This is as much a reminder to myself as a comment to anyone else - If you feel the need to respond to total strangers on the internet about things you disagree with, who may or may not physically exist, you are losing your shit. You might have a bunch of freedoms to express yourself, but it will dwell on you, and you have to manage notifications that will pop up YEARS from now where some person might just say "err no ur wrong" or maybe "haha true", and the worst part is you might instantly remember an entire online discussion between strangers better than actual things between friends and family from your immediate life.

Maybe "stream of consciousness" isn't the best term for this. It's more like a puddle of shallow thoughts you keep stepping in. Some people even convince themselves they aren't getting wet because they have an umbrella. The worst part is when these people come to your home and get mad at you for telling them to take their soaking wet shoes off before walking around on the nice carpet. It's okay if you get your feet wet every now and again, but it's not healthy when you don't notice. That's how you turn your problems into everyone else's.

You know once I wrote it down, I realized the reason we identify with ego sometimes is because we always want to be right so we’re biased. So it’s always better to take a neutral approach or at least be present enough to make a decision. That’s actually crazy idk how I didn’t realize that

This is literally every social media platform, it simplifies communication to such degree that even the slightest difference causes discomfort. It encourages people to find a ton of labels and little boxes to encase themself in and never divert from because it becomes a moral requirement

Heh, I thought about that being the case and I saw a major downside for me personally. I'll often go into the comment sections of vids like this one and click on people's profile pictures if they seem interesting. I do it all the time in case I run into a hidden gem, a channel I like that I never knew existed. In fact i did it with you Randall. Went and checked out your channel. If everyone was just "Anon" with a bunch of numbers behind their name id be so so screwed! 😅

I dunno Jordies... The QLD election is coming up and I have spent the last week campaigning for Labor (not affiliated just someone who cares and wants to chip in) sharing what ever I can find that I think will have the most impact and hoping that what I can share will be shared again on other platforms. This is the only reason I have spent so much time there this last week and a half and I fucking hate it. It is poisonous as is being online more than one needs to be but I feel compelled for this specific purpose. The thing is here that your argument can be said for any forms of social media including YT so I'm wondering why you single out Reddit over other platforms? I mean you could have singled out facebook or any of the plethora other brain mincing mincing mediums on the internet but again you chose Reddit and I find this curious. In summary Rediit, facebook, youtube, whatever just being online is what damages people not just specifically Reddit. And for people who are ready for a change but cant find their way out of the internet trap try getting yourself a dumb phone, use cold turkey blocker for windows , stay focused for android or any of the other internet/webpage blocking apps out there. Just do it and get off line for a while not just fucking reddit.

Like it can happen but it's pretty rare and it's drowned out by a sea of low-effort trash. I know it sounds obvious but if you ever want to learn more about a niche subject matter instead of going to the subreddit try reading a fucking book or other resource written by an actual expert

It depends on which subreddits you hang out on. For very particular niche interests and hobbies, it's great. Almost as good as the old BBCode forums and message boards we used to have in the 2000s; a group of like-minded geeks, geeking out together about their special interest. The problem subreddits are the general-interest and non-specific ones where the general userbase just sort of mingle, like Ask Reddit and r/memes. There's no focus, no respect for others, and the most popular posts are the ones that pander to the lower common denominator.

Ahhhh yes, the absolute barrel-scraping cesspools of the internet: Reddit, Twitter and KZbin COMMENTS. Shit like BrEaDtuBE is only possible through the reality stripping collective imaginarium of the internet, and could not possibly survive in the medium of real-world interaction. ... Anyway. Do a main channel video on this one dude. You could even put it under the guise of 'environmental activism' given that our everyday 'environment' is very often pretty much the internet... And it's clearly in a state of sustained unconscious degradation...! The moment I realised that approximately 75% of my thoughts are irrelevant and generally worth disregarding was as profound as the pre-frontal cortex upgrade post age 25. And I wish more people spoke about it being a choice people can make, an awareness people can develop.
