This may come as a shocker to you but the Bandrew Says Podcast channel is a personality driven channel. I don't care what you talk about, I'm here to hear you talk about whatever.
@cjayconrod8 ай бұрын
I came to the comments to say exactly this! I came for the microphone reviews, but stayed for the personality.
@lx1308 ай бұрын
Yup! It could be 90 minutes of bandrew starting a talk about hot giardanera on pizza and go to digression after digression and ending on wool vs silk socks. I’d listen.

the dune prequels are amazing. I listened to them using audible. 37:00 using room tone to smooth out the noise gate might help a little.

Re:Dune I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm scheduled to re-read it (again) soon with a friend. I absolutely love the 2000 mini series of Dune & the 2003 Children of Dune mini series! My mum has them in dvd sets and I need to find them in storage & rewatch them. I have only seen part 1 of the new Dune movies. I got it on bluray and am waiting for part 2 to come out on Bluray to watch it. I definitely went to Podcastage for a mic review originally but as soon as I watched that one review, I wanted to see what else you did, found all your other channels and stayed for you...
@bsp8 ай бұрын
I'll definitely have to check out the 2000 mini series, and then once I read the follow up books check out the children of dune series. Hope the re-read is as enjoyable as the first couple of read throughs. And that means a lot Heather. Thank you so much.

On the point about hunting EQ frequencies, I'll pass along something I was taught very early on: learn what frequencies correspond to each trait of the human voice so that you don't HAVE to hunt. It takes some time, of course, but once you understand that the "boxy" sound is around 800 Hz or sibilance falls between 5 kHz to 8 kHz or so, then you can start to listen to your raw recordings and say "okay, these esses are too sharp, let's pull down 6.5k about 3 dB and see how that sounds." And then you tweak it from there. And, in fact, I almost NEVER boost anything while tweaking, I always CUT, because that's just the way my brain works. If I get MORE of the sound I don't want, my brain doesn't always process that it's the correct frequency, it might just be another frequency that doesn't sound right when I bump it up. If the sound I **don't** want suddenly goes away, then I know I'm on the right track. Your mileage may vary, but I would suggest that approach regardless just to start with.

I feel for the EQ submitter, every week I tweak plugins or eq and I don't think I'll ever be happy. It's very hard to just learn to let it go, know that you did your best, and it sounds great to most of your listeners.

I'm sure we come to this channel because of your personality! Yes, most probably come to Podcastage for the reviews, but your personality is a big positive as well. But that channel is more about reviews, not other topics, like this channel is, and what this channel is about shows your personality well, and it's a big positive!

Thank you very much Alexandra, that means a lot.

Completely agree on the BB41. Also love that the Tudor exposes the crown looks so clean without the crown guards.

My Kindle Paperwhite is probably my favorite piece of technology. I've had my second one for years now and it shows no signs of age. The first one got cartwheeled down a flight of concrete steps. It still worked after even that, but the casing was cracked in multiple places which made it awkward to hold.

I don't even really care a lot about microphones, but I enjoy your content because you have a wonderful personality. That's why I'm here.

Thank you so much for the answer(s), really appreciate it! Regarding the (subtractive) EQ, the tutorial videos I've seen always go right into it without asking you to pause and consider if you actually should do it. So it comes off as a natural and necessary part of processing your audio.

David Lynch Dune is high art, in both senses of "high." Not enough people talk about the greatest advantage of ebooks: You can adjust the font and size to suit your necessities. And yeah in my opinion the Paperwhite is one of those things that somehow got almost everything right. I just wish the USB port was at the top or side of the device.
@bsp8 ай бұрын
If it's Lynch being Lynch, then I have no doubt I will love it. And I agree about the kindle. It's rare to find anything in modern times that doesn't become obsolete in a few years. 9 years on and this one is still rocking and a rolling. Money well spent.
@JoshColletta8 ай бұрын
Yeah, tagging onto the Dune comment; I would say watch it only AFTER you've watched the others. It's still Dune, it's deeply 80's, and it's VERY Lynchian. You have to really appreciate Dune for what it is for the Lynch version to work.
@mattcowens8 ай бұрын
I enjoyed but was traumatised by the David Lynch Dune. It's not a faithful adaptation but i still love it. Also SE Hinton was a teenage girl when she wrote The Outsiders. Her publishers didn't want to put a girl's name on the cover (according to an interview with her I heard a few years ago) so they went with SE (instead of Susan)

In my completely anecdotal experience, I wonder if YT's higher TV streaming percentages may be due to ambient/background music streaming channels. When we're working around the house or reading, we often keep music or ambient noise channels running for hours on end - much longer than we might otherwise be watching tv
@bsp8 ай бұрын
Very interesting. I hadn't considered the TV app being used for background noise.

Re: subtractive EQ, I suspect just sweeping through the spectrum with a much milder boost or cut might serve the questioner better. When you're first starting out, sometimes you don't even what you're listening for, but if something sounds better, it is better. (Just err towards towards doing less and nothing if you can, and I also think it's worth coming back to changes you make later with fresh ears. Sometimes I'll convince myself I've "improved" something but come back and realize I actually like a less processed sound, and it feels less tiring as both a creator and listener.) Filosefem is the greatest album made by a horrible person, as far as I'm concerned. (And the only music I'd advocate pirating/stealing without exception, even fractions of a cent are too much to give Varg. That said, there is someone on youtube who's taken the trouble to make somewhat more hifi and headphone friendly versions of Burzum albums - they're pretty easy to spot since he adds colour to the original covers - and I think those are worth checking out. Especially if the production bothers you. It's still raw and atmospheric, but more pleasant.) The violence in Robocop was designed to be cartoonish and satirical, so I think laughter is exactly the response the director hoped for. Dawn of the Dead is great first film for anything!

You should not watch Lynch’s Dune. The new dune movies are great, you could watch Jodorowskis dune, fascinating on its own. But yeh book is better in every case

@bsp8 ай бұрын
I don't understand the question.
@zedoktor8 ай бұрын
Think about it, Bandrew. Male models are genetically constructed to become KZbinrs. They’re in peak physical condition. They can gain entry to the most secure places in the world. But, most important of all, models don’t think for themselves-they follow the algorithm.

Bursum is what you listen to when you need to loosen fillings in your teeth while simultaneously giving yourself tinnitus at even low SPL's. "I'd buy that for a dollar!" Resident evil = S.D. Perry (Stephani Danelle Perry)? Mic sounds fine... as long as you dont compare it to anything lol. Didn't like the new TZ, however, tales from the dark side was pretty awesome. Episode "The Last Car" was awesome.... "tunnel".... Have you watched the new Fall Out series on Prime?! Loved it. Why has no one commented on how good the chroma keying is on this episode!? Great job! One thing to listen for when doing a frequency sweep... ring. If you have a source that has an offensive frequency when you hit the frequency you will not hear it as a nasty spike at a given frequency (as you said everything boosted at 20db in a narrow bands sounds "BAD"), however, when there is a problem, you will hear it, and it will continue to ring after that frequency passes... its harder to explain than it is to hear so ... here... to hear... here kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6G6k4SZbs2JjdEsi=FUy6HJqblOLVkMXs This doesn't only happen on drums or instruments, but on vocals as well but to a lesser degree... the snare drum example was the easiest to hear to kind of get to recognize what to look for. If your room as a particular node that sounds bad, you can use this trick to help correct that and make the spoken word more separated from the space. Takes a while to get used to but once you learn it, you can start to recognize when you have a problem and when you dont.
