Do you believe Quinn Hughes can be the best defense man in the NHL?

Don't understand this question. Didn't he just win the Norris for the best defense man in the NHL? LOL.

@@mcj44 I agree with Makar, but I don't and have never agreed with Fox. It's not that I don't think Fox isn't a great d-man, it's more like people out east (or people who just don't watch the Canucks regularly) don't realize how great Hughes is.
@mcj44
@mcj44 2 ай бұрын
@@baiqi44 Fox is consistently above a point per game while being slightly better defensively than Hughes, and he’s done it for 3 seasons now over Hughes’ 1 season of being a top 3 D. When looking at the actual track record rather than one season, give me Fox. But if Hughes repeats his 90 point great defensive season then give me Hughes.

I’ve been thinking the same thing, Makar was better earlier but Hughes trajectory is pretty insane. every year he gets so much better on both ends. I’m no hockey genius but one observation I’ve made is that it seems Makar is much better at capitalizing on chances while Hughes is better at creating chances. Once Hughes learns to be more consistent with finishing his plays he’ll get 100 points easy. If you watch his mix from last year there’s so many great plays he makes that don’t end up on the scoreboard

Makar might be better right now, but I think the style Hughes places will make him better overall in the long run. It’s just more sustainable then the north south speed game Makar plays. That being said, they’re both great players that are going to make the defensive positions better over time, and they’re a treat to watch 👌🏼

Well said, both guys are elite and while Makar may be better now, Hughes is putting his name in the conversation

I'm a Canucks fan so I'm a little biased. Hughes was on a crappy team until last year so I think he was underrated. With the new management and the Nucks hitting their stride he's going to have a few stomper years here.

Hughes might not be the fastest player in a straight line, but he's the best skater in the league. He breaks ankles with his deeks. He also breaks ankles with his slap shot... True story. I also think he's going to be the first player in the NHL to get back to back to back 100+ point seasons since Paul Coffey.

I think the main thing you're missing from Quinn is his ability to breakout in less than 5 seconds of creating a possession change. His first pass is elite and when there is no first pass he can just skate it up himself. Great video!

His breakout is undeniable. So at 97% success rate of 'starting' the play from deep in his zone, the play begins as good as it possibly can. Where'd I get that %??? Just by watching.

I would definitely expect him to regress a bit. His Points line is 84.5 and I’m smashing the under on that. very hard to duplicate a Norris quality year again as a young player with many ups and downs to come still

Maybe but this Canucks team added a few nice offensive pieces and their defense is basically the same minus Zadorov, I would go with the under too expecting about 80p points for him

That's a bad bet. He'll push 100 pts this season. He has more options up ice, and the PP will improve with the new additions. His shot will only improve as well. His peak is years away.
