I find the Republican obsession with masculinity a little weird. They hold Trump up as this icon of masculinity, but I struggle to think of anything especially stereotypically manly he's actually done. He's not an outdoorsman, he's never fought, he can't hold a family together, he has no athletic achievements, he can't face up to his responsibilities, he relies on others to fight his battles for him and he's oversensitive. Frankly, I think if it weren't for the rhetoric he spews, he'd be regarded as exactly the kind of man the Republicans make fun of.

You said everything I have been saying to my friends and family since the convention! Thank you! It’s really important for men to speak out about these issues and healthy masculinity. I appreciate this video so much and agree with all of your points. Tim Walz is the type of healthy masculinity role model that Americans need! He will be a Vice President who supports everyone - whether you look like him or not, whether you pray or love like him or not. I seriously can’t believe people think tampon Tim is an insult - he wanted students to have health and safety products in schools so they can focus on learning and not have to miss school when they have their period if they can’t afford supplies. Shame on everyone who thinks that children shouldn’t have access to free hygiene products and food so they can focus on learning at school!!!! That’s seriously the weakest insult ever, and shows where their hearts really are. Also shame on anyone making fun of him for being an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community and being the faculty advisor to a program that supports love and acceptance for all students so everyone can learn safely. Why do republicans want bullying and violence and school shootings to continue?!

I actually think it is the joy itself. Trump's masculinity is all about misery. About how miserable it is to be a man and how miserable society is to them. It's why Harris' joy is so triggering to them cause it threatens their world view. For many right wing propagandists it also threatens their bottom line. They rely on misery and cynicism to make money. Trump is a very miserable individual. I don't really think I've ever seen him happy. Even when he was president he was all paranoid, stressed and miserable.

The "ignorant questioner" thing is a little loopy. Back in middle school I had a teacher who took a moment to explain to us all (in sex ed class, naturally) the difference between ignorance and naivety. Essentially the distinction between refusing to learn vs never having had the opportunity to learn. And that if someone comes to you with naivety you should explain with patience, but if they come at you from ignorance you should take them to task. Even if Walz went to a Springsteen concert and asked "Do you think they'll play Jack and Diane?" that's just naive and you can simply and patiently correct them. But when Matt Walsh asks "What is a woman?" THAT'S an ignorant questioner.
@NovaSaber2 ай бұрын
I'd say Matt Walsh is a cynical questioner. He doesn't ask that because he's interested in anyone else's answer, he asks hoping they won't be able to answer (and then deceptively edits the video to make it look like they didn't answer).

I think it's something along those lines they meant, it's fairly common in ads and media aimed at kids to have parents who ask seemingly stupid questions but I don't understand how that turned into a culture war thing. Like that's just a trope that exists in anything aimed at kids because when you're young it feels like your parents are horribly behind the times and obviously media aimed at kids will reflect that. If media pointing out that adults don't keep up with trends offends you then you have to be incredibly insecure, most people over 30 have no trouble admitting it and a lot of people do it on purpose because it actually becomes funny when you're an adult.
