It's already 70 years after independence and people slowly forget the ill doings of RSS and how they try to destroy the Indian freedom movement for the British. In the early years of Indian Nation, RSS was considered as a cult group of religious extremists supported by British government. The only way to prevent RSS is teaching students the history of Indian freedom struggle along with the letters written by Savarkar.

It is disappointing SG that you are avoiding issues from the south in ctc. The latest raid on PFI where most arrests came from Kerala itself has a history right from 2011. Today a strike by the PFI only happened in one state- Kerala which resulted in stone pelting, vehicles broken down, police being attacked, bombs thrown and this doesn’t even feature properly in the print. Then the Waqf board land issues in Tamil Nadu. These are sensitive but at the same important issues to be discussed at the social level as well as political. Hope u take this as a feedback.

The fundamental issue is how do you reconcile the differences between Hindus and Muslims? For Hindus, India is their sanctuary so being patriotic toward India is built-in. All very well SG. ThePrint does present unique programmes. Kudos. My take. Whatever initiative by whichever side should be “headlined” as a positive and NOT as intriguing. In any move, like in chess, some moves in advance are planned. But we must encourage a fair attempt for brining sanity between the communities. Religion is a highly misunderstood and misused dispensation in the world. Tailpiece: It would be nice if the media helps positively. I feel RSS is not aiming to reconciling with Muslims , who are all good (like any Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, Parsi or whoever), but with Islam, the most exploited idea in the world. It may be recalled that we cannot expect politicians to take initiative (as they have their vote banks to consider); the overtures and actions towards reconciliation have to be initiated by religious leaders. Anybody can see that. Note: There is a difference in reconciling with Muslims (they are like all other Indians) and Islam and vice versa.

S.Y. Qureshi of Haryana Cadre was two years senior to me in the IAS. My cadre was Punjab. We met only once while traveling from Moscow to Delhi in 1987 , sharing seats in the same row. We talked for hours together. Najeeb Jung and I had the same seniority and we had rooms adjoining each other's in Rail Bhawan in 1986 and we used to meet and talk to each other often. I was Private Secretary to Transport (Cabinet) Minister , Mohsina Kidwai and he was Private Secretary to MoS Railways, Madhav Rao Scindia. Couple of other things to keep in mind: RSS now has consensus on how to handle Hindu Muslim relations and that consensus is heading in a good direction. That's good and must be cautiously encouraged. The Sangh parivar, it is not as top down as we think it is. Your local chapter of Bajrang Dal has quite a lot of leeway and freedom of action to take things in their own hands (This happens in every Indian political organization). Is the Sarsanchalak's outreach enough? Does the RSS have enough sway to maintain discipline in it's affiliates and make this outreach successful? I think that latter question is something Muslims must ask their respective organizations as well. Does All India Imams Organization have enough sway to not let things go out of hand?

It is a very important development in the history of India. We should nurture it further. @@TheHardik112 remember, hinduism is a roughly-defined societal model that various religions adhere to, not a religion itself. Calling yourself a Hindu is not enough to communicate your beliefs with others. Hinduism as we recognize today is comparatively new in India, maybe only a thousand years before islamic society, and is constantly changing. However, the origins of Hindu dieties and certain religious beliefs go back >75,000 years to Africa, and have been in India for 70,000 years. The aryan invasion caused a very long era of confusion that unfortunately still somewhat continues to this day, and the islamic invasion proved a formidabble challenge that can’t be overcome without serious self-reflection. The british were another massive source of change, followed by socialists and then capitalists. Don’t try to go back to something that is neither correct nor robust against challenges. A new society is needed.

@@adurpandya2742 I do agree with the fact that term “Hindu” relatively new and is more of description than religion it self. Proper term would be Sanatan Dharma. Which is part of this subcontinent for “at least” 5000 years or more based on current collection of evidence, very likely it’s much older than that. Yes each part of the region has its own culture, language, food, and customs, and yet it’s evident that they’re all connected and can trace their existence to singular source. without proper evidence how do you trace Hindu deities to African origin ? Aryan invasion is a THEORY.

This isn’t a joke, and far more than Indian identity and religion is at stake. Accept that there are lots of problems in the Vedas and work from there. Shesha, Quetzlcoatl, Chinese dragons, Dang-bhi, the Gnostic snake. And then the depictions of Nagas throughout the world. Compare this to how the aryans treated it.

It's a great analysis, it was in my mind the reason for reaching out to Muslim but wanted to hear from SG and he said rightly. Nationalism (not to be confused with patriotism) envisions the political nation as a homogeneous entity in some form or other. Present, the Hindi-Hindu nationalism is the most dominant one, and when someone says nationalism, they imagine this in their minds. Consequently, when we ask someone to be a nationalist, we invite them into this fold, either by learning Hindi, ghar-wapsi, or both. Therefore when we ask a Tamil Christian or a north-eastern person with Mongoloid features to be a nationalist, we essentially ask them to forget who they are, and embrance this new homogeneous national identity. It is okay, even good, to be an anti-nationalist. Only through anti-nationalism we can protect the idea of India, which is inherently heterogeneous and diverse.
