Single childless lady here. I'm the one who works 'til 5 pm or later so my co-workers with kids can leave earlier to take them to soccer practice and make them dinner. I'm the one who pitches in for every wedding and baby shower and have yet to receive anything in return. I'm the one who buys the Girl Scout cookies, band candy, etc to support the kids' activities. I'm the one who pays more in taxes because I get far fewer tax breaks. Single people are the ones who enable parents to have fulfilling lives with their children, so JD Vance and others who think like him can GTFO.

You and people like you serve a very valuable role and deserve to be honored rather than belittled and despised. Vance is just pulling out the fascist's playbook to belittle and demonize the “other” in the “them vs us” game. Voters need to wake up - you will get the government you deserve. As Homo Sapiens, raising children takes extensive effort and time. As our culture, society, and technology advance it takes even more effort to raise flexible and competent citizens for our society. Vance is just another example of our failed efforts at this task. Anthropologists have noted that the extended lifespan of humans is a real advantage to our species because grandparents are often available to take on some of the burden of this task. Vance and the MAGA GOP want you to pop out as many kids as possible; however, stand on a platform of government that will provide few if any programs to aid parents. The purpose of this policy is to provide a cheap and pliable workforce of drones consisting of overburdened parents and an expanding pool of undereducated children. The “tell” that Vance is trying to manipulate you to his advantage is that he claims that this is what God wants and that he speaks for God. How convenient.

Childless Dog Lady here. I labeled myself “Everybody’s Aunt” decades ago. People like myself affect how kids grow up too. We volunteer in many places including schools and voting stations, sit with lost children in Malls/stores until they are found and show children what kind of person they would like to be by our actions. We MATTER.

I am 74 years. I raised 4 kids alone. It was hell at times. I love my kids and would sacrifice for them again if I had to but,,,,,,,,,,,, there were times when I thought to myself, dad I should have taken you up on you offer and went to art school instead of getting married. I was young and stupid, and most girls were raised at that time to get married and produce kids. Had I had a more open-minded mother, I am sure my life would be different today. Lots of pressure from there and I tried to make everyone else happy and not myself. I would never give up my family that I raised, all in their 50s and 40s now but the possibilities for me could have been grand. I was always told by my dad; you don't miss what you don't know. Would I have missed having kids? I don't know but I know I missed a career and the love of art that I never had the time or money to pursue, and I know I was good at it having pieces win in high school exhibitions. I did something differently with my four children. I told them to never worry about getting married or having kids. Worry about yourself first and most of all be happy. The fact that you never wanted children makes you an honest person. There are way too many that have children that don't give a damn about them. They shove an electronic item in their face as soon as they can hold it and let the internet raise them. Only people that are dedicated to kids should have them and not just because their friends are having them. I have so much respect for you choosing the life you wanted and living it. My second daughter is 52 and doesn't have kids and doesn't want them. She loves her nieces and nephews but loves her life to herself. I admire you and her not letting others dictate your lives. Peace always.

I’m in my 70s and made the decision that I didn’t want children at about 15. My sisters were both way older than me and I became the built in babysitter so I had plenty of practice dealing with kids. My husband didn’t want them either and at the earliest possible time I had my tubes tied to reduce the chances of becoming pregnant. I never really liked babies either so that was another reason not to have any .Ive heard it all, from you’re not really a woman unless you have kids to youre gonna regret doing that. Guess what? I never did. I got to do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. I got to be the cool aunt and give each niece and nephew attention and help when their parents were too busy to deal with them. Call me selfish but better to be selfish than to have kids, resent them and take that resentment out on them!

My daughter takes in emergency foster children when they need to quickly be removed from their home due to abuse. They are often malnourished, covered in sores, bruises, burns and cuts! I'm 58, childless and Yes I have cats. 4 to be exact. My fur babies have more intellectual wattage in their tails than Vance does in his entire body. He can go straight to hell. He don't know me. I didn't birth children, I never said I never raised any. I helped raise my 2 youngest siblings. My mom was busy caring for my sick father, so some one had to do it. I STILL baby my youngest brother and he's in his 40s. I help my 19 yr old nephew when he needs me. I buy cookies from the Girl Scouts even though I'm a diabetic. I donate to both Feed the Children and St Jude. I put leftover pantry items in the 2 Blessing Boxes down the street for my neighbor kids to have something to eat. I even got some lemonade from a kids lemonade stand whenever I can. I don't complain when my town has higher taxes than the state does for our schools, even though I know no kid in any of them. I want them to have a good education. I have worked as a teachers aide in a preschool and as a nanny. My whole life has been supporting kids. Just because I didn't birth them, doesn't mean I don't love or care for kids. I love kids. I never wanted to give birth to any, so I made sure I didn't. So Vance, you can ( bleep bleep and bleep) and ( bleep ) off . I bet you don't do even HALF of the things I've done for kids who are not even my own, or are not related to in any way.

I was raised in a conservative christian family. I heard, over and over, that it was irresponsible of 'those people' to have kids when they couldn't afford it. And so, I consciously chose to make what I was told was the responsible decision to put off starting a family until I was financially secure enough to support a family. But eventually it dawned on me that I might never be financially secure, and I have republican politicians to thank for that. So to hell with them if they think they can judge me for doing the thing they told me I should do in the circumstances they forced me to live in.

I have a really close relationship with my youngest stepson, and I am as much a parent to him as his birth parents. I have two amazing step children. They are my children. Period. I will never have bio babies, also because of a number of medical conditions, not the least of which being a rare blood disorder that practically guarantees leukemia at some point in their lives. I made that choice, no one else, and I cannot tell you, over 25 years, how many times I had to hear family, friends, coworkers, complete strangers, and church leaders "why don't you have any kids" and my answer is the exact same every time, it's none of your fucking business. This is just another classic example of Republicans forcing their way of life into everyone else by any means necessary. Childless, petless 45-year-old woman here. I got sterilized several years ago, and thankfully live in a very liberal area, and didn't have to jump through any hoops to get that procedure. I don't want kids, and never have. That being said, yes, I care about kids. I don't want them to be in danger, I don't want them to go hungry, and I want them to have their needs met, and their little dreams encouraged. I believe every child should be a wanted child. I know a lot of people who have kids but aren't the greatest parents. I knew a lot of kids growing up who didn't have the greatest parents. I had….. two therapists aggressively tell me to have kids. But the second one was worse: he kept telling me “the things you’re proud of (hobby related things) aren’t something you should be focusing on - you need to get married and have children. It’s your duty, it’s part of growing up. You can’t escape this. You need to have children.” Every. Single. Session. He brought that up The only reason I didn’t report those therapists is because I guess I was already indoctrinated by my Christian upbringing, combined with escaping an abusive relationship where I wasn’t allowed to think for myself - and when I escaped, hearing therapists tel me “it’s all over, grow up.” That…. Was disheartening I’m a man…. And I had to deal with this.., and that was traumatizing… I can’t imagine what so many women deal with

I'm not ready or willing to take such a risk, even if I could viably afford to do so without loads and more than a lifetime of debt. Whatever product or service I'm going to need in my latter days is going to be likely done by my peers' kids and grandkids. I have a sister who has never been able to successfully conceive, and cannot afford IVF, both in costs and time, as she is the center of her local community so people get what they need when in crisis. I have a friend who went for a doctor's checkup before she was intending to start her family, only to learn she would have to have a complete hysterectomy. What is crazy is that the US is an awful place for children. We don't care about child welfare, child justice or adequate parenting so there are some serious disincentives to have kids (or be one) in the United States. Child neglect due to overworked parents is both epidemic and intergenerational, and Vance stands behind policies that perpetuate this notion. So I'd argue he's not interested in children, rather he's interested in what SCOTUS is interested in, what our industrialists are interested in, disposable, replaceable workers and solders they can rotate in, use up and discard in order to fuel their vanity projects. So it is not entirely surprising that millennials and zoomers are choosing to not have kids (when they get to choose), and often are choosing to not date. (They're having less sex than Gen X and Boomers did at their age). I kind of wish you had specifically mentioned that Pete Buttigieg and his husband Chasten are parents, too. I happen to be a 63 year old gay man with two biological sons, ages 30 & 36. Sure, I'm invested in their possible future, but I'm also invested in my own, and my fellow countryfolk, including the childless, the minorities, women, trans folk. Steve, I'd rather trust my children's fiture to someone like you, childless or not, over someone like JD Vance, and his belief that trans kids should be taken away from loving, supportive parents that want the best for their child, to have their health choices made by bigots. Or to take away SSI from people like my eldest son, with cerebral palsy, or social security from me. I think it's difficult to refrain from pointing out the similarities between Project 2025 & Nazi agendas. There's no "choice" between the two parties this November, you're either supporting the continued existence of America as we've known it under Harris, or a dystopian future that could well make Nazis look cuddly by comparison. If we want to keep any of our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, we all need to vote blue on November 5th.

The fact that Vance has said this kind of thing out loud, in public, numerous times and not only are some people nodding their head in agreement but he's also the Republican VP candidate says all you need to know about Vance, the Republicans, the Reich wing and the MAGATS. They have always been about division and disenfranchisement and it is no longer a question of how far they will go to achieve their ends. As a concerned Canadian neighbour, I strongly encourage my friends in the U.S. to vote against this kind of B.S. and elect Kamala Harris to the position of chief executive, a position for which she is more than qualified and a position that T***p should never have sullied with his disgusting presence in the first place.

Funny how JD Vance will disavow people without biological children, when i know of at least 3 conservatives in their 30s who are not able to have children. One of them absolutely has a stake in the future of this country, because my oldest sometimes calls him "daddy." He's my and my spouse's best friend and roommate, and he acts as a second daddy to our two littles. But because he has no biological kids of his own, he deserves less? One of my childless conservative cousins is a DCF worker. The other is a school counselor. Do they not have a stake in the future of this country? My brother is childless and in his 30s. He also served our county for 13 years, doing 3 tours in war zones. Does he deserve less because he decided to dote on his nieces and nephews, and fight wildfires instead of having biological children? This idea that having biological children is the only reason you would care about the future of this country is bonkers. And alienates a lot of younger voters on his side.

The most hilarious part is that he's implying adoptive parents have no stakes in the future of the country. My father's adoptive parents adopted three children after deciding not to have children themselves, based on their Christian faith. They were by no means perfect parents but they did their best and genuinely love their adopted children as if they were their biological children. How would they not have a stake in the nation's future?

People like Vance seem to be ok that people who never use the public school system still pay for it. We pay for it because we live in a society where we agree to pay for shared things like libraries, fire and police, and schools. Vance knows all this. He strikes me as someone who picks topics just to get noticed and be controversial.

The problem is that non-parents pay more for public schools, parks, playgrounds, etc. than do parents. They get tax deductions for every child. We don't. I'm OK with some of my tax money going to support the needs of other people's children, but please eliminate the tax deductions for having children.

I have no children but I know what a child is. I've changed poopy diapers, cooked, washed cleaned up for them read them to sleep heard them read . . . because I'm an uncle and because I'm wide awake.
