But . . . but . . . but . . . I thought all we had to do was give up lattes and avocado toast. Then we'll save enough money to buy a house.
@hypothalapotamus52933 жыл бұрын
Does math: If I saved $150 a month from not eating avacado toast/drinking coffee and stuck it in an aggressive index fund with ~10% annual return... I could probably have a downpayment for a house in 10 years if we ignore that house prices are increasing and I forget to pay the government. Thus, we can infer that people who say this kind of thing habitually forget to pay uncle Sam.
@snugglyhugs86983 жыл бұрын
My mother owns a house in California. Last year the house appreciated $78000. My income was $55,000 Even if we saved 100% of my income to pay for the house, the house appreciated $23,000 more than a decent income. When I applied for a home loan I was told "No." The cost of the mortgage + insurance + repairs would have been about $1200/mo. I've since been paying $1600/mo in rent for the same house because someone who was rich bought it and rented it out to me. This is why there's a housing crisis, and how rich people are forcing everyone else into indentured servitude/slavery.

We never had new clothes, name brand food, or often even milk for cereal. We were audited and found to be owing taxes. They took all of our savings (less than $1500) and garnished my dad's wages for 2 years. I remember walking into the living room and seeing some woman in a fancy suit going over these papers with my distraught mother. I knew something was wrong. I think back on that day often and wonder how that woman could walk into a dilapidated mobile home with a pile of kids running around in threadbare clothes and think 'These people need to pay more taxes'.
