Most people in the USA don’t want to live in the woods in a cabin. For many years we had no ambulance at all. We recently got emergency services. I live in a national forest with no shops and such. I understand most people in all countries really do not want to live like this. However it’s beautiful and peaceful here and around here we do things the old fashioned ways. Thank you for the insight into this subject!

I worked with several people that had second homes in the woods of Maine and New Hampshire. My friend sold the home he lived in near the city to buy a home on a lake when he retired. He drives 12 miles to get to a shopping area. Many of the cottages near beaches were summer homes that did not have heaters for winter. I stayed in one just a year ago. I froze when Temps dipped into the fifties at night. The town turns the water off to the entire area to prevent pipes from freezing in middle of October, will turn in back on come Spring. Americans love their summer homes.

I will say that I drive an hour to get to a Walmart or 40 minutes to get to a small grocer…but it’s a beautiful drive! I own the land including some timber acres but it is absolutely part of a National forest. If you want to live like this you had better be willing to fend for yourself essentially.

Beautiful to see your Dacha home and garden again. I love hanging out there with you , Alex, Sheffield . It’s so peaceful and different to living in the city . I certainly understand why many Russian families try to own one. I really enjoyed going a walk with both of you today. The weather was lovely and it was so pleasant. We call a ready house a "prefab," which is short for prefabricated. The term for building a house board by board on site, like most houses are built, is called stick-built. Your English is excellent though and it's always calming to listen to your voice.

Love it! Thank you for sharing. For moles, we tried all sorts of products, including those vibrating things. Only thing that worked was used kitty litter without the nasty bits. I share with neighbors because our moles moved to their backyards😂 You may also want to use raised beds for veggies. I have much better results with them. It was also interesting seeing the different types of fences.

In England we have allotments, plot's of land people can rent to grow vegetables on and keep chickens. You can build a shed, but you can't stay there. Some people have caravans on caravan park's for holiday's, some have barge's.

Yes. But from my knowledge those beautiful estates were inhabited by boyars. Also Stalin’s urbanization project transplanted millions of russians from rural life so i imagine its like, lets say, here in the united states idk could be wrong.

We have many rules. You can't just sleep in a tent in the woods. You would need permission from the owner of the wood. And only, when the area is not protected. ⛺ And no fire (there are few exceptions). And no long knife. 🤔 No pocket knife, that can be opened with one hand. Well, as I said...many rules. 😅 But they are there, mostly for good reasons. We are many people in a small country. Most parts of our nature are cultivated. So it is necessary to protect the remaining "wild" parts from overuse.

They have many small villages and most are the poorest of people. Moscow is a world of its own. The rest of the bigger towns in the east of Moscow certainly don’t look like that.
