I just watched this movie last night. I’m not usually big on romance anime, but this was great. I’ve never been in love or met anyone special, but this movie made me cry like five times.

Me too! I just watched the movie yesterday and I cried only once. How? I cried throughout the the second half (from the promise scene till the end. I figured out something was going to happen next to the promise scene). It is the first anime I have seen and I now love anime (not exactly 'the first' I watch doraemon and shin Chan ever since I was a kid)

When I watched this movie I first got jealous of hinako (the female) and spent the first few minutes wondering how she snagged a person as good as minato. Anyways, away from that memory. I very much agree with what you said and I agree with more. Because of the raw and real portrayal of a relationship, their relationship, I felt a stronger connection with hinako’s happiness when minato came back through the help of the ocean. It wasn’t just fleeting happiness due to the fact that it would aid to the plot or make me happier seeing him back on screen and not actually gone forever. It was genuine happiness that the two lovebirds would still have a chance. And then there was her pain at the end. The point where she realises that minato was never coming back, witnessing the breaking in her voice and her little pained sobs and listening to a simple but heartfelt message from her dead boyfriend who was also her number one supporter. Emotions of jealousy turned to grief and empathy as though they were my best friends.

I really enjoy looking at takes from people who absolutely love something that I did not. It kinda makes me pay more attention to details that I might appreciate more in future. The depiction of their genuine affection towards each other through gestures is lovely and I get that it's really special in that regard. Great video!!

Why didn’t you like it, may I ask? I thought it was great in how it depicted grief and the struggle of moving on from loss. Ultimately, when minato finally lets hinako go and decides to ride her own wave was so beautiful in my eyes.

You spoke my thoughts!! That is exactly why I loved this movie so much, that I even beared with all the tears and suffering it caused me lol. It's about how natural their relationship seemed. It was like watching a real couple. Maybe the movie was for a more mature audience, or something, but I want to see more couples like this in japanese animation, ones that seem this real. Do you have any recommendations? Great video!!

for like a good 20- 30 minutes, i thought that Hinako (female) was mentally ill. I thought that MInato was part of her imagination, i was litterally screaming for her to realise. i feel little silly because he was there looking out for her all along. while watching it i was like hahhahha, i'm not gonna cry then i started crying. it started with wet eyes and rubbing my eyes to tears ruining down my shirt.

@@UnbelievableCider the main character wasn’t likable in my opinion The boyfriend’s death was not impactful since we only knew him for like 20 minutes The entire half where she’s talking to his ghost via water was physically painful to watch And the ending where she’s surfing down the water from the tree building is the corniest thing I think I’ve ever seen I don’t even like romance anime to begin with And the animation was unappealing Side note:I would also beat Hinako in a fight low difficulty
@UnbelievableCider

@@Kaiser_still_da_goatI totally understand that. That ending was pretty corny lol and yea the part where she is talking to his ghost was cringey. The first 20 minutes had a really strong impact on me, but I get that it wouldn't be the same for everyone. Thank you for replying!

My biggest flaw with this movie is just how the boyfriend is basically Jesus. He has literally no flaws and manages to save the day even after he’s dead. I would’ve much preferred a more interesting character. Now it is not lost on me that he is a plot device and therefore doesn’t exactly need to be entirely fleshed out like the main character is. However, I believe the writers felt that to make us like this character he had to be the zenith of perfection. Although I feel like this had the adverse effect for me personally as I saw him as completely unrelated and was honestly just kinda annoyed at how perfect he was portrayed. I feel they should’ve went down the route to make him relatable, even if he is a plot device just to make him more likeable and have more of an impact on the audience. I also wanted to see more of Wasabi as he HAD flaws. He was far more interesting.
@anitamihholap5926
@anitamihholap5926 2 жыл бұрын
Well, if you wanted someone more relatable, there was Hinako. And if you think about it, we mostly see Minato through the lens of all the people who admire him, of course he's gonna seem perfect.
@kyleturner7309
@kyleturner7309 2 жыл бұрын
@@anitamihholap5926 But that’s not an excuse. Every character in a romance/drama story should have flaws. It’s what makes us human and what makes a character in fiction good, is how much they actually seem like a multi-dimensional human. Not a literal god with no flaws who even in death, manages to save the day.
@anitamihholap5926
@anitamihholap5926 2 жыл бұрын
@@kyleturner7309 hey, just cause we didn't see any flaws in Minato doesn't mean he doesn't have them (the fact that we weren't shown any is more of a writer's fault than a character's). He seems like a very real person, at least to me. Like a person who could have deep insecurities, but never show any doubt for the sake of others. Like a person who always puts others first, never catching a break, which could be a flaw in itself. The fact that Hinako never realized that while they were together might mean that their relationship wasn't as perfect as it seemed. Sweet and healthy yes, but not flawless.
@hatesBarney4life
@hatesBarney4life Жыл бұрын
Minato was shown to have flaws through his sister. And as far as being fleshed out, I felt like his trying so hard and being so dedicated to improving in all aspects of his life WAS his personality and his growth. But tis just my perspective 😅
