biggest issue with it is when ur already down by 5 or more losses and then u have to finish ur set when you know it will go down once you are done. it literally makes you continue winning and working towards ur set end to see it go down

Too many people talk about the ranked system but no one brings up the real issue. That is, the lack of transparency in ranked. Blizzard hiding the ranks of enemy and friendly players makes it harder to evaluate if a fair match was given in ranked. The average rank between all players says nothing. If people want to hide rank while in match for competative advantage then players should be able to see ranks after the game is over.

This! I had games where i had completely new people with less than 30 hours in my plat games and while it is a metal rank, why does someone who obviously know nothing get to play in "higher" games. I lost so many games because of it.

They do it to prevent the toxicity that comes with visible ranks. I believe they are going to also add the range of skills within the match on top of the average which should solve the problem you're talking about, without allowing players to flame other players for their rank.

@@Casual314 If they only want to prevent toxicity then why not just hide rank while in a match but show the ranks in history when you press replay? Showing the range of skill helps nothing. The reason I suspect they would want to hide this information is to prevent people from realizing when the match maker has rigged the game.

I recently played a moba where you have two options to choose between " showing the players name or showing the heros name." So you would see "Ana,Zen,Hanzo,Soldier,DVA". It's also really fun to finish your set positive, like with maybe 5 wins and 3 losses, and see your rank stay the same or maybe even go down. My biggest annoyance with the card system is what eskay also pointed out: you can be at 99% above other players in this division, thus knowing one more game ranks you up, but for that to happen you have to complete a whole set of cards. The lack of instant feedback already feels so dumb for me, making me not want to play more after completing a card, it feels even worse when you're so close to reaching a rank up but you then go negative and never get that new peak or rank up.
@AreoSky

let me also say, it is REALLY debilitating to see you rank go down. that mean the game just told you. "you loss so many in a row that we tried to hide it from you but, nah you're shit". opposed to the whole "hey man, you lost a game. Tighten up a bit." its not a inspiring system.

In my opinion (plat 3-5 over the last 2 seasons, currently plat 1) the biggest problem is it seems that most games are a total roll by my team or the other which leads to either getting slammed which isn’t fun or absolutely steam rolling the other team which also isn’t fun, it’s very rare to get a well balanced game that I enjoy playing through and through whether I win or lose.

Here's an idea: Use compute to show the player how many wins they need in a row to reach a certain rank from where they currently stand. There could even be a statistics section that shows an estimation of how many games are required to be won to rank up given the player's current win rate. That way, players could have a more accurate sense about how much *time* needs to be invested to achieve a certain rank given their skill level, thus doing away with false expectations and hopes and also giving players a realistic picture of how much of an investment ranking up really is. That way, losses can all be mentally categorized as "part of the grind" required to rank up given one's WR. The same can be said of wins. This theoretically flattens the emotional response of winning *and* losing in the player's mind.

It's to prevent bad behaviors that would result from it. Things like leave-bullying where players will pressure teammates to leave to save their rank, leave-boosting where a friend will leave the game to help another friend climb, leave-trolling where a player will leave at the last minute to waste the time of everyone else in the match. Ultimately, leavers will benefit you in the long run since there are 5 potential leavers on the enemy team, but only 4 on yours (assuming you never leave).

For the new card, I was placed in nothing but masters games, which I then won 4 matches in a row. I finally reached Masters for the first time after only floating around in Plat to Diamond since Overwatch 1, but now that i've done that I am 100% not touching competitive until the season 9 rework because holy hell was that an exercise in frustration with the card system because there so many times where I could have been masters but then the game literally said "babe, it's time to go on a loss streak because of people throwing, leaving, and/or having the worst game of their life. 👉🏾👈🏾" . (My heart will forever go out to that Hanzo who didn't get their first kill until the very last second before the game ended). I actually encountered a literal bot purposely deranking accounts to sell at one point. 5W-15L is bad enough, but for the first two seasons it was 7W-20L and I literally don't know what sadistic person thought of that. I had to climb out of a gold again during season 1 cause I hadn't played in so long and got placed there and it was HELL. Something else I hope the new system touches on is high rank players being able to access and steamroll low rank lobbies because they're on a different role. I'm tired of seeing "Diamond Role Challenger" and "Masters Role Challenger" in Gold and Plat avg lobbies. Hell, I seen plat players in bronze and silver too. Sure, they got those ranks on another role, but it's unfair to those trying to climb the ladder. I've won games in these lobbies, I've lost games in these lobbies, but none of those games lasted longer than 10 minutes probably. It's always such a heavy steamroll that you don't know whether to doubt your skill as a player or blame the matchmaking. Some might say "well they might learn something from playing against high level players" no they won't. If they did they wouldn't seek out Reddit threads abt why the matchmaking is so bad. And I think that's one of the biggest problems with matchmaking is that when both low rank players and high rank players are saying the matchmaking is so bad, us trying to climb the ladder don't have any confirmation on whether we're making progress regardless of percentage values or SR. Are we ranking up because we won in a low MMR lobby or because we won against a team with 1 player two ranks above mine. I hope they fix this and they prioritize balanced matchmaking over quick queue times. I don't care waiting 3 extra minutes for a queue, sometimes I gotta take a piss anyways, I'd rather wait 5 minutes and have a good game I know I can influence equally with my team than letting the Plat DPS who's D/M on support roll my entire team in under 15 second's. TL:DR, MMR shouldn't be seperate for roles. If you're diamond, masters, etc on another role, you should be placed in those lobbies on other roles. One or 1/2 below or above is fine, but nobody wants to see "Masters Role Challenger" in a Plat 3 game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@Casual314
@Casual314 Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure the placement games are based on the rank of other roles now, which is how unranked to GMs can be completed in 5 games. But you probably have accounts that were established before this change happened so you have might still encounter players who are Masters in one role, but Plat in another. I can understand the reasoning since most players will play every role at around the same skill level, but some players genuinely are just terrible at a specific role.

My philosophy on rank is Are you here to win or are you here to learn It whats i make the distinction from a competitive player from a player who wants to win, one might think its about winning but to me that isnt a competitive mindset. Now another thing i take when talking about rank is what does a rank actually mean to you, what does a bronze, silver, gold, plat, diam, gm, tp500 represent. I ask these questions because for a rank system to exist you must know how to diferentiate from each ranking if the comunity has failed to make a distinction from one rank to another then that rank has no meaning, for example in LOL i can tell the difference from every rank on every division they have clear indication on what each rank represents so in overwatchs case what does each rank represent. My rankings has always been Bronze (No game sense - No aim) Players are learning the game and has no aim Silver (No game Sense - Avg aim) Players are learning the game and has aim Gold (Avg Game Sense Avg Aim) Players know the game and has decent aim Plat (Avg Game Sense- Innate Aim) Player know the game but have a talent to aim Diamond (Innate Game Sense - Innate Aim) Players have the talent to play and the talent to aim. Gm (Innate Game Sense- Consistent Aim) Players have the talent to play and has the consistency and understanding one where to Aim top 500 (Consistent Game Sense- Constent Aim) Players have a understanding on both aim and game. This has always been my way of viewing things on ranking even though i would slap a 500 word essay on each individual rank but the gist of it goes like this for simplicity. My issue with overwatch ranking system that i find is that it is very volitile and the ranking system is too inconsistent it is both slow on grind yet volitile enough to throw you a disporportionate match, the inconcistancy on each player makes it hard to determine what that player rank belongs to, the reason for divisions to exist is to mitigate that volatility but that function seems non-existent as players skips tiers entirely with the card update, i don't think its bad to know where you are but i find it more troubling on finding things to improve, say for example you improve you start winning only to then stumble a challenge abruptly you aren't given time to adapt the better players so you start loosing not knowing on why you lost you get back to the rank you were before not learning anything about the rank you were trying to adapt so by the time you learn that new skill you will continue to play badly because you are unlearning the things that you learned. What i enjoy something on LOL though was the system of promotion and demotion of rank with a buffer. It had its issues though as promotional events creates more pressure but the overall system does help in a better match quality.
@Casual314
@Casual314 Жыл бұрын
Yeah I think the fact that the matchmaker can you throw you into such a large range of skills makes it very difficult for players who are genuinely trying to learn to find things to improve at. It's difficult to establish what consistently works, if the matches themselves aren't consistent.

It's not enough that blizzard constantly shafts us with new skins/PVE/Amount of new heroes but on top of all that comp is completely draining. As much as this game iritates me it's still such a fun game since it's almost an anything can happen kind of game which is great for an online fps but Blizzard seems to try their damn best to try to ruin that fun. As a comp player going 5 and 0 or going 5 and 9 and staying in the same rank doesn't both times makes me feel like its all pointless in the end. On top of that having the ability to make your rank private is insane causing smurfs to run rampant or make you feel like you cant even measure as to why and who youre really losing to. It all culminates to an experience that while fun at times can also feel like its all for naught since who the hell knows where you'll rank after going on a good streak or a bad one.

For me. The worst part of ranked is the players. Too many people worried about k/d and not about playing with their team. Not realizing “I got 3 kills guys” was after the other team got 5 cause you let them 4v5. While running around the map. The people shitting on you every game because you aren’t a pro feels way worse than rank to be honest.

As someone thats only bronze on competetive because my hundreds of hours are spent on quickplay I say this. Had your "teammate(s)" wanted to help the team, they would massage what they want you to do in order to perform better/dont die so often and NOT tell you you suck no matter if its how well you aim, adapt to terrain, how you advance, go rouge/team up. Cause if they actually cared they would be helpfull rather than being angry, cause you will not learn how to be better getting told you suck when you are there to have fun and do your best to help a team. Im staying in quickplay so my experience isnt the cause of someone become so upset at me for having bad aim and/or using heroes that they dont agree with.

I also wonder how that new Ultimate rank above GM1 will affect the divisions overall. There are a few possibilities and I am going to assume that the current ranked system still uses an SR rating internally that ranges from 1-5000 with 1-1499 being Bronze, 1500-1999 being silver, 2000-2499 being gold, 2500-2999 being plat, 3000-3499 being diamond, 3500-3999 being masters and 4000+ being grandmaster, meaning GM1 starts at 4400. It was also not made entirely clear wether Ultimate will have 5 divisions or be just one singular rank. 1) The new Ultimate Rank will start at 4500 SR and just be a way to better differenciate what used to be the entiredy of GM1 to give GM1 players a new sense of progress. 2) The new Ultimate Rank will actually increase the range of SR by 500 or even 1000 with Ultimate starting at the old 4500. Though that begs the question how that'll impact the lower ranks as that will surely impact how much SR you gain. Could lead to Gold 1 players being put in Plat 5 because the skill barrier dropped to compensate for that new rank added on top. 3) The most unlikely scenario is that Ultimate replaces GM, GM replaces M, M replaces Dia, Dia replaces Plat, Plat replaces Gold, Gold replaces Silver, Silver Replaces Bronze 1-4 and Bronze will now be the former Bronze 5, because Bronze is now 1-999. I don't think that'll happen though as it is not only stupid, but they sold the idea of that Ultimate rank as being the new high GM1 players can strife for, as a way to better differenciate the top echelon of competitive players. This would just be adding Iron rank but in reverse. I saw a video once where it was explained that ranked system should clump the bottom 50% into as few ranks as possible and the top 50% into as many ranks as possible, basically advocating that in a 1-5000 rating range Bronze and Silver should make up the range of 1-2499 with Gold, Plat, Dia, M and GM being used to describe the range of 2500-5000. I understand the idea behind it, but retroactively applying this to Overwatch would probably be very contentious among the playerbase. Though I think Counterstrike did that back in the day which caused some player to drop significantly in their rank because what they were before that was then considered to be a lower rank under the adjusted system. Then again, Valve is very secretive about how you are ranked and when you'll rank up, so who knows. Might've also been a misrememberance, I haven't played CS:GO comp until late in the game's life cycle, so if that happened, it happened before I bothered.

From what I understood from the devs talking at Blizzcon, the intention is to better differentiate top level players, not to redistribute the entire skill ladder, and so the most likely option will probably be the first one you listed, simply creating a new rank out of the pool of GM1 players.

It feels horrible when you’re entire team just keeps getting stomped on, and you can’t do anything about it but try to get some kills and hope you get a better team next game just to get stomped on again, sometimes it feels rigged to me, with stuff like ‘client requested disconnect’ and a teammate or yourself gets kicked with no prior lag or indication you’re about to get kicked, I’ve been in multiple games where I’ve admittedly played trash then after we lose that game I play out of my mind the next and winning just to get a DC with no prior lag or indication, And I have to sign in again, and by the time I sign back in, the games over and I’ve got a suspension and a loss, if it’s not me, I’ve had the same situation where someone else has got kicked after we were winning and then not being able to join back losing us the game, half the time these situations happen when the previous game I’ve had a bad game

Idk if comp 3.0 will be better since there will be narrow or wide groups. Are we going to see an increase of smurfs in wide groups? What I’m surprised about is how little the company’s ownership behind the game is talked about. As (formerly) part of Activision, for a long time Blizzard has been a division of a publicly traded company. This entails a lot of baggage e.g. financial performance pressure; you have to make increasing profits year-to-year or at least prove to the markets that you strive to. Coming from game development myself, I know for certain that this pressure is felt in every operation of the company you work with and, when talking game-specificly, especially on those systems that are tied to the monetization of a game. Matchmaker is very much one of those systems. So I leave all of you with a question to reflect upon; if your job security and professionalism is on the line, would you design a system that benefits the company (e. g. makes the player spend more time than necessary with the game, grind the game, to create more opportunity for in-game sales) or a system that as quickly and as efficiently as possible places you onto your corresponding rank? At the end of the day, which system do you think you would be asked to design?
@Moorlord
@Moorlord Жыл бұрын
If you are interested in researching the subject further, look up Bayesian skill scoring frameworks and/or algorithmic handicapping in online games. There are active patents filed by Activision in the U.S., e.g. one from 2015, that describe the application of these systems in matchmaking.

A very accurate description of the nature of publicly-traded companies. In addition to being profit-driven, which isn't a bad thing since all companies are businesses at the end of the day, publicly-traded companies also tend to focus on short-term profits since that's what many of the investors are there for. Investors can push bad decisions because they know they won't be involved once the long-term consequences actually manifest. This is even more relevant for Blizzard since the change to the free-to-play model where player engagement is the name of the game.

There is just too few people in the highest ranks. Masters is like what 5-10% of the playerbase? The matchmaker doesnt like putting stacks against randoms because its not fair, so probably you 2 were the only similar sr stacks in your region. ngl when I solo queue I usually see this alot. 4stacks are (no offense) cancer outside of metal ranks and shouldn't even exist if you solo queue.
@Casual314

This is probably going to be a fairly unavoidable occurrence grouping in Masters. There just aren't enough groups in your region in the Masters skill range. One way to avoid this is to simply wait a bit longer before you queue a new game, but even then it might not work. The good thing is that the MMR system takes skill difference into account, so if the other stack is significantly better than your stack, your losses won't result in as big of an MMR loss.

After getting to bronze 1 I won 27 games in a row and I still was not allowed into silver. It demotivated me so much I stopped playing the game entirely. Edit: Also I think hidden MMR is the stupidest thing I've ever seen in competitive modes. If a persons hidden MMR is platinum but he is silver, just make the person platinum. The only reason it is there to begin with is for the person to grind the rank. IMO if you see a rank they should be that rank and if a person is too good for the rank, let them skip the grind and just bump them up.

Now I'm almost in a demi-lost streak when I always go down, because most of my games are 5 and 5 or 5 and 6. Now I'm currently in silver 1 back, even if I think I'm miles better than I was when came out to the game, doesn't make sense. My teammates make mistakes, but so do I, and that's not that often to justify this. Strange, but feels good to know the type of players in each rank and the pick rate of certain heros. Funnily enough, I see more Tracers in low gold/silver than I saw in high gold/Plat. As I learning Tracer myself, this make me think deep.

The uprank example is so true. The game tells you that you are almost at the next Skill Tier, you are Gold 1 99% and you win 4 games with 0 losses. There is no way in hell you wouldn't be rated plat 1 at that exact moment. But in order to officially call yourself a plat player, you need to get that 5th win or else the game will not tell you, that you are plat 5 (unless you stop playing for the rest of the season at that point). Next game, a loss. Okay, little bump in the road, next one will be the one. Another loss. Nothing to worry about, how hard can a win be, right? Another loss. Okay, maybe I should stop now and if the ranks would've updated after each game I probably would've, but I need just this one win to finally be Plat. Next loss. Grrrrrr... but I'm still good, that was a close one. Next one will be it. 4-4. Oh no, my dream of officially becoming a plat player is now in serious jeopardy. Now I could still stop, it's only 10pm, I have enough time for one more game, but I'm not sure stopping now for the rest of the season will put me in Plat 5. I need that win. And now it's 4-5 with 3 of those losses being games that you wouldn't have played if the update was after each game. That's the insidious part of the system only giving you an update after 5 wins or 15 losses. The inconsistency of the updates. It will take between 5 and 19 games to get an update. At best you go 5-0 in your set, but at worst you go 4-15 (draws will count towards losses btw) and at SUPER worst you started 4-0 and ended 4-15. I almost had this back to back. When the rank inflation happened in S3(or was it S4? You know what I mean) I played my first matches as a D4 support and went 5-0. It SHOT me up to M4, which actually made me go "No, that is not my rank, that is way too high, that is bullcrap". And after that I went 3-15, though not 3 wins then only losses, the wins were peppered in here and there between the losses. Back to D4 for me. But those 18 games were some of the most miserable experiences I ever had in ranked. At some point I didn't play to win, I played to update, I was in a mood and mindset that was detrimental to any competitive enviroment. Oh I most definetly threw some of those games unintentionally, but if it hadn't been for the delayed update system I probably wouldn't have played those games. I would've stopped soon after hitting a loss streak or a derank and just be done for the day. Knowing that even by going on a win streak and getting the update through winning, not losing, I didn't feel any excitement for the few wins I actually managed to pull off. They were a relief in the sense of "at least something good happened today" but none of the wins felt like progress to me. I also have an alt account on which I like to play heroes I don't play as much as on my main, like I'm an Ana main who dabbles with Moira, but would only switch to Moira on my main if I feel like the situation calls for it, whereas on that alt I would instalock Moira and then maybe swap to Ana if it really doesn't work. I went 4-0 or 4-1 during my sets on multiple occasions on that account only to be hit by a massive loss streak afterwards. So I know too well how bad it feels to be just one win away from an update and then keep losing, to delude yourself into thinking "Just one more game, this will be it, this will be the win" despite mentally not being able to play well at that point and therefore wasting progress by playing anyways. That account is also hardstuck in mid plat it seems, so it was doubly frustration to be a low diamond rated player and being unable to carry mid plat games, that should in theory be beneath me. If anyone says "well then you're obviously not a diamond player" please explain to me why I'm able to hold my own in diamond, why I haven't deranked to mid plat despite playing ranked regularly. Anyways, I'm excited for the new ranked system, which seems to be a carbon copy of what Valorant does, but hey, that system at least isn't why I hate playing Valorant, I hate playing Valorant because of the game itself.
@Casual314
@Casual314 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experiences, I can empathize with the frustration, but it's good that you can recognize that sometimes you lose because you aren't playing well. Indeed the current system has the tendency to "exploit" people into borderline addictive behaviors. While of course it is every individuals responsibility to regulate themselves, I think it would be best to make sure that the system itself minimally encourages that kind of behavior, which is a big reason I'm looking forward to the update.

Bronze 5 and GM1 are disproportionate because there's no where else for players to go beyond those ranks. I think even in OW1, Bronze 5 was 0-1000 SR while every other division was 100 SR. Because I'm aware when I'm playing bad and aren't managing. But this losestreak was like the game hates me. Every game, no matter what I did, enemies did better and won. (I played tank between diamond and plat). And I was deranked from diamond 5 to plat 3. My actual skill level is diamond 4-5 and I'm sitting there for a long time. I'm playing 300-400 games per season and staying there. So I understand, that I'm usually lose 3-5 games per placement. And i know about my weakneses. Some games I can't win. But when I've got so huge losestreak it makes me paranoid. I just don't believe that it happened accidentally. Your content is like therapy after stressful games in ranked. Thanks.

Haha I'm glad to hear that my content could be considered therapeutic. I've also been deranked entire divisions before, and obviously it's pretty frustrating. I've always made it back to where I originally was, and I just try to remember that at the end of the day, it's just a medal in a video game and not to take it too seriously.

I agree with most of this video except what you say at 13:30. If a game is plat and you have gold and diamond players, I don't think it's as big of a deal as you make it out to be. Metal rank players are not hugely different from one another and the range of skills is not as high as you think. That's why blizzard allows you to group up with someone 2 ranks lower than you until you get to masters/gm because only at that skill range does each division start to matter more. In fact they did an interview a few months back that said that steamrolls happen more often when the teams are nearly equally balanced. All you need to do in each competitive game is outplay the enemy team, not focus on the rank differences between players, as it often does not matter as much as people think.
@Casual314
@Casual314 Жыл бұрын
Interesting insight, and it is of course true that regardless one should always only focus on playing well. I'm not prepared to quantify how different metal rank players are, and I would say that once you're high enough rank, all the ranks below start to feel pretty similar. I wouldn't say that the difference is negligible though, I would predict that a full team of Gold 5 would lose pretty reliably to a full team of Diamond 1, perhaps with a win probability as high as 70%, but maybe wrong and it's actually 55% in which case it wouldn't be very different.
@neilmallick20

@@Casual314 I agree that the Gold 5 team would almost certainly lose to the Diamond 1 team since the Diamond team would just capitalize on all the mistakes the Gold 5 team was making. I wasn't implying that there is no difference, just that as long as the teams are balanced the way blizzard claims they are (each role has a corresponding similarly-ranked player on the each team) that it's not necessarily bad to have Gold players playing with Diamond players. I would say that balance is especially important for tank as I find that if the tanks are disparate enough the game is basically lost. That's the only role when I would say that they should be very tight in terms of rank similarity.

im hoenstly scared to go into ranked but qp is already if not more sweaty then rank is and its so damn draning specily when your on the team that gets no less then 3 kills each and gets decimated by a 5 stack with 30+ kills and no way to take/ defend the objective

I like that you can gain the equivalent of 100ish SR from a single win when you're playing well on a big win streak, that's something that was genuinely frustrating about OW1. I would watch content and practice in QP to improve at the game, but then even on a 55~60% win rate, you can be stuck for quite some time when you're only getting 15~20 SR per game.

What if we go back to "open" competitive play. No more role queue. BUT - we apply debuffs to certain componsitions, for example: After the 2nd tank and more, tanks in the team take an extra 5, 8, 10% dmg After the 3rd dps in the group, dps in the team deal 5,8, 10% less dmg After the 3rd healer, healers in the team heal 5,8,10 less dmg That way you still have the flexibility of open queue and being able to switch to a different role without being punished that much. At the same time if your ONLY tank does not know how to counter your enemy tank you can just switch yourself, etc. Theres been so many games where I just wished I could change roles but I couldn't. This is why I play mostly open play these days, but it gets boring when the game turns into 3tanks and 2 healers. If the enemy plays more than one tank you are almost forced to do so or most likely lose the game

Interesting idea, but introduces even more complexity that I doubt the balance team would be able to manage.
@peblazquez

@@Casual314 i mean, it is all debuffs so not so much balance to do I suppose? If you don’t want the debuff, just play a balanced composition. The only thing I can think of is a troll constantly switching to apply the debuff

I agree. I actually played Open queue comp more than regular this season, but I also agree about 2 or more tanks in open queue gets a bit reminiscent of old overwatch days where more damage mitigation is happening than actual damage.

Honestly with a new rank in between GM and T500 why not add a rank lower than bronze
@Casual314
@Casual314 Жыл бұрын
Inevitably, players are going to pool at the bottom, regardless of how many ranks you add because you literally can't go any lower than the bottom. Devs are probably reluctant to do it because the transition period is going to be discouraging for a lot of players in those ranks.

This is most games. Only exceptions I’ve seen. T3 arena (if you are gold you are matched with gold- low plat) Marvel snap. You get matchmade with people around your collection/ skill level. Biggest deficit I’ve had was me - 200~. Opp - 320 It’s about strat tho. So with good strategic planning and good deck building you can beat most people. But you’re matched around your skill level and win ratio. Call of duty mobile specifically too. Their MM is good asf. You literally CANNOT play ranked outside of your ranking. I’m currently legendary. I can’t play ranked with my girlfriend even though she’s master iii. Worse matchmaking. ANY NBA 2K… MyTEAM specifically …. No ranking system. A bunch of people who spend money on the game. Like my first my team game this year. 2K24… I had gold players and like 3 emeralds. As I just started that myteam… this was last year when it first came out… but imagine my surprise. When I see pink diamonds and galaxy opals. What happened to ACCURATE SKILL matchmaking? What happened to a grind? What happened to prestige rewards? Milestones?? All games now are either including battle passes, battle royale, gacha, P2W weapons/characters, Pay walls, Etc. Gaming used to be cool before it was mainstream. Weird to say. But gaming was better when we were “nerds” for picking up a controller and playing anything but madden😭

Honestly for me its just MMR system. I was a support main in early OW got up to 3980 SR was my peak then i quit came back to OW2 wanted to try dmg started in gold peaked at diamond and now stuck at plat. You might be like "Oh you wanna rank up? are you gonna complain" actually no. I don't think i deserve plat. Because either enemy team dominates or my team gets dominated. I just miss that head to head games back in OW. I wanna de rank so i can at least play around my skill level but game forces me to go on win streaks or lose streaks. I am literaly stuck in plat 5-4. And i feel like enemy team is way better than me so i am usually like "wth i am doing in this elo?" i hope they fix that.

I played 4 games with a buddy of mine in open queue comp, for some reason it wouldn't let us play in normal comp, anyway after the 4 games he got placed platinum 4, i had to do the last placement on my own, so I did and I dropped the greatest game with ana possible. I got placed silver 2. I've already decided Blizzard can't make their game worth a crap, but this really made me mad.

The game uses your Quickplay games and performance to estimate your initial MMR, that's probably why you can get two different ranks playing with the same people.

Agree with the lack of transparency being a big problem and I am also optimistic for 3.0, but there's a lot of idealism about the SR system of old.... it wasn't great, many of the issues outlined here existed prior to the card system. The example of being "99% to plat but then losing" happens in the old SR system too. I could be 17 SR from plat and lose 3 in a row and be in the same scenario, in fact that is commonplace in almost every competitive game. I personally thought the OW1 system enabled getting hard stuck to a much higher degree. Maybe it's just me, but I also HATED seeing ur SR plummet in OW1 if you got rolled, felt horrible to me. Final note, as someone who is currently GM1 on dps and support, I have never had a plat or even masters player in my game... EVER. I could just be lucky however. Great video, just thought I would respectfully disagree on some points!
