SAW X, is the tenth in the Saw series. It's both a sequel to Saw (2004) and a prequel to Saw II (2005). Directed by Kevin Greutert and written by Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, it stars Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith. Set between the first two films, John Kramer seeks a cure in Mexico but uncovers a scam, leading him to use his deadly traps for retribution. or something. its best one in my opinion, and in todays video i explain why i think so silly lil guy what did you think this was all about even ??? Honestly, this movie is perfect when seen after saw 2. It becomes a better saw 3 then the real saw 3 (especially after the Amanda reveal in saw 2) I really want to see a movie where we see why Amanda went crazy and started making unwinnable traps. We really get to see why John chose her to succeed him in saw X

For me, the eye trap didn’t annoy me as much. It really feels like they are showing you how he crafts his ideas for his games. He uses the watch the guy stole, the device on his hand matches the guy in the hospital bed. I think it was one of the first good uses of this “fake out” that so many films try. It isn’t just for the trap, it gives us a welcome back to the twisted mind of jigsaw. Great video!

Plus every saw movie starts off with a trap, it’s tradition, and I liked that they tried a different approach to the first trap of the film by making it a look into John’s mind as opposed to another crime scene that will be tied back to some twist they reveal later.
@KTSpeedruns
@KTSpeedruns Жыл бұрын
I think the fake-out being a run-though of John's thought process fulfilled many purposes. 1) It worked as an engaging opening trap. 2) It introduces new Saw viewers to what Jigsaw does. 3) It gives us the satisfaction of seeing the kill while also letting the victim walk away. Editing wise, it was probably a training ground to figure out how to improve upon the Saw style of editing instead of just trying to mimic or copy it.

I don’t think any of the traps were truly unwinnable. The two that hard failed (Valentina and Mateo) hesitated long enough to fail. The timers were insane, which gave the illusion of them being impossible, but it lines up with previous victims that hesitated, which turned into panic, which turned into failures. I also believe that this was a growing point for Kramer, who started to give more generous timers.

@@jknifgijdfui I don't even know what you're trying to say here. If you're saying the timers should be shorter than they were, that would go against Jigsaw's principles, as they would become torture devices with no chance at escape. Jigsaw has been consistent with the philosophy of you escape the trap, you get patched up. He even said "Don't hesitate" to the whole group, so it would make sense if he timed it to be extremely close but not impossible, and the fact that both Mateo and Valentina came extremely close but bickering with Cecilia and hesitating to start screwed them only supports it.

On a note , Matteo's trap and Valentina's trap ARE NOT unwinnable. The truth is both of them wasted 1 and a half minutes talking and screaming to Cecilia. Both started acting on their traps when the clock read 1:30, so their traps were totally winnable and they did indeed pass... if only they didn't hesitate. Which is why John told them at the beginning "Do NOT hesitate". btw: great video 🙌

I feel it's more realistic to view John K as a psychopath who tries to justify his crimes to himself rather than a deep philosopher who takes it to the extreme. I think he gets off on it and will find and torture anyone he can get his hands on (justifying it for any reason he can think of to himself). This would explain the unfair traps, low time limits, and choice of victims quite well. He genuinely does believe in his "work" but is more interested in suffering than anything else; at least subconsciously. His "code" is something he doesn't even really feel he has to abide by.

Someone has to notice i think that this movie ended with jigsaw and amanda, with carlos, opening a door to see daylit sky. A total opposite of how saw 1 and 2 ended where both of them have to close doors, leave you in pitch black, and say game over. For me its a little detail that says a lot like the delivery of the story is definitely making them seem ironically as the protagonists, who went through traps also but survived, like you get to empathize with them with that hope jigsaw was talking about. It also means to me as a beginning of a new saw chapter and franchises which im excited about! And i think from that scene, with carlos on the center, and jigsaw and amanda opening the doors also for him, thats like saying carlos can probably be the one to continue their legacy. I must be overthinking tho but me like it so much ha! 😆 I also like the fact that finally a character in the movie said directly to john that he is being morally hypocritical. I think the writers are listening to other viewers about how they see john as hypocrite. And also, even if you watch this first before saw 2, the delivery of the twist that amanda is an accomplice is still effective. Not as effective as saw 2 tho.

Cool review! Really enjoyed this one as well. Agree completely with you on the Bloodboarding trap. The acting in that scene elevated it a lot. I think there was a little bit of blood when the mask closed on Mateo. Towards the bottom part of the mask, then again could be the blood from his brain making it's way down. I actually liked that they didn't show really that much when it closed, because in my opinion sometimes what you don't see is far worse than what you actually see. As for the gas room trap, I like how it's like a metaphor for cancer. Cecelia thought by offing Parker she would get to walk out of there alive. Obviously a false assumption. She and Parker screwed themselves by choosing money over human decency. Now Cecelia is trapped in that room with only 2 options, prolong her inevitable death by keeping her head outside the window, or she can simply succumb to the dangerous chemicals. She swindled cancer patients and gave them false hope, now she's literally in a predicament with no hope for her, and the irony is she is fully aware of it.

I think there was a reason behind the 'unwinnable' 3 minute timer on the traps - on the phone with Cecelia, she said she had an opening in 3 months. John said he didn't have three months. To him, 3 months (or 3 minutes) was a generous amount of time to have to deal with the panic and pain and horror of imminent death.

*SPOILERS FOR SAW II-SAW VI* I like to think seeing Gabriella die and Carlos getting roped into this situation were the reasons why Amanda protected Daniel in SawII. After seeing one life no different than her own being snuffed out by Cecilia, and Carlos obviously having done nothing wrong, Amanda might’ve been trying to make right for being unable to save Gabriella…that being why she left Daniel somewhere “safe”, and aided him during 2’s game. And also why she gave a warning to Jeff’s kid to “don’t trust the one who saves you,” that being her warning about Hoffman staging her rescue at the beginning of SawV. She knew because of Hoffman blackmailing with an ultimatum that she might not make it out alive of 3, so she left a warning for the kid as insurance. In spite of how disturbed Amanda was to go through assisting Kramer with this stuff, there was that shed of humanity still in her to protect the kids who got involved. My heart breaks for her.

Sometimes I wish this was a direct sequel to SAW. Also I love the Eye Vacuum trap being a fake out cause it gave me a chance to see what happens to it without the person obviously losing in real time. If they do make Saw 11, I hope they do explain why both Amanda & Hoffman went their own paths as Jigsaw. I think it’ll be really interesting seeing both not believing john’s way but rather killing them or sacrificing someone to get the point across.

I've been watching the Saw traps online since I was about 7 or 8 (I have a morbid fascination with body horror whatevs) but I've never been too interested in the actual plot because it's just so convoluted but I'm really glad Saw 10 ties some stuff together. Especially with the better character writing, my god were the other movies lacking in that department. Great vid!

The plot is great even if it gets complicated. The twists are just as much part of the franchise as the traps. It’s kinda soap opera-y but hey the gore and excitement kinda turns your brain to caveman mode so when you see it you’re blown away. It only gets convoluted when you start thinking about it later lmao

I personally feel like Valentina's trap was the most gnarly out of all of them in this movie, and all things considered, I wouldn't have picked her as the person who should have suffered the most. I think in particular for her game I also would have raised her timer to at least 4:00 minutes, because if you watch her closely, she stops and is in shock after she cuts off her leg. I think if you were being totally fair, you'd account for the fact that normally in that situation, people would go into shock and would need a minute to pull themselves out of it. Because she stopped everything and stared at her leg on the floor like she absolutely couldn't believe it, and it took Cecilia and Mateo and Gabriella yelling at her for her to realize her game wasn't over and she needed to suction out the marrow. If the human brain didn't naturally go into that kind of shock/stasis from such a traumatizing event, she likely would have dropped the gigli wire and grabbed the tube immediately. That said, John may have accounted for the shock anyway and actually given her enough time to process it, but she wasted it at the beginning when she didn't even start until her timer was half out. But there's no way to know that. Also, Cecilia being the main problem here, she should have had the trap that would cause the most suffering. She's the head honcho, the one who planned all this and cares for no one but herself and simply wants to get rich quick. Her trap would have just been the blood boarding trap, and simply drowning and spitting out blood doesn't feel like enough suffering when you have Valentina cutting her own leg off and getting decapitated, and Mateo pulling out a chunk of his own brain while wide awake with no pain meds. Also also, when John, Amanda, and Carlos walk out at the end, you get a look back to Cecilia, and the room she's in with all the gas, and you see the gas shut off. So eventually she would have been able to go back in the room safely and breathe, which indicates to me she's going to show up again in another Saw movie. Especially being as evil as she is and killing Gabriella and making a small child like Carlos suffer, John won't ever forget that, and there's a huge window where he, Amanda, Lawrence, or Hoffman could kill her at some point in a trap much worse and much more deserved than what she got.

To me Saw 1 is to its franchise what The Fast and The Furious is to its franchise. Flawed movies to be sure, but they're also just quite different than what the franchise became known for. Saw 1 feels more like a classic serial killer horror mystery where the traps are a gimmick, but not the driving force of the film. The sequels keep the mystery, but are much more overtly a vehicle to deliver new and creative trap scenarios. If you took the main Saw 1 trap room out of the movie and put it into another movie it wouldn't even really be that recognizable as a specifically "Saw style" trap.

0:40 What makes you think so? It was explained in the end of Saw II how he and Amanda made all this work. 1:38 Tobin Bell ALWAYS wanted to get Jigsaw right. In every single movie. And in Jigsaw 2017 too. The reason why it was bad is exactly the writers. And the reason why X is good is mostly the writers. It always works this way. 3:12 It’s like the best thing about the franchise. It makes the story way more complex, the fact that everything that happened in previous film is actually not what it seemed to be. 8:58 3 months, not 3 weeks. 9:56 because he pulled the gunpowder out of the bullets. 13:38 John knew where to find Diego, because during their first ride he said “Tourists always ask me to show them that statue”. And John find him exactly near that statue. 14:09 when Diego wakes up in the trap, he’s telling John “I’ve already told you what you wanted to hear. I told you who you are looking for”, which of course means that he get all the information before the trap. 15:30 I don’t remember in which film, but they did explain where the money are coming from. 19:34 “Diego survived his trap” “The traps were unwinnable” Okay 21:23 This is not a twist at all. The first twist was when John find out he was scammed and the second one was the gas room. 22:17 She obviously realized that when she woke up in a trap. 22:46 IT LITERALLY WASN’T TREATED LIKE A TWIST. WHAT MAKES YOU THINK SO?? 26:33 They didn’t call 911, because they had 10 minutes. Why would she spend time waiting for connection, explaining where she is and what happened and then waiting for help to arrive? It’s obviously takes more than 10 minutes. 28:34 The thing John was drawing in the park is not a reverse bear trap. It looks more like the trap for driver who killed Jeff’s son in Saw III. Additionally I wanted to give you million reasons why “right now you’re feeling helpless” scene is the best in the whole franchise, but instead I decided to rewatch this masterpiece. I’m sure when you’ll rewatch all the films in 3-5 years, you will completely change your mind (as we all did). Anyway interesting review, haha

that is a lot, and i did rewatch the franchise in the beginning of the year ! so this is all coming from a place of love, the camp is a reason i love saw so much it's so in ur face and everything is mind-blowing but generally i feel like a lot of the those moments aren't really earned. like the twist of saw 1, ik it's bc he didn't want the cops to get him but being on the ground for that long without anyone noticing is a bit of a leap 🤷‍♀️ still iconic tho :) and in the regards of john as a character, he's always been well defined but without tobin he wouldn't be iconic. it is a fact that tobin would do his own rewrites for john so it's not that big of a stretch to believe a lot of the characterization for john came from tobin. i love the "right ur feeling helpless" scene is so good and i love the building of tension but man does it just jump the shark in a otherwise AMAZING saw movie. saw 6 is still my personal favorite but i feel like saw x is just a better general movie bc all of the character work that was scattered around 8 other movies was finally put into 1 with more likeable characters and a solid emotional core ! (still love saw 6 tho)

I mean the first film is a really strong indie proof of concept, but I agree this is the first time in the WHOLE franchise I actually buy Jon Kramer as the character they've been selling him as this whole time. I still don't buy the 'we're not killing anyone they're just not saving their own lives' shtick but I feel so much more on board with his choice of 'victims' this time. You basically want Jigsaw to win the whole time and that was smart. AS WELL AS you want some of the victims to live as well. So basically you want to see him run the game and you want to see the contestants win (some of them). Took 10 movies to get to it but they finally got the formula right lol. Having said that, the very last few shots didn't work for me, I could've done without the return of Shawnee Smith and Costas Mandylor, and the final 'game' was shaky cam nonsense that made me wonder what the hell was happening most of the time. I don't even know how the actual conclusion would play out TBH. Also wow a lot of English speaking expectations on that movie set in Mexico lol. Half the Mexican characters are communicating in English just for the sake of the English-speaking audience IMO. But the brunt of the film was easily the most agreeable of the series to me. This would make me say 'keep going'.

Someone once pointed out that 3 minutes could have also reference the time John himself had left prior to the fake operation. He had what, three months? So it makes sense he'd make it symbolic in that way. Of course they're having to rush against the clok, that's what he has to do. He was putting them in his shoes. Was it personal? Yeah, but I liked how unfair these traps felt with that time limit a lot more after I read that comment back on tumblr after I saw this movie.
