@liltrip6511 Russia didn’t have a reliable and stable route to Africa like Belgium or the Netherlands did, nor did it ever have the sea power anywhere close to the Dutch at their peak. Belgium only got a colony because all the powers who wanted the Congo decided it was best to give it a small unthreatening state than one of their geopolitical adversaries Secondly, learn how to speak or at least type English properly. “Military basis”?😂 Third, you’re comparing the sole global superpower to Russia in the late 1890’s. There is a BIG difference between the two, that Russia would soon go on to lose the Russo-Japanese War and WWI. They were simply not capable of holding a sustain colony in Africa, and even the Tsar knew it. That’s the reason they declined during the scramble for Africa, they couldn’t guarantee the absolutely mandatory logistical support

When european empires colonized in africa, Russia expanded east. when the american settlers expanded across america, russia expanded east. when the british and french created colonial trade routes piercing into asia, russia expanded east. its easy to forget that russia is the world's largest country for a reason, and that reason is conquest and russification. genocides not too different from the ones against native americans.

exactly - i'm from poland. if we were to put a name on what russia did in my country, or ukraine or baltic countries, it would be colonialism. russification is polite way of saying "destroying culture, language and forcing people of another nation to work and die for foreign empire". it's seen different because polish, ukrainian, baltic peoples are white, therefore there's "no" racial discrimination.

@@disposingbow2274 That wouldn't be in US interest. The reason those bases are there is to fight groups like Boko Haram. The hope here... is there is any hope left... is that Russian mercenaries will continue to help fight those groups. For what it's worth, I think they do fight those groups, as those groups are eternally in conflict with the governments of the states that they're in. The problem is, Russia will do a much worse job of this than the US did. Here's what happens (and this has happened multiple times now): a Sahel country (like Mali or Burkina Faso or Niger) has a military-led coup. The US and its allies decry the move, because the coup removed a democratically-elected leader, and demand that the democratically-elected leader be reinstalled. The coup government, using anti-colonialist rhetoric, blames the US and its allies (mostly France) for its economic troubles, and kicks them out. To take their place (because otherwise the terrorists would start to take over) the junta brings in Russian mercenaries (used to be Wagner, now the name might be different). The Russian mercenaries aren't as good as the US and allies at stopping the terrorists. However, here is the advantage: the Russian mercenaries don't have expectations of the junta. So if you don't want to have elections, if you want to make your government a corrupt mafia, etc... all of that is totally ok with Russian mercenaries. You just have to give them their cut. The result is that the government is worse, its security situation is worse, and terrorist attacks and influence increase. The evidence that showed Mali and Burkina Faso terrorism went way up after their coups is overwhelming.

For those who think that Erdogan is Pro-Palestine, they're badly mistaken. Erdogan is not Pro-Palestine, he just pretends to be one (in order to appease his Islamist base) while maintaining close security, economic & diplomatic ties with Israel. Note that, as mentioned in the report, these suspensions of trade with Israel will remain in place until an "uninterrupted And sufficient flow" of aid" into Gaza is allowed, though it won't be surprising if he decides to reverse course without checking whether these conditions are met or not. Then, it also looks like he's trying to appease his Islamist base after a portion of them defected to Yeniden Refah (New Welfare) Party, led by Fatih Erbakan, former Turkish Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan's son during the local elections where his AK party suffered massive losses to both CHP (Erdogan's main opposition party) & the Yeniden Refah (New Welfare) Party due to a myriad of factors, such as his policies which drove Turkish economy to the ground & in Yeniden Refah (New Welfare) Party's perspective, his double standards on Israel. And the Yeniden Refah (New Welfare) Party is way more hardline about Israel than Erdogan & his AK Party. (TLDR mentioned how Erdogan plays both sides in a recent video)

I understand your point, but don't be so trusting. When Western colonialism started it was slow at first, but little by little they gained control over everything they wanted. You think China and Russia are going to be different? It's the same thing just in modern times. China and Russia are both colonial countries with expansionist ambitions. Africa is just their way of gaining strategic advantage over the West. This is the new Cold War & colonialism. Africa is going to be torn apart by external forces again. It is terrible. I just pray that Africa in the future can learn from all this horror rise above such poverty and vulnerability. African leaders are just as much to blame as the external forces supporting them.
