Pros don’t get lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow). Yes they get elbow injuries, but tennis elbow is a rec level issue. Watch my video on how to get rid of this nightmare that a lot of you guys are dealing with 👇👇👇👇👇 kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJbJfHxnbZJ7oa8si=Kj9ThP-oZ5zdaG_

I've only been playing for 1.5 years - my coach just mentioned this same thing to me yesterday. Need to focus on clean contact & using the whole body!

One more that I want to add: The grip! Most amateur players that I know hardly change their grip and some even wait until the original grip starts to get damaged! And the problem with this is creating tennis elbow is that, the less the grip is effective, the more you have to hold your hand tight which is holding the racquet. If the grip got slippery and is not holding your hand enough, to keep the grip position in your hand tightly, you have to tighten your hand muscles, which means your arm as a whole will be more tight. Just try making a strong fist and you'll see that the muscles in your arm also gets tighter. Which means, when you swing the racquet while hitting, your hand should be loose enough to swing freely and just strong enough to hold the racquet in position while it hits the ball! And additionally, amateur players also mostly doesn't care about whether their racquet strings got old and tight or not, so that also I think has an impact on the arm.

Several years ago the Tennis Channel interviewed a trainer who worked at the tournament they were covering. The host asked how the trainer dealt with players who get tennis elbow. The trainer laughed and said that pros don't get tennis elbow because their technique is sound.

This statement coincides with mine when I am in discussions about tennis elbow. A heavy or demanding racket is never the cause of this type of injury. It is always the incorrect execution of the stroke. People should stop blaming the wrong things for their own incompetence.

Same thing for me on the serve - when I manage to use a more correct technique and everything works smoothly and I get a good contact, I can use a lot of force but feel nothing in my shoulder - but when the toss is wrong or the timing of the swing is off and I get a poor conatct and I reaching for the ball or forcing the shot, I feel discomfort in the shoulder which eventually becomes pain if I continue to serve poorly.

Another reason is they are also younger most are in their 20s & below 39 yrs old so their body ligaments and tendons are more flexible. And yes pros usally have their technique down unlike weekend rec tennis players . Also one handed backhands hit incorrectly promote this . Funny how now even in the Pros One handed backhands are now in the minority unlike 25 yrs ago +

hmmm, so a bigger racket head size would help prevent tennis elbow !

Playing better lately I notice I have tennis elbow if I hit slow esp against lower level players. If I hit my normal shot or faster I don’t feel it. So it is unhealthy for me to hit with lower level players

I beg to differ. Pros start to play tennis at an early age, which is not the case of most rec players who are already grown ups. At middle age, you can hardly avoid having pain all over your body. Ageing is a factor!
