literally three years later? isn't that a little much? not really relevant anymore, the consensus by the general public of this remake is positive partially because you never released this to said public. there was exactly one critical video that came out at that time as i recall. if re4 remake is bad, well it won't be your fault, but you didn't exactly help by essentially suppressing your own criticism and for so long. i mean you're entitled to pick and choose how your work is done and monetized, just - if you wanted the other remakes to be any different, it's a bit late, could've left this in the patreon vault after all.

I think that Jill's new "action heroine" attitude is what made Nemesis less of a threat(also his lack of presence). In the original, she would go mute ,or say oh no, he is back during some cutscenes.She was actually scared of Nemesis as with Brad's death she saw what he was capable of. Her "I'll give you STARS" line works perfectly because it's the end of the game and both the player and Jill are tired and fed up with him. By that moment Jill was no longer scared of him as he became a pathetic lump of flesh rather than an unstoppable monster. The new Jill calls him a bitch in the first 20 minutes or less time of gameplay. How is the player supposed to be scared of him if the character we play as doesn't think of him as dangerous.
@TheDeadmanstrolling Жыл бұрын

@TheJadedJames Жыл бұрын
That is an interesting observation, but that’s just not how I felt in the game. Although the opening scenes are pretty much the only time Nemesis is treated like he’s scary. That scene treats him like a terminator that even your tough cop protagonist is and would be scared of. The key issue with Nemesis is that the player doesn’t develop much of a relationship with him because he doesn’t show up in dynamic gameplay. In this game Nemesis is a repeated boss. He’s not hunting you down like Jack Baker and making you feel unsafe as you do normal stuff. Sometimes you get a key item and you can predict that is when Nemesis will show up for the next scripted chase … that isn’t scary
@hieioni3354 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I don't like Jill's modern feminist attitude in REmake 3, at all. Her not-scared reaction to Nemesis took away the scariness that was supposed to be Nemesis. Also, Nemesis never once said his iconic "S.T.A.R.S." in REmake 3. It's disappointing.

Yeah, when Leon does that sort of thing in RE4 it makes sense. Beyond already going through this experience once before Leon has also undergone extreme levels of military combat training for 6 years since Raccoon City, which has made him much tougher both mentally and physically thus he isn't as easily shook as before. Jill however only got over things at the Mansion after a couple of weeks thus would still be shook up and afraid of something like Nemisis.

Looking at what released in 2020, that was an incredibly slow year for Capcom. They had the Megaman Zero collection and Street Fighter 5 Champion Edition release in February and then RE3 came out in April and they were done. So I guess in that context, they needed something for 2020 and they quickly slapped together a Resident Evil game using assets from RE2. I’m sure most of the RE team was already working on Village, so it all led to what we got today: a very middling experience that cuts a lot of corners with a multiplayer mode bolted onto it. Which sucks considering Village was a great game but the RE4 remake is coming out next month which will undermine Village because they’re pretty similar games which means RE3 was rushed for nothing.

What I was disappointed in this remake the most was the removal of the rogue-like features of each playthrough. The original used to have instances where certain areas will have changed enemies, items, or Nemesis encounters each time you play the game. It basically makes every run personalized for each person and keeps the tension high, since you'll never expect what's around the corner. The remake removing this feature makes the playthrough more homogenized and samey, and kinda lessens what terror you would have felt otherwise.

I think a lot of RE3 Remake's missteps can be seen in the few missteps of RE2 Remake, which didn't do the multiple storylines. A lot of what made RE2 unique from RE1 and 3 were the Leon/Clare A/B storylines, but these were clearly sacrificed during development which focused instead on its third-person shooter gameplay loop. The developers seemed to think just a character select and slightly different cutscenes like RE1 was the same thing. So, instead of really looking at the original RE3 and understanding how and why it worked, they did the same thing: take their core TPS gameplay and give it a fresh coat of RE3 inspired assets. No branching gameplay paths, so Nemesis just appears at set points with cutscenes. RE2 Remake almost seems like a happy accident where they could focus their attention on a handful of locations, and so had to reuse them more than RE3 could which needed a lot more disconnected set pieces. I'm sure if Nemesis was allowed to run around a large and expansive area for an extended period of time he would have been received better. Instead the player only goes through each part once or twice, to and from, and Nemesis is dropped in at major moments to look impressive, but not much more than that.

Nemesis was the star (no pun) of the show in the original, he was the ultimate pursuer, playing the original as a kid I feared him and yet respected him. When I first played the R2make I thought to myself that if Mr. X was this relentless, just imagine how Nemesis will be and thus we got the R3make and what a let down in overall quality of the game compared to the original and especially Nemesis. I genuinely hope we get a directors cut, out-of-bounds of the R3make shows that the clocktower was fully modeled. AND if there is a directors cut, please oh PLEASE expand the city and let it be more explorable, that's also one of the original's strongest identity aside from Nemesis.

The things that make Resi 3 unique (and the best game in the PS1 trilogy, don't @ me) in my mind are the branching paths, the RNG, expanded action gameplay, and just getting to explore Raccoon City. Sure, the branching paths don't diverge that much; the randomization doesn't impact the game in a real meaningful way aside from pissing off speedrunners; the expanded action gameplay brings just as much jank as it does depth; and the city is tiny and mostly linear. But put together they give the game so much flavor and make it stand out super hard in the series. These are the things a good remake would polish and amplify to make a whole game out of. And they are All things the Remake we got absolutely botched or completely took out, which is just absolutely frustrating as a Nemesis fan. Worst of all is the dodge which just turns the game into a joke on lower difficulties.
@goranisacson2502 Жыл бұрын
According to wikipedia, the branching paths at least were removed because they wanted to put the focus on one single storyline that gelled more with the overall story- trim the fat and make it so there aren't a bunch of alternate threads, make things fit together better. Resident Evil 3 looking like such a rush job is what made me uneasy about 4 remake. That game's appeal is almost entirely in the gameplay, level design and pacing, so if they chopped out large chunks of it and replaced it with segments made out of Village assets or whatever, I was afraid there was no way they could live up to the original. The moment that probably best captures my conflicting feelings on the game is the sequence where Nemesis chases Jill up to the rooftops with the flamethrower. While the fight itself was fun, part of that experience was spoiled by the lead up to it being a very on rails "chase" sequence with no real interactivity or even threat. I actually don't mind Nemmy being less of a "random chance" threat throughout the game, but if you want to do the character concept justice then that same kind of split second decision making on how to deal with him when he does show up still needs to be represented somewhere.

This meant while having the gear and experience for the puzzles and gameplay, the game still felt scary and not easy. Though due to me breezing the game, he was only a problem for like an hour and then I made it out of the station. Raccoon City is the most iconic 'zombie city' in all of zombie horror, across both films and games. Even though I'm not talking about the RE movies, it's so iconic even in a game world, that it puts any film's zombie location to bed and tucks it in. How you can waste the opportunity to have Raccoon City a dead wasteland where Jill is being hunted by a biological superweapon while trying to escape the ultimate city of the dead is just beyond me. People don't want to watch cutscenes. They want to PLAY the game. The early portion of the game had some of the best Raccoon City visuals I've ever seen and it literally had you STROLL through them right into the demo. How it could do that, or not let you return to those areas, is just insane. And the fact that the game is actually interconnected but forcefully cut up by barricades and blockades to guide the player down a single, repetitive path is just putting salt on the wound. They REALLY should consider updating the game even though they obviously won't. Mods do help by opening up Raccoon City from the start of the game so you can get certain things early, but there's no enemies in those areas. It's just a mess. And the ultimate disappointment. They even took out the city section of RE2 and through it only into Claire's campaign, which ruins the feeling of false-refuge that you get when you find your way into the police station. A place where you thought you had escaped the chaos, where you thought you were safe... yet... But there was no chaos. The zombies in the opening section don't even aggro you >

I agree with You. I also grew up with RE3 so it was my childhood - had that epic intro, had so much atmosphere and lore to it, especially on how it places Jill being very alone and hopeless in the beginning, and the raccoon exploration played a key role in progressing the game. the remake was just too meh- especially since I know a lot about the raccoon city lore- probably more than the devs. they cut scenes and scenarios which made re3 what it was - the Jill RPD exploration, nemesis killing brad, the park, the clock tower- even the ending nuclear bombing scene was worse. I also wished re2 remake kept more raccoon city segments which it did not - even resident evil dark ide chronicles stayed truer to raccoon city segments. But to be honest I am not expecting much from Capcom anymore. ever since the original re4 release, the series has become irrelevant to me. re 0 1 2 3, outbreaks and code veronica were true RE. Weird... This is deep but it's intresting to notice that your RE4 video ended on a topic about the trend of the present and past and how the same can be seen in our lives and choices. Someone I know was talking about the cycles in our lives, we obviously have routines and all but it's just interesting to see that I've gone into this last phase of late night gaming and on my own and with friends who've been there since RE4 was new. I was even saying to them that we should enjoy these couple of weeks because we live in completely different cities, hundreds of miles apart and soon we'll probably look at moving in with the people we like so for me, this feels extra nostalgic getting to immersive myself again in all this YT content, gaming lore and things I'd already started to grow apart from. I'll never lose touch with these interests. There's nothing wrong with gaming and enjoying entertainment, late into our lives, it's just that people from the generation never had it at all so all of it is weird to them. I'm sure that most people younger than us will be the same, it's the new norm, or just that people have always loved entertainment and now we have these great stories around. Maybe soon, there'll be a new era of games, the same way YT is having its time and cinema is quiter than ever. Times changes but it's always great to go back and get immersed in things from our past. Some people say they never look back in life. This is really interesting and divsive. Leon himself talks honestly with Krauser about this same thing, in the og RE4!! There's nothing at all wrong with being attached to sentiment and nostalgia, these things define big parts of our character. We don't just wake up as different people, we're the sum of everything we've seen and with this being said, we shouldn't forget where we come from, even if we come from a generation that loved to mess around on a PS console

I need to be respectfully honestly here. I actually liked the remake quite a lot. While I do prefer RE 2 remake more, I do admit that RE3 was fun for me. The OG game was quite epic and was actually my first RE game growing up. But in all honesty, I don't think the Remake was disappointing to me. Yes, I wish we had more Nemesis and yes I wish the game was longer but I don't think the game is bad. It's a solid game with nice new twists. But I understand why some gamers would disagree. I just don't hold the game to the OG standards. I play games for what they are and not for what it was in the past. Also I liked the Carlos defense mission. I'm just a fan of wave levels. But again, that's just me.

There are some really glaring flaws in this game, I'm shocked they even released it. 1. Completely turns the open non-linear aspect of the original game into what is basically a COD-style corridor shooter, the "puzzles" were jokes. 2. Removes entire chunks of gameplay from the original game and instead replaces it with a multiplayer game that was pretty much dead on arrival 3. Feels more like a platinum style action game with guns, not surprising considering it was made by a B-team of platinum developers who worked on MGS: Rising. Also, this wouldn't be a bad thing, but it would've been cool to have them reboot Maximo instead just having the RE2:Remake team continue their work. 4. Criminally short, should've been 40 dollars on launch and If you were pretty skilled you could accidentally speed run the game on your first try as we saw with a lot of people. The first time I wasn't even trying and finished it in 3.5 hours. 5. All the upgrades from Nemesis could be gotten from 2 main encounters 6. We see Jill in a good form for the first time in 20 years and the return was quickly forgotten, also locking the original Riot Grrrl/Girl Power costume as pre-order DLC and resold later was a shit move.

After years with this game just stewing in my mind I’ve come to the conclusions that this game just sucks like they literally gutted and neutered what the original re3 was

RE3R is everything bad about RE6 being shoehorned into RE3. Extremely Linear Levels and turning Jill into a generic action hero rather than a survivor in a horror story. RE3R fans keep saying *"The Story is so much better than the cheesy original"* like WTF is better? Jill used to FEAR the nemesis, in the remake she calls him a b!tch and f(ker like he is just some drunk guy at the bar. Some say that adding clock tower can fix the game better but i disagree, what made RE3 great was the item/enemy RNG&Nemesis appearances being triggered by your choices.

It wasn't disappointing. It was bad. Offensively bad. Can we please just admit it was bad and stop saying it was disappointing we've had like 3 years to grieve at this point.

I just hope RE4 remake doesn't end up like this and keeps what made the original enjoyable Capcom worries me with remakes sometimes lol

Don't worry, RE4 demake's already confirmed to be shit. But sadly, the modern PS5 kiddos love this sort of poopoo, so it will sell, and then said kiddos will start memeing online that "only contrarians / boomers hate this masterpiece! :^)". We already got such brats online shitting on the classic RE4. Might be part of the viral marketing plan as well, but it's hard to tell nowadays.

Nemisis is easily the thing I was most excited for in the Remake and they really dropped the ball with him. Instead of having him actively hunt you throughout the map, jumpscaring you by coming through the entrance of a smaller area or chasing you through an alleyway they opted to make him Remake Mr.X 2.0. His main boss fights were all super underwhelming and the rewards for taking him down are very underwhelming. I liked Carlos' presentation on its own, but Nikolai's was also quite cookie-cutter with less impact. The UBC in general felt pretty flat with the best piece of lip service the get being the train ride. The clock tower being absent was plain criminal too. The Remake isn't a bad game by any stretch, it just wasn't RE3 quality. It's a shame because out of the original trilogy it was the most gripping with insane replay value and fun speed/challenge run rewards. I'm just glad RE4R is for the most part a great homage to its progenitor. Saddler isn't quite as zany, both him and Salazaar losing the radio interactions with Leon was a little saddening and I really disliked a few smaller details like the game locking off routes in the village and castle for seemingly no reason after you'd hit certain story beats. The shooting range also feels like it wasn't properly tested as it's easier to complete a finished run by purposefully lowering the game to 30fps. Bullets aren't hitscan and the targeting reticle is misleading as the lines show the limit of a weapon's spread rather than the center of them doing so like they do in any other shooter leading to some extremely frustrating skulls that are near impossible to hit on higher framerates with standard reaction time. But at it's core it's a perfectly serviceable Remake that isn't perfect, but scratches the itch. I'm hoping that when and if they remake 5 that they'll stick with the camp a bit more. Wesker in original 5 is a treat to watch in cutscenes and speaking of which I'm glad they removed QTEs from the things in both 4 Remake and a recent update for 5. The one thing they absolutely cannot cheap out on is the co-op experience. AI Sheva needs to be a bit sharper and there needs to be a good few obstacles and puzzles that fit the format. I think what I'm most excited for with a potential 5 remake is seeing just how much more horrifying they can make the Reapers look as they were one of very few enemies in the series that to this day genuinely creep me out. The combination of Regenerador and Novistador with an instakill was an inspired original design for an enemy and the death scene is just chilling when you project onto the character you're playing.

I love it when RE is action focused (I platinumed re6) but remake3 is way to short. It's pretty the length of just one of 6's.

The original was so much finer than this plus it’s so difficult to use the analog stick for moving the character around why can’t they use thd D-Pad instead or at least have that in the control option as a choice

It’s just not worth replaying, especially not with that boring intro that takes control away from the player in favour of “hold UP on the analog stick until the next mini cutscene, and repeat”

After REmake2 I thought 3 would be a slam dunk, felt like all the pieces were there and wanted to see more of the city in this new way. Eventually REmake3 came out and I still haven’t played it. And the odds of that happening are lower every video about it I see

You really are not missing anything by skipping RE3 remake. Ironically enough the only section of this game done right is a demo area, so its possible to experience everything good in this game for free simply by downloading a demo.

Resident Evil 3 remake felt more like an action zombie movie than an actual horror game if you play resident evil 2 you’ll be getting scared more of that than 3. Re2 felt like actual horror the jump scares, various amounts of lickers in the station, just the whole vibe to the station itself. Then of course there is Mr X when you saw him and realized you have to progress with him chasing you you knew you had to be smart. Re3 feels and looks simulated and more like an action game than a horror game. The biggest disappointment is Nemesis I’ve seen footage of him just coming out of actual nowhere in re3 original now it feels like his encounters are now simulated and set to happen at a certain time.
