The level of corruption in FIFA is unrivalled in any other organization at this point in time. So watching the World Cup allows you to explore how morally corrupt you are, understanding that no level of crime and human suffering will ever keep you from getting your entertainment. For the current world cup, about 400 and 500 slaves died- but this is a small price compared to the moral bankruptcy we all suffered by supporting these regimes... so why not pick north korea next? Pretty sure FIFA is open to that suggestion.

@@BernhardWelzel don't know squat about soccer, to busy living life. As far as all the "games" are concerned, I'd like them to be in one place, politics played down and not in these countries that are still stuck in the 10th century. Qatar will just raise oil prices to cover it all and will still profit handsomely. All at our expense in the end. Rename it "The Apolitical Games" , just to continually drive the point home.

This is correct. Most of London's venues and even the athletes village has been repurposed as it was set to happen in an area that was already targeted or regeneration which is how London won the bid. The athletics stadium is now the home stadium of West Ham United Football Club but also hosts concerts (e.g. AC DC, Beyonce, The Rolling Stones) and athletics events (and occasionally other events like monster trucks). The Copper box hosts regular basketball events along with occasional events of a ifferent nature like cheerleading competition and hackathons. Aquatics centre is open for the public to use (you have to pay) and hosts swimming and diving lessons and competitions, and the hockey and tenis centre and velodrome are also open to those who want to use it too as well as the whole park. I would recommend a visit if you eve come to London.

The idea of a permanent host would be unpopular and considered as a monopoly. The sports is shared by the world, so hosting it should also be shared in my opinion. Specially for soccer, when the rules include a host nation automatically qualifies for the games, and the rest of the world has to compete to qualify. Either way, the cost is getting out of control and fewer nations would be interested as a host anyways. I just returned from Qatar, despite all their human right problems, it was an incredible experience. But not every host will be like Qatar.

I think this whole video ignores the main issue. Everyone, including former FIFA leaders, knew that Qatar wasn’t a good venue and wasn’t really practical. But corruption and oil money dominated the decision, so practicality goes out the window. And I expect that will continue for FIFA since they are comically corrupt. And I think the Olympic committee is going in that direction too, but hopefully they can course correct. Even if a grand total of zero humans have died working in said Arabic countries since 1957, it's still besides the point that the whole tactic that these Arabic countries use is literally forcing these migrant workers to stay. Normally the UN declares that type of thing a violation of human rights, if, say, a European nation does it. They literally bare them from owning their visas, so that they have no choice but work on, again, non-regular payments. Back to deaths though, the real issue with that is that it's all unreported and happening in autotheocratic nations that only have interest in lying and have been proven to do it before. Literally no one knows how many have died. The whole thing is so hilariously unacceptable, yet we don't bat an eye because half of our oil comes from one of these Arabic nations. Even if they got FIFA or Qatar to comment, it probably would have been a bunch of phony PR-speak anyway. everyone knows that they've been trying to hide this mess for the past decade. 6500 number is ridiculous and egregious example of misinformation. It's was a number of estimated deaths over a 12 year period of ALL migrant deaths in sectors from Oil and gas extraction, construction, hospitality... The Guardian who came up with the estimate included natural deaths and even inflated the number to account for undocumented migrants. If you know anything about the Gulf especially Qatar you'd know they're police states. You can't open banking, get accomodation, convert money, send remittance or even get a SIM card without providing identification and often biometrics. Undocumented workers in Qatar is nonsensical. UAE has been proven to have sponsored misinformation campaign against Qatar regarding the WC. From sponsoring KZbin channels, sponsoring 'sources' used reputable news providers such as the BBC, Twitter profiles that churn and amplify disinformation to even funding Human rights activists to disparage/malign Qatar. As for the reforms being paper reality the FACT that the government has taken back the right to approve and set requirements for work visas is already a CRAZY undertaking and one that should be applauded. The Qatari population is only 300k, they only took control of the administrative responsibility for the nation from the British in the 70s (who brought the Kafalah system) and they obviously have a bureaucratic capacity disparity. They neither had the history, institutions or workforce to manage or regulate vast portions of their public services and so they outsourced to the private sector to fill these gaps which included the logistics of bringing in the workforce necessary to build and maintain the growth of Qatar's economy. French and belgian companies won the right to build transport system required for World cup. They used a company that was operating in the region that sourced migrant workers. They chose this company because it has documented history of delivering and because it was cheap... As long as they don't break Qatar's non existent/weak regulations capitalism dictates their condition doesn't matter. So those French and belgian companies didn't consider their western values and human rights because capitalism doesn't care. When they bidded for the contract from the Qataris they could have stipulated what they want to pay workers, set housing standards the housing standards they expect for their workers... Qatar would have to choose yes or no. But they were never put in that position because the European companies designing, consulting and administrating these projects only care about money... So where is their backlash? If western nations held the companies from their shores to the same standard they want to hold other nations they'd cripple their own economies. It's all well and good saying Australia, UK and US stand for fair employment and safe working conditions as evidenced by strong regulation in their own nation but when it comes to what impact and the exploitation of Glencore, BHP Billiton, Cargill to name but tiny few it's all crickets...

Instead of 1host I tied select a couple cities like one or two from each of the 5 continents …develop the facilities and then rotate amongst those cities. It’s global, feasible and will give a chance for each continent to engage in sustainable development. I would go for (LA, NYC) for North America, London or Paris for Europe, South Africa or a union of African nations for the continent, Australia(Sydney or Melbourne summer)and new Zealand(Aukland winter) could jointly host, Tokyo or Beijing for Asia(maybe India might wanna join), Brazil for South America cause they already did it once plus they use the facilities. That would be amazing plus give options for joint hosting improving diplomatic relations.

If you chose to separate Europe from Asia, can you explain the boundary? Was Africa a separate continent before they dug the Suez Canal? Why? Secondly, I doubt huge South American countries like Brazil and Argentina would want to be classified alongside the US, Canada, and Mexico knowing that in such a set up their chances are zero. Lastly, the original Olympics was held in a hardly modernized, urbanized, and globalized world. Fun fact with the USA hosting the fifa world cup, they should only use 100k+ stadiums since they have heaps of them.... Soccer world cup can even be hosted in multiple countries, and even an Australia/NZ host (they host the women world cup, but that's a different cake) would be legendary in a different way because Australia is part of the AFC and NZ with oceania retrospectively.... And maybe even singa/malay/indo can jump on the bandwagon as well..... WA of Australia (with Perth Stadium) or even SA (Adelaide Oval) alongside with maybe 3-4 grounds in singa/indo/malay (maybe the new jakarta stadium that is being built at the moment, surabaya can be another host, singapore national stadium can be expanded to fit 40-50k and KL have a massive stadium in its own right or rather than surabaya hosting a few games, another malay city can host a few games instead) region can host several groups (lets say group A, B, C or whatever), since those regions are like 3-4 hours away between each other. The rest of the east cost and NZ (lets say MCG, Stadium Australia, Suncorp, SFS, Eden Park, Westpac Stadium and maybe a few other regional cities in the east cost/NZ such as Geelong/Newcastle/Gold Coast/Dunedin can host a few games) They merge later on in the tournament since FIFA plans to expand the world cup, so lets expand it to multiple host countries. (such as west group play their knockouts in the west till they meet the eastern group which they play their knockout in the east and then that get shared). Quarter finals could be held in Perth, KL, Eden Park and Suncorp. Semis - New Jakarta Stadium and Stadium Australia Finals and third place - MCG and maybe Singapore National Stadium. For visa issues, use Australia as the standard, then if they have an aussie visa (show tickets to games and reasonable funds or hotel booking as standard), they can go to NZ/malay/indo or singa for 30 days no issues during the world cup without having to apply for another visa. Its will require complex negotiations and a bit more time in the later stages of the game (to allow for travel) and a Oct/Nov/Dec hosting period. But its can be done. Olympics is a bigger complex issue, but i feel there should be at one or 2 cities per continent ready to host games at a drop of a hat and rotate as such if no new bidders come along....

For the World Cup, there might be a few cities with 4-5 v large football stadiums that are regularly used. The only one I can think of is London, but there might be others, and regional sharing might be viable in some cases. Overall, I think the World Cup could reasonably require bidders to NOT do any major new construction. For the summer Olympics, the problem is that there isn't anywhere that has all of the permanent infrastructure. It's such a diverse mix of sports that there's nowhere in the world that is so amazing at all of the sports that they need top-notch stadiums for all of them. And anything that you build specially will be too big and expensive for ongoing use. For the winter Olympics, the problem is climate change. There might be a few places that have most of the needed infrastructure, but they probably won't have enough snow in 30-50 years' time. @@michaelzhang7897 So do you really think anyone finds school fun ? If you want fun , go to Disney World, that is what I do. Why waste taxpayer money on sports that a small % of population cares about. I wanted to learn piano but schools don't teach piano, only football. So my parents paid for piano lessons after school. They should be doing the same thing with sports at school. It is time to start targeting education at school to learning topics , sports and gym have no place. My daughter wanted to learn dancing. They don't teach dancing at school so I paid for her lessons. Why are schools stuck in this 200 year old tradition of teaching sports on school time with taxpayers money ??? Total waste.

They did it to develop the infrqstructure mainly. Which was not developed in previous years. The expenditure is not wasted as so many barren lands are developed. These people are not idoits. I am in Qatar for last 7 years. When inl cwme here there were no major roads. Now all outskirts are being developed. And they have huge investments outside Qatar.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the decision to ban women from college will "come with consequences." What if Muslims said the country that harbors those who insult the Prophet ﷺ will "face consequences"? Throwing around threats is allowed when it is against Muslims. Saying that banning women from college is 👍 is the ultimate blasphemy for the liberal.

What's this about sustainability ? The fake snow at the 2022 winter games was a pretty bad look in that regard. Also, while I found the part about LA 1984 being a success and LA 2028 possibility also being one due to there being existing infrastructure, I found the lack of discussion about Paris 2024, which is less than two years away and *far* from ready at all, a bit disappointing.
