I know that the revealing of names and positions of military personnel can put them in danger, but the majority of these are for Iraq and Afghanistan as far as I know (I am very far from being a specialist) and in my eyes, the US should have simply done this little ol' thing known as declaring a wall and not storming in a way make the same way Russia now did with Ukraine
@DuxSupremus3 ай бұрын
@@KaloyanKasabov Missing the forest for the trees. As Europe is currently learning, and as America learned with the 2016 election, there are many ways of conducting hybrid warfare. Undermining trust and faith is one of them. "What does Russia directly gain from Assange?" misses the point of Assange generally discrediting America to the benefit of Russia. (As has happened with France in the Sahel in Africa, again to Russia's benefit.) Assange's foremost ally was Glenn Greenwald. Greenwald was also the pointman for Edward Snowden. Snowden fled to Russia citing that it had truly free press (same as China). These people are all connected in an extremely obvious fashion, much as Trump and Giuliani are obviously connected to Putin, and as Orban and Fico are obviously connected to Putin. These are not hard connections to draw. Instead, people champion Assange as a free speech hero, despite it being a matter of record that Putin gleefully uses Western free speech as a weapon against it. This makes Assange's supporters what the Soviets used to call "useful idiots".

I gather from this plea that he WAS guilty of espionage. However, like Trump, it also shows that endless legal stonewalling of the US legal system can get results for the guilty.

He could have gone to Sweden, faced the charges, served a couple of years in a luxury Swedish prison, and went home over a decade ago. The idea that a country that protected US draft dodgers (Sweden) was more likely to extradite him than the US's closest ally (the UK) was absurd. He just didn't want to admit that what he did to those women was immoral and illegal under Swedish law.

@@jesseberg3271 You have written this same reply many times in the comments. However it is just not true. Sweden definitely extradites to the US. And Assange didnt chose to depend on the UK, he tried to stay at the embassy, not in UK prison.

@@chrishekman6179 many people are saying the same dumb things. He went in person to the UK courts, before he held up in the embassy, and argued that unlike the UK, Sweden would hand him over to the US to be executed. It was a sleazy stupid lie from a sleazy stupid rapist who tried to pretend that having rape laws that count assaulting a previous partner in her sleep somehow makes Sweden "the Saudi Arabia of Feminism", and now people keep talking as if he had somehow suffered for a novel cause? Bull shit, and I will keep saying that as often as I see the argument made. Sweden does not extradite to the US on death penalty cases, and has a long history of refusing to extradite people for political reasons. If this had been remotely about his work for wikileaks he would have gone to Sweden and been home by now. This was a sexual predator refusing to go through one of the most genuine attempts at rehabilitation of any justice system in the world, because he didn't want to be rehabilitated. To this day he has not apologized for raping those women, and that removes any right to sympathy he has, and tarnishes the good work he did.
