In electronics, you can see that a capacitor can be placed in parallel with the switch. This is necessary in order to extinguish a high-voltage arc when the contacts switch an inductive load.

Suppose I am switching a "220V AC LOAD" with a "5V/5A RELAY". How to select value of C and R roughly. Is it ok to consider 0.1uf X2 capacitor and 40 to 50 ohm resistor ?
