Vowles seems like a pretty intelligent operator. I think he just isn’t worrying too much at this stage about the second seat before the new regulations. He has to build pretty much an entire team which is operating in the 80’s on a shoe string budget.

Early 00’s. Saying Williams is operating in the 80s a bit of a stretch. I’ve been watching the downfall of Williams for over 23 years. They were still super competitive and operationally savvy technically advanced team in the early - mid 00s. But truth is writing was on the wall by the end of the 90s for Willies lads. With the direction f1 since then took with ever increasing budgets! Madone! But I get your point 👍🏾

I've seen some information that Daniel was offered a seat for 2024 at Zandvoort and Tsunoda soon thereafter, so they signed both before they saw how good Lawson was and before Daniel was hurt. But always easy to know what to do in hindsight. I suspect it will all come down to how Daniel, Tsunoda and Perez perform 2024, if anyone of them perform badly there would probably be some changes in the team setup.

Liam was great in Zandvoort on debut in super tricky conditions. I used to think that track was mickey mouse but a bit of rain made it seem really intimidating for any driver let alone a driver on debut. He was dropped in suddenly for FP3 then finished the race, and has driven well since. I’m a DannyRic fan but I look forward to Liam getting another opportunity in the near future; I suspect it will be with Alpha Tauri part way through ‘24, or a full time drive with who knows in ‘25.

I believe, should the rumours about Lance Stroll stepping down due to lack of motivation come true, Honda will want to move Tsunoda into Aston Martin in advance of the Honda Engine Partnership so Tsunoda can get his foot in the door and gain familiarity with the Silverstone outfit's operations. Liam Lawson absolutely deserves a drive in F1. I've always considers him to be massively underrated. He should have won DTM as well if we are being honest. Liam Lawson not having a drive in F1 vs certain other drivers (we all know who they are) just shows that being the best outright driver is not enough in F1. There are absolutely drivers in F1 right now who are damaging F1's desired reputation of having a grid made up of the best drivers in the world.

@AZ-zn9lgI think you're underestimating Danny Ric. The fact that he could deliver a front row time after only a handful of laps in the RB19 shows that he still has what it takes, certainly in comparison to an ailing Pérez that can barely drive consistent even if he doesn't have a bad day. If Pérez doesn't improve his consistency or even loses his current second place in the championship, he's guaranteed to become an ex-Red Bull driver by the end of 2024, if not earlier, to be replaced with either Danny Ric, who, after a full year at AT to properly get back in the groove is the most likely candidate, or Lawson, though the latter is more likely to get an AT seat, imo.

Red Bull's Treatment of Liam Lawson 00:00 Red Bull's decision to overlook Liam Lawson for a 2024 race seat despite his impressive stand-in performances has sparked outcry. Lawson had seized the chance to impress AlfaTari with his calm demeanor and strong race performances, even outperforming Yuki Sonoda in some races. Ricardo and Sonoda's Selection 01:30 Red Bull's choice to retain Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Sonoda for 2024 was influenced by various factors, including financial support from Honda and the desire for a blend of youth and experience. Ricciardo's commercial appeal and satisfactory performance in his limited races contributed to his selection. Lawson's Potential Loan Move 03:01 Liam Lawson's impressive performances as a stand-in for Red Bull have raised the possibility of a potential loan move to another team for the 2024 season. Williams has been mentioned as a potential destination, but the situation remains uncertain. Reasons Behind Lawson's Sideline Year 04:29 There are speculations regarding why Liam Lawson might spend a year on the sidelines. One possibility is that he has a contractual guarantee for a 2025 race drive with Red Bull. Alternatively, it could be because Williams may not want a one-year loan deal. Williams' Evaluation of Sergeant 05:53 Williams is evaluating Logan Sargeant's performance and wants to see if he can improve and secure a seat for 2024. Sargeant's struggles, coupled with Lawson's emergence, have created an interesting dynamic in Williams' decision-making process. Alternatives to Sergeant 07:18 While Logan Sargeant is under evaluation, there is a lack of appealing alternatives for Williams. Felipe Drugovich and Michael Schumacher have been mentioned but may not be the ideal choices. Lawson's strong performances make him a potential short-term alternative. Sargeant's Struggles 08:41 Logan Sargeant's struggles, including multiple crashes and underperformance, have put pressure on Williams. His inability to consistently match teammate Alex Albon's performance is a concern for the team's Constructors' Championship position. Lawson's Uncertain Future 10:04 Liam Lawson's future in Formula 1 remains uncertain, with the possibility of spending a year on the sidelines. His career momentum, built through strong stand-in performances, may go to waste if he doesn't secure a race seat for 2024.

Perez needs to be shown an 8 race plan, in that he needs to be within a certain percentage of Max by race 8 or he swaps with Ricardo and Perez gets the rest of the year to find a different seat. Then Lawson comes in and takes the AT seat. If Ricardo doesn’t get Perez seat, then Tsunoda gets the same deal with having to outscore Ricardo, or Lawson gets his seat.

I have the idea Tsunoda and Riccardo were already signed for 2024 way before the announcement in Japan. And while Red Bull is known for ripping up contracts in season breaking it before the start of a season is another thing. I think the reserve driver option is best when there is a garentee of a seat in 2025 when Perez will be out. For Williams it is too risky. If Marko has any ideas on a driver swap in 2024 they will loose him and have the struggle to find a driver in season.

RBR's in a dilemma and we all can't assume what's good until we see what Daniel Ricciardo can achieve in his return to AT. No mention of Sargeant being an American when F1 is starting to blow up in America and everyone is trying to grab a piece of that lucrative marketing pie is sort of ignoring one of the (if not the) biggest elephant in the room. It's a huge factor to trying to keep Sargeant, cause even if he doesn't do super well, Williams can still try to market the "home talent" at all three US GP's and sell a ton of merch. At the same point, it was mentioned if he keeps crashing he effectively zeroes out his marketing worth, which is true. I genuinely think if he manages to finish the rest of the GP's without crashing and just beats Albon once in quali or the race, Williams will give him another chance.

Thinking that Williams could give sargeant a contract next year but with a break clause for performance related issues. Then if Sargeant doesn't perform and williams knows they are going to look for a new driver at the end of 2025, they could switch to Lawson if they think he will do a substantially better job. Then that still means Red Bull will get him for presumably the alphatauri seat for 2025.

They had to give the seat back but they definitely will fight to keep him. If the team can’t land Lando or someone like that Liam would get the number 2 seat at the top team with Max. Otherwise they will put him back in the seat with Alpha. They just need to convince him to hang on just a bit more as a reserve. He’s already better than Yuki and current Ric. IMO. Depends who performs worst out of Ricciardo, Tsunoda and Perez, right? If it's Ricciardo, Lawson will replace him at AT, perhaps even mid season. If it's Checo, the better performer of Yuki and Daniel could be moved up mid season, and Lawson may fill the hole. If it's Tsunoda, he may become reserve in 2025, before trying a move to Aston Martin in 2026. Danny Ric could be as good as Checo but he just hasn't had the time to prove that. Yuki fits where he is now and no need to do anything with him. A year ago the story was Alpha Tauri would be sold. No surprise they retained the two most financially attractive drivers. Lawson is a realistic performance pressure on both Alpha Tauri drivers, so 1+1 deal is the most Red Bull will let Williams have. On the flip side Williams can’t afford for a driver to have less upgrades, just because he breaks them faster than they can be manufactured, that could limit their points score. If the market was more open the threat of Lawson driving for a direct points competitor would make this happen faster. But it’s not and Williams can afford to wait on Sargent’s next few races while they negotiate. There’s likely a cash stream for COTA & Vegas that they’ve budgeted for that needs Sargent in the car. Do well there, this might grow, do badly and it might evaporate. Time is on Williams’ side here.
