Not all top 10% net worth households are owners or entrepreneurs. Some of us have to grind to the end based on employment scenarios just to reach the finish line. Does the cash flow not come from the lump sum number though? My wife has a pension in place, about 60k a year. I do not have a pension so we are trying to match hers by accumulating a nest egg of 1.5 mil (2 Roths and a 403b) to yield 60k using the 4% rule. We're not sure how else to approach this.
