New Sub for ya . Great video brother. I have several calibers and reload for a long time but I have never had a revolver. I have always wanted a 44mag/Special though as its such a versatile round. I have understood the forcing cone gap for a long time and thought about it a lot as well. This was well explained for any folks new to revolvers.

Please read Veral Smiths guide to lead bullets. Lead bullet technology in Moyey springs Idaho. It was common practice in the 70s and eighties to champher forcing cones. Also recommended is lapping the bore with JB bore paste. LBT has a guide to hardening lead bullets. Many people that cast their bullets use a gas check. I experience very little leading with these techniques. I use a Teflon bore cleaner or something like TriFlo to treat all of my bores as well.

Lewis Lead Remover tool will clean the forcing cone and the cylinder throat. In .357s and .44 Magnums, build up coating of lead in the cylinder throat will "rechamber" a magnum into a Special as the longer cartridges will be obstructed from chambering.

So it the leading normal on my snubnose revolver? I hate the way it looks I did the best I could using a copper brush but I can still see almost what looks like lead rings at the beginning of the cone
@leadsmith44 Жыл бұрын
I don't know about "normal". If it isn't hurting performance or function, you may not have anything to worry with. Sorry so late in the response. Thanks for stopping by

My Charter Arms shoots lead on my face. Is that the forcing cone?

Good chance... If it is out of line with the cylinder or cut wrong that sort of thing can happen. They do great warranty work in my experience. Give them a call. Happy New year, and thanks for coming by!

Probably too hot and light load for the gun. I have had some blowback when using hot stuff 125 gr. I usually avoid it for regular use.Consul your owners manual ammo guide.

I care a lot more about what the size of the gap has to do with velocity loss.
@leadsmith442 жыл бұрын
Thanks for coming by. Yeah, it will effect velocity, at least that is the consensus I've read. I've never done any before/after chrono testing, but it would be interesting to see a video from someone who has. Thanks for coming by!
