Great overview video. I am most excited about the Rhino tab in Ghop as it lets you bake objects with attributes natively (like layer/material/colour etc) which you had to do with Elefront /Human before. It means you can now compile Grasshopper tools that non-techy users can drop on the Rhino canvas and do pretty complex commands within Rhino.

Rhino is a surfacing tool primarily - which means that the workflow with the geometry is completely different. For a long time rhino developers have been focused on automotive/product design and only relatively recently have they put more effort to facilitate the needs of architects. Push-pull is primarily an architect's tool.

To be honest, I'm very disappointed. This NURBS modeling tool improves on many topics except NURBS modeling. There hasn't been a major improvement since V5 especially when it comes to Class A surfacing. The best thing was a plug-in called VSR from Autodesk, which u can use in V5 only and rhino didn't come up with anything close as good until now. There are other tools that do polygon modeling way better... Don't get me wrong. Rhino is amazing and I use it almost every day. But as a industrial designer I think rhino should focus more on it's core strength.

I used Rhino since Rhino3 but had to switch to blender a year ago and never looked back. What looks like a innovation in Rhino like the PushPull command, is still so clunky compared to live Boolean modifiers in Blender that you can just change anytime you want and everything live updates. I don't understand why people keep comparing rhino and blender, totally different software for different purposes. I wouldn't use rhino for subd work (even if it can do it), but for accurate modelling rhinos is much better than blender, if only for the fact that it is nurbs based (no need to fight inaccurate polygons). @@geddan I think you're missing the point. Look at modern UI. They make sure that central to the software is modeelling so you spend more time looking at your canvas than have 1000 buttons, menus within menus blocking your interface, different styled context menus, different behaviors of commands. Every button opens another type of menu. Context menus have double information. Title bar menus are the exact same as icon buttons. It's overly complex and needs to be reduced and standardised. There are 100 different types of menus in rhino that all lead to the same thing which in my oppinion is not at all modern day standards.

@@jippee1 Yea, having less visual clutter would be nice. With that being said - it's a dangerous game to play. "Unclutter" things too much and you'll have a minimalist UI with a million "click here for more options" / "click here for advanced options" buttons.

bad update. Very bad. Look at plasticity: This tool have NICE PATCH TOOL. But it's still younger then Rhino. That is, as the developers claim, this program is good at solving plasticity(i mean about rhino). I have been using Rhino for a year now, or even more than Plasticity. And I have a feeling that the developers are not even in a hurry to do something good for their software. Over the last 10 years they've added a couple of funny features that you don't use often. It would be better to make something like xnurbs, which, it seems to me, is much more important for designing and visualizing complex things.
@RhinoTimelaps
@RhinoTimelaps 6 ай бұрын
And what struck me most was the response from the developers when I asked what they would do with the tools for surfaces that they have now, whether there would be updates to the patch tool, because... it is simply impossible to use it. They told me that they would not develop this. Well done. What else to say.
@geddan
@geddan 6 ай бұрын
Best thing to do in this case is to move on to Plasticity. People moving away to "Software B" due to lack of development of "Software A" is the most affective way to get developers to listen. This of course only works if there's a noticeable portion of the userbase that would leave. Cool portal gun video!
