Sterling will be a monster for Arsenal this season. Chelsea are so dysfunctional that he was ruined there. He's been saying over and over since he arrived that he's all in on the togetherness of the Arsenal squad and the Arsenal vision. In our system, he's gonna cook and come up with big moments in big games and tough spots against difficult lesser opponents, mark my words! You have to understand what he is and what he's not, and for Arsenal right now he's precisely what we've been missing sniffing out chances on the opposite side to Saka, and he's VERY hungry. This signing is exactly what we needed.
@FinsburyPhil2 ай бұрын
It's crazy how things can change in a few moments. Arsenal had a decent pre-season and transfer window. And now, ahead of an away NLD, Rice is suspended, Merino is out with a freak injury and they've sold their second-string midfield and attackers. So Havertz will have to play L8 and with Jesus injured, that means Trossard will have to play as a false 9. If they get one injury to those players during that game, they will have to rely on a 17 year old or playing someone out of position. Definitely still short of a central attacker - even one that isn't a £100+m world beater.
@aka_jr2 ай бұрын
I could see them start a front 5 of (left to right) Martinelli/Sterling, Havertz, Trossard, Ødegaard and Saka/Sterling, and I think that probably Nwaneri can come off the bench for Ødegaard? But at least with this scenario, you have two subs who could potentially replace 3 of the players who start. It’s still good depth, considering we’re missing so many players.

Personally I see Arsenal using a midfield of rice (playing a more defensive role), Ødegaard, and Havertz. Yes, in isolation it's not a bad deal. But it's not what Arsenal needs to raise the ceiling and go to the next level. Currently, the squad is too shallow to compete on 4 fronts. We've seen that in the last 3 seasons in fact. No cup runs, failure to secure 4th, then inability to get across the line due to injury and last year, early exits from cups and UCL run compromised the PL run-in. None of Merino, Calafiori or Sterling raise the ceiling. They might raise the floor a bit. But Arsenal need to add some serious firepower in the form of an elite LW who creates, scores and causes opponents to alter tactics to cope. Need a killer number 9 who puts fear into defenders and scores from nothing. Need a midfield maestro, like a Santi Cazorla type, a ball-playing genius. And the backup players need to be upgraded for greater depth and more rotation That's what Arsenal needs to go to a stratospheric level. This will never happen. They don't have the money and Arteta is wedded to this systematised football involving big, tall athletes not creative ball players. It's a system and squad designed to get top 4 on a regular basis. It is not intended to win multiple trophies. Man City has won 11 major honours in the last 5 seasons because they built a squad with the very intention of doing that. Arsenal might fall over the line at some point and win something. But it is clear that is not their primary objective. Get used to it and get used to not winning anything much in the next 10 years. And I include this proviso... even if City are docked points or relegated
@ArchieAshford2 ай бұрын
