in the modern day as the most "optimal" or "efficient" tactics/strategies) whereas the game in the past in my opinion is the opposite, go and watch south american football from the 60s to the late 90s, the game was fast, ruthless and creative with more athletic players who in my opinion had greater footballing ability.

@@realjgo0d Thanks for sharing your opinion! Every year, records continue to be broken for the fastest top speeds recorded in the sport. More data and improved training methods continue to push the sport forward athletically. This video was intended to provide background as to why players are more athletic, yet the sport has slowed down at the highest level. Hope it helped!

@@Ftblrcntrl I am sorry but I have to disagree, "improved training methods" ? The modern day gym work in Football teams hasn't improved over older methods and it doesn't make players more athletic, to see this watch Barcelona and their gym work then go and compare this to Werner Gunthor training and you will see what athletic training looks and what unathletic training looks like. The older methods were more simple yet way more effective than the modern day training methods, rarely will you even see a simple back squat (especially a heavy back squat) in a modern football team instead you see them doing light weight, ineffective movements that yield little results. The older methods were also better because they were developed by real scientists like Verkhoshanksy who tested methods on Olympic level athletes to see what worked and what didn't. You talk about fastest top speeds but this is meaningless especially with the context that we have, more and more people play football in the modern day so of course we are going to see more fast players who break speed records however this is due to their genetic dispositions not the "improved training methods". However as I said you are right that the game has become slower due to the tactics but for me this is another issue that is ruining Football as modern games are boring to watch and I would much rather watch a game from 20+ years ago. Also for me the modern tactics don't represent any sort of skill/ability or an improvement in the average professional players footballing ability as I think you could take any top team from any era, give them modern day tactics and they will be able to use them as they are intended, this is because the tactics are not hard use as teams just want to hold onto the ball and pass it around slowly waiting for an opening. It is way harder to play like the teams from the past where you play at a fast tempo, take risks and are creative, playing like that requires way more footballing ability.

+ in my opinion apart from aerobic capacity football isn't incredibly athletic and it has become less athletic over the years for the reasons I have stated already, and I am saying this whilst football is my favourite sport, I am not trying to hate on football from an athletic perspective I am just saying what the main stream audience doesn't see and understand.

I appreciate you sharing your opinion. However, the modern game is indisputably more athletic than in previous decades. While you can go back and forth on which decade has the most pleasing football to watch, modern players are faster, stronger, more explosive, and more dynamic than players in previous decades. Players today can’t get away with regular poor habits in the way that previous players could. Additionally, youth players at 12 years old have more nutrition and S&C information available to them than professional players did in previous decades.

@@Ftblrcntrl This is an interest thread of comments but I have to say have you seen how skinny players are today? I can't exactly see all the "information" being put into practice. If they are so strong why are players getting injured all the time? what poor habits are you referring to that previous players could make and get away with? because I feel in all eras of football mistakes get punished so I don't know how you think players of the past could get away with the mistakes. and on what basis can you say that the modern players are faster , stronger and more explosive when you literally say that the modern game has been made slow, so where are you getting to see this speed and explosiveness if the game is slow?
