Why Regular Clones HATED Clone Commandos

The clone wars were by far the most deadly war the galaxy had seen up until that point. As we all know, war is a high stress environment. While this can strengthen the bonds between individuals within a group, this can also lead to increased animosity towards others, particularly if they are seen as different, or even sympathetic to the enemy's cause.
Even among the genetically identical clones, this soon became the case. Many Clone Commandos and regs began to actively despise one another, with this division leading well into the Imperial era.
This video will briefly explore the differences between the two groups as well as the flashpoints that led to increased divisions during the clone wars.

We must first explore the clone commando project and how it differed from the regs and the ARC troopers.
Shortly after the Kaminoans started building the secret clone army of the Galactic Republic, a special forces unit was designed to complement the operational efficiency of the new armed force. However, exactly how this would be done led to severe disagreements between Jango Fett and the Kaminoans.
Jango Fett insisted that he train Advanced Recon Commandos to fill this highly specialised role. The Kaminoans eventually accepted but had little faith in Jangos ARC trooper project. And So they compromised with Fett. The bounty hunter could train ARC troopers personally, while the Kaminoans would go on to start the clone commando project.
Similar to the ARC troopers, they would still have greater independence andmental capacity than the normal clone soldiers. However, the Kaminoans were deeply paranoid about giving their products too much freedom or independence. Thus, they were programmed to be much more loyal to the republic and would execute orders without hesitation. As we shall see later on, this seemingly contradictory programming wreaked havoc upon the Clone Commandos mental wellbeing, and would cause many problems after the rise of the Empire.
In order to reflect the culturally significant Kaminoan native Aiwha hunting pods, the first group of clone commandos were split into squads of four clones known as "pods." Besides undergoing flash training, the commando squads were divided between the Cuy'val Dar. This group of professional mercenaries provided specialised training for the clone commandos, including teamwork, infiltrations, techniques of destruction, and asassination. It was here that the clone commandos began to diverge from the rest of their brothers. Through the teachings of the mandalorian mercenaries and their independent thought, the clone commandos began to heavily identify with the mandalorian warrior culture, learning their songs, culture and sometimes even their language. Many Clone Commandos saw their Mandalorian trainers as similar to their fathers and would remain just as loyal to them as they did the Republic.
Before the war, the regs looked up to the clone commandos and they were seen as almost a thing of legend. Some even believed that the clone commandos could win the war all by themselves.
However, the clone wars would soon change all of this.
The battle of Geonosis was a harsh wake up call for both the regs and the clone commandos. Many had believed war to be honourable and noble. Some believed it would be over in a matter of days. The loss of so many on geonosis soured many clones' views of noble warfare, the Jedi and even the Republic. However, in the vast majority of cases, their programming was strong enough to keep them from deserting, despite their reservations.
As I have explored before in this video here, the Battle of Geonosis was the dumbest battle. The Jedi generals messed up on almost every single level. I won't go into too much depth here as we have already spoken about this in previous videos, but in brief, the Jedi used the Clone army as though they were droids. Instead of placing them in defensive positions or using their overwhelming air superiority, the clones were marched across a flat plane to be slaughtered by incoming blaster fire. Despite only lasting a few hours the casualties rates on geonosis were among the highest of any battle of the whole war.

Originally clones were programmed to revel in battle, to the point that they even loved fights between groups of clones because they viewed other clones as worthy opponents and therefore a better fight. They've really evolved over time.

I've thought about this too. The jedi would be how Ahsoka was an advisor to the 332nd - advisors, but not their generals. It would distance the jedi just slightly from the war effort. Maybe save a bit of their image

@@AlexM-fv8lp that and it would make a more effective fighting force. Jedi are trained to be peacekeepersy diplomates and to be passionate. Clones were bred and trained for war. They just make the better strategies overall.

I personally love clone commandos. Maybe that opinion is also affected by how fun they are in battlefront 2, but I also just think their cool and I'm about to get the rereleased republic commando.

To be fair to the Jedi, they aren't soldiers! They weren't supposed to be generals leading armies. Everything had to be thrown together at the last minute. Everything was only organized after the battle. They had to salvage what they could from a bad situation. If they just pulled out, the Republic would look weak and the CIS would have their droid army. Yes, the Separatists still got their army, but the Jedi at least made an attempt and actually came close to capturing Dooku and the Death Star plans. This would have definitely thrown a major wrench in the plans of the Sith. Given how close they came to success despite being so unprepared, imagine how close they would have come if they had the experience of their later selves.

My ideal lightsaber would be mace windu’s lightsaber. I personally think both were right and both were wrong: it would have been good of the commandos to continue honoring their Mandalorian heritage and warrior-poet culture, while also recognizing that the reg.’s may not appreciate it, and that there may be times and places where its openness should be dialed back a bit; at the same time, the reg.’s should have seen that sharing certain cultural aspects with a people does not make them the same, whether in goal, attitude, or allegiance, and that they were brothers all, all striving toward the same causes-just by different means and in their own, unique ways (however, some misgivings and a note of hesitancy toward Mandalorian culture after such events, when held in moderation and decency with a touch of understanding, could be seen as appropriate and to be in-order).

They needed to race against time on geonosis, it was a chance to stop alot of CIS leaders, the Commandos shouldn't have all been deployed but it was an important planet.

I agree but the Jedi proved that they lacked strategy by having commandos charge in as shock troops to support the main infantry assault. (something far more suited for an ARC) rather than having them slip behind enemy lines and eliminate the Separatist leadership the Republic/Jedi was so eager to kill or capture. This is exactly what Delta Squad did on Geonosis. Funny how they didn’t get a single direct order from a Jedi that particular mission. Delta Squad was also one of the rare squads to have survived the battle of Geonosis intact and casualty-free..
