I don't understand people who tell the artstyle is as good as Ghibli. I see something beginnen Art Sudents could throw together. I find it pretty Ugg Lee sometimes,. I loke the Story and the worldbuilding. I percieve it less as Science Fiction but as Xenobiology.

It's a very good series, but I'm not so happy to say that it is "the ultimate sci-fi TV show". It overflows with creativity, and there is not much science fiction that explores the scientific-biological part; but at times the series becomes too fantastic (fantasy). Like the extremely accelerated generation of clones, the resurrection of a robot shattered and thrown off a cliff to be scattered by a river... thanks to insects, mollusks and moss that apparently share a inter-species hive mind and learned robotics/engineering until the point of being able to do what a human couldn't. Telepathic and telekinetic powers... It is not so hard science fiction, in certain aspects the Rick and Morty series could be "more science fiction", despite the moments in which it goes more towards the cartoon side, like that of a human made into a cucumber who can only with his mouth kill and manipulate the body of a cockroach to make an exoskeleton/prosthesis that is better than robotics. But in terms of science fiction, a much better work, in animation at least, is Ghost in the Shell even though it is a movie, not a TV series. There would also be the anime series Leyend of the Galactic Heroes on the side of Space Opera. And you can't not mention the movie Akira, although that also has the "magic of psychic powers" thing that for some reason is always seen as an essential component of every work of science fiction. There aren't many science fiction series, and even less hard science fiction.

100% agree with all of that. Glad to see that at leats a few people they know how to recognize what is science fiction and what is not. Unfortunately, most of the videos I have seen that talk about this series do not stop calling it "the great science fiction masterpiece of 2023." It's a good series but it's equivalent to calling Lord of the Rings the best detective drama ever written, it doesn't make sense. Does that mean The Lord of the Rings is bad? No, it's still good, it's just that apparently we need to learn to recognize which thing falls into which category.

@@heidud With how the level is today in general, it does not surprise me that if something appears and is good, it will make many people faint. I was really impressed by Scavengers Reign, but the thing about the robot druid Jesus... I was quite disappointed, my sugar dropped when I saw the beginning of episode 10, hahaha. Jjust kidding. There are other works that I didn't mention but that are also very good, such as the medium-length film Magnetic Rose... or leaving the animation field, Gattaca. Do you know that last one? Very interesting the ideas and the world it presents. And have you seen Leyend of the Galactic Heroes? Speaking of the movie Gattaca, I recently found an old TTRPG manual but super interesting in the ideas it raises for a science fiction world/civilization: the GURPS Uplift book (Inspired by a trilogy of science fiction books). I loved the color classification of citizens based on the number of disadvantages/advantages they have (genetic quality), interesting to think about the situations/interactions that can occur. And it is quite picturesque that there are genetically evolved dolphins! :D

So Dune is Fantasy then since it has some bullshit about spice making you see the potential future. Just cause it is "fantastic", does not make it fantasy. Remember SciFi stands for Science FICTION. The planet Vesta itself is very different from Earth so everything works differently. A quickly-made clone is not far fetched when the clone is not an exact copy. Plus, it serves one purpose which takes like a day as well, unlike a human body that lives 70 years or so. So a clone with simpler genetics will be finished at a faster rate. Levi coming back to life is more on the fungus that could be a hive mind that many organisms share. The whole planet itself could be an organism like how there are forests in real life that is actually just one tree but reaches miles of coverage. Even in Marvel, there are literal planet beings, yet it is still sci-fi. Last of Us has fungus hive mind zombies, it is still sci-fi. The "fantastical" aspect that you critique is just the show's beautiful soundtrack and masterful animation making you think it is magical. A powerful score can do that to you i guess. Plus, the only shows you mentioned are Legend of the Galactic Heroes which I still wouldn't consider it "more ultimate" considering they are "galactic heroes" but I don't recall any alien species at all. I'd say they are at the same level of being scifi if I'm gonna base it on one season. Give Scavengers Reign 3 more seasons and we can compare. There are still many factions of humans out there we haven't seen. And Rick and Morty? Wouldn't give a sitcom that much praise when it can do literally anything without much thought. Wouldn't call a show with dragon psychic orgies as an ultimate scifi show now would you?
